    Far out! That's a fast time to do one peak, let alone 2! I have many Mt Barney stories! My 1st Mt Barney trip, dad took me when I was 9yo. We went up and down S. Ridge but didn't climb E or W peak. As you would know there is a rock slab at an awkward angle part way up. It freaked me out, and with a lot of encouragement from dad, I got 3/4 of the way up before wedging myself into the crack. I called out "DAD, CALL A HELICOPTER". eventually we made it to the Hut Site, which was already taken, so we set up camp across the creek amongst the tree ferns. There was a massive storm that night and our little camp in the sky was inside the storm. Dad spent the night freaking out about the possibility that his truck could be sliding down the slippery slope from where we parked it on Yellow Pinch. When my daughter was 2 or 3, while driving to a camp site, I told her this storey. When I got to the "Dad, call a Helicopter" bit, she burst out in uncontrollable laughing, and it was a running joke for the rest of the vtrip. She has just turned 10 and I keep telling her that will take her to the "Dad, Call a helicopter" spot, but I haven't done it yet. I've done Logan's twice in my late teens/ eairly 20s but I don't think I'd do it again. Too scary and unfit. Great video!

    Just attempted this today with my friend, we left left the car park too late for first timers around 10am and we went the same route as you guys, there was only 3 cars in the car park at the time. Didn't have proper gear i was just wearing skater shoes and they pretty much fell apart, rubbers soles fell off i was just walking on the remaining cloth fabric at the point. We reached at about 600 - 700m altitude we came across more experienced locals that cautioned us that we should need to reach the peak by 2pm bare minimum if we want to do the loop. We thanked them for their advice and went a little further before made a judgment call we reached about 800m no altitude devices just guessing cause we were above the clouds at the point. We were pretty committed and had we not came across those people coming down from our direction which from i gather is rare as people usually come back down via pheasants is the recommended way. On our way down we nearly got lost just before the 2 red triable marker and were going a wrong way, we realised it didnt look familiar and made our way back up and thought we were on a wrong side and were about to go a totally wrong direction again but lucky one of us turned around and saw the red triable marker. Got back to the carpark around 6pm our car was the last one there. I'm glad we decided to head back to 'try tomorrow' not literally tommorow but the meaning of the messashe is whats the hurry this mountain aint going anywhere try another day.

    Other countries think that Australia hasn’t got real mountains but they are wrong . They are not as big as other parts of the world but the Aussie mountains can be hard to climb such as Federation Peak in Tasmania . Fantastic video and great hike thank you .

    Love love this vid! Your father son relationship and skillI is inspiring! I tried Barney earlier on in my hiking career with a group … way before I should have … also had a near death 💀 experience The poor guy behind me saved my life. I’m forever indebted to his right hand, fear of me falling on him and his strength! Went up south east ridge and down peasants 😁😁 took us sooooo long…. Won’t even tell you as it’s embarrassing 😂

    When I saw the thumbnail, I thought that JELBuilder is retiring. "Time to hand the frillneck hat to the next generation." I thought. Glad that I'm wrong again. 13:29 Jacob has a much higher reach than us, which gives him the advantage over us for climbing. I'm very sure that he found a good hand hold that neither of us can reach. My "T-rex" arms are good for caving, not climbing from what I found out in the past hikes.

    Hey John, Go Team Jel, Great Vid Mate, you really smashed that, I walked that 30 years ago and it took me the entire day and we didn't do the long trail (not sure if they had names back then), Logan was a very different guy, a poster child for Cognitive dissidence, Psychotic illnesses and probably schizophrenia, but he did some great stuff as well,. I like the ye olde film effect. T-Rocks

    Yes, I've read some of his history... Despite his admirable exploratory nature, he actually was a brutal, masochistic leader who enjoyed seeing his prisoners suffer and even be tortured. I obviously didn't go into that but he ended up reaping what he sowed at his violent and brutal death.

    I walked up Logan’s when I was in grade 6 and many times since then, it’s not that difficult. I’d say it’s one of the best routes in South East QLD, views all the way up. Getting down Logan’s is definitely more difficult though. Of all the routes to take, Peasant’s ridge is the easiest but man it just sucks.

    The drone you heard was probably “bush sights” channel he just put out one at the same time. Man Logan’s ridge eh? I’m definitely gonna do that one day it looks so epic dude. Rum jungle! Man when we camped there the night, other campers didn’t bury their shits or go far to shit so the campsite stunk soooo bad the whole time we were there 😂 more like bum jungle. Damn you guys made good time to cover that route well done.

    Def a fun line to climb.... He loves his TX4s. He was referring to canyoning at Sassafras in NSW, multitudes of gorges and waterfalls to abseil down, he had a blast.

    I use the Garmin Fenix 5X in all my videos. They are an exceptionally great and rugged watch for all things outdoors. I've had mine for 3 years now and have thrown it into every adventure, and it works amazingly. It's not touch screen however, for that you need to go the Fenix 7 series but they are quite expensive at the moment as they are fairly new.

    Mt. Barney vs Mt. Bartle Frere?

  • @jelbuilderfilms

    @jelbuilderfilms

    10 ай бұрын

    Mt Bartley Frere is QLDs highest. I haven't done it yet, hopefully I'll go there in January to give it a go (will be a tropical hellish humidity heat unfortunately), but my research seems to indicate its not necessarily treacherous, as opposed to simply being a very long trek. We'll see and then I'll put a video together on it.
