    Cyborg and Katana are cheap this year but they really put the weakest displays they could find there. RTXes below 4080 disappoint too. Part of the Titan`s price is the MiniLed panel and mechanical keyboard. I decided to focus on performance and spare myself bells and whistles for now so I ordered a 4090 TongFang. Was really happy with GizmoSlipTech tests and comparisons recently.

    Nice very detailed review... I was many here for the review on this laptop because of the panel... and I noticed you made 1 distinction many other reviewers failed to do... In that.. enabling HDR in windows lets you get much brighter screen than just running it stock in SDR.. This explains why I've seen some review websites out there say this screen can only do about 550-630 nits while others say it can do the full 1000 nits... Since there weren't any HDR laptops before it was a non issue in the past but making the distinction between HDR vs SDR peak brightness will only become more and more important going forward.... Flipping between SDR and HDR on my laptop I can see a higher brightness than in SDR mode.. though not sure exactly how much... Windows really needs to step up their HDR game...

    Appreciate the shout/link re the XMP guide, cheers. Not sure how different/better the 13th gen cooling layout will be as suitability for a desktop replacement, I used the 12900HX & 12700HX GT77's as desktop replacements for several months and for the most part they were phenomenal, but I've had to go back to a desktop due to the units shutting down under moderate to heavy load. I was getting 62C surface temps at shutdown working in UE5 with some video encoding going on at the same time, not an unreasonable workload for a desktop replacement but they packed in and shut down.

  • @greebj

    @greebj

    Жыл бұрын

    wow that is a spectacular level of fail, thermal shutdown. Even if theyre sitting on a bedspread they should downclock before that becomes necessary. 62C case temp is burning hot. Literally burning. $8k, $9k pricetag, not really reflective of the quality of the unit. And if that heat ends up causing a failure on the motherboard i wonder how many thousands it'd cost out of warranty, considering the HX and 4090 GPU are all soldered ......

    @@greebj I can 100% vouch for the burning hot summary. As it was being used as a desktop replacement, it was used perpetually with the lid closed and an external monitor so that likely contributes to the heat build up around the keyboard above where the GPU is, the natural ventilation of air up and out the keyboard was sealed off but still it shouldn't shut down like that.

    @@vmafarah9473 Negative, tbh the ship has sailed on the 12th gen units as they're last gen now, and this only happened earlier this week. I've been using the GT77 since April last year before they were even seeded as I did the HX launch at Intel Vision in Texas, been using a Titan since then and it's been supreme for the majority of the time. Given this only happened earlier in the week, I'm still trying to internally process whether or not what I do is beyond the scope of what any laptop should be asked to do. Yes there's desktop replacements but is that actually an accurate definition. I'm still working on my thoughts/opinions on that before responding. I might see if I can reproduce what happened for a content piece though.

  • @vikpar
    @vikpar Жыл бұрын

    Well I think I have found the solution and apparently it is an error in the MSI BIOS, for some reason in the advanced options the memory speed is set to 2000 by default which is equivalent to 2000mhz or 4000mhz in dual channel, many people claimed that the required speed should be set manually... In the tutorials that I found on youtube and forums it said to set 2400 to obtain a speed of 4800mhz or 2800 for the speed of 5600mhz but you must do the complete opposite, you must go step by step (not all at the same time since there come the delays and long waits and problems)... Restart with each activation. We start: You enter the BIOS then press the keys (R-CTRL+R-SHIFT+L-ALT+F2) to activate the advanced bios (you must do this every time you enter the BIOS) (each reboot takes a while and you only have to have patience), go to the path advanced>system agent (sa) configuration>memory configuration>memory. There you will find the memory profile, then change from (default SPD profile to custom profile) below find OCsafemode and deactivate it, reboot and enter the BIOS again to go to advanced and look for "overclocking performance menu" put the overclocking feature enabled, reboot again and at this point you will see that the reboot takes a little longer than usual but you must be patient and not panic as it takes a few minutes... Once it starts, enter the BIOS again and go to the advanced path> system agent (sa) configuration>memory configuration. You look for "frequency limit for mixed 2DPC DDR5" and the FOUR values that are in 2000 change them to number 0 since this value applies automatic speeds together with the latencies that your memory has. and this would be all... you restart again and it will take time but in the end you will get the maximum memory speeds offered by the manufacturer and you will not have problems. I think that the value of 2000 that comes by default is the real problem because it forces you to have that base speed, on the other hand the fact that the "Dynamic Memory Boost" cannot be activated at the moment also generates these inconveniences. I did it with a kingston DDR5 64gb (2x32) 5600mhz cl40 memory kit (I think they are the best on the market at the moment and even more with that latency) the change was considerable since the 3dmark time spy increased about 960 points without modifying values in the graphics card to get a score of 22430 points. If you're in the same boat changing these memories on this laptop and require additional help or have any questions, I'd be happy to help you resolve them. greetings !!

    @@krystiandomagala4929 maybe the maximum you get, touching various things in the bios will be 4000 in the best of cases, I have had quite a few discussions in the MSI forums, and I tell you that they themselves say that this laptop has a penalty just for having 4 slots of memory, this laptop doesn't even do well with 96gb modules, it's quite a long story but the conclusion was that it's better to buy a laptop with only 2 memory modules.

    Looking to my 10 years old msi GT 60. Back in the day the most powerful single gpu, the gtx 780m . Although i loved this computer, the initial gpu burned and nvidia gpu drivers stopped to be released in 2019. Witch is suspicious to me. Only 6 years of drivers update. This is a shame to me. Of course back in 2013 it "only" cost 1500€ but putted two ssds and rams to have a total of 3 ssds and 1 hdd. For a total of 1640go of space and 28 ddr3 ram. All that in a 15" form factor ! It was nuts and the price was about 2200€ in total. I replaced the gpu in 2020 for a new oem one and a new compatibility battery in 2021 for 150€ and it gives a second life to my laptopt. build quality is perfect, keyboard, screen lids, fan... , everything runs. The only and biggest drawback is the Nvidia drivers stopped in 2019. Witch start to cause me trouble in simple streaming official tv website and games who can't run. So here is your "futur proof" timeline story of 10 year of the top of line 2013 Msi GT laptop. Hope this GT titan gonna last at least 10 years with gpu drivers included regarding the price !

    Thank you for your review, Jarrod! I have a question - 4:26: I thought all Thunderbolt 4 ports MUST support DisplayPort Alternate Mode as it is an integral part of TB4's definition. I believe the statement made in the video could be erroneous since I'm pretty positive that if I connect e.g. an ASUS ZenScreen portable display - that requires only a USB-C to USB-C cable to for both power & video (DP over USB-C) - I'm sure it would work just fine.

    1:05 and this is an aspect that needs to be expanded upon. People don't know (like i was 1 year ago) about alternatives. A normal person thinks of a desktop systems, either imagines those ATX towers or the compact PCs without a GPU But there's the mITX performance builds. And cases of 10l or similar have the footprint of a 15inch laptop with a 15-20cm height. And under 10kg of weight. (compared to 4kg of the much larger footprint 17-18" gaming laptops) They can be easily taken into a backpack if you want gaming somewhere else. The large screen gaming laptops aren't laptops anymore. They are clunky, heavy and most importantly don't game very well when unplugged. There's no merit for a dedicated GPU laptop or a 17" screen if you need it on the move (like on a train, or plane). And this would lead to a great new series of videos. Comparing those portable 14"-15" laptops vs gaming laptops while unplugged. Simulating a vlogger/content creator/whatever that is on the move and might want to play some games. I'd love to see playing fps on a laptop that you hold on your lap as you lay comfortable on the beach seat, or on car rear seat. And the actual capabilities of the 17-18" gaming laptop unplugged.

    no laptop will give u that. Ur best option is 13.6inch asus laptop with 6900hx. It has an integrated gpu of 680m. If you limit cpu power consumption to 15W, you might be able to game on it for 3 hours but on low settings and resolution.

    I assume that such a low color gamut is due to HDR being turned on on the laptop. Without HDR, the color gamut at all levels is almost 100% according to Brandon's test at GizmoSlipTech. Jarrod can you please confirm if the test was done with HDR on?

    All testing in the video was done with HDR off unless specified (eg screen brightness). The color gamut is hardly any different with it on. I didn't bother including the results with it on due to limited screen space and because it's not really that much different and not even always better: HDR off (as reported in video): 95.1% sRGB 75.2% AdobeRGB 87.1% DCI-P3 HDR on: 97.5% sRGB 79.7% AdobeRGB 81.9% DCI-P3
