I had this GPU for a couple years and I loved it, mine didn't overclock well but it was still cool. Replaced it in 2014 with a gtx 970

got this card, overclocked it to 1200 mhz easily. load temps are only 60 degrees. this thing is a beast

Hey Linus/Other fans, can I ask why do GPU's have DVI/HDMI sockets into them? I'm building a cheap-ish multimedia/gaming rig and it's going to be my first ever build, but I never knew that the socket where you plug your cables into was your GPU o.O Great video once again ^.^

I was wondering if you guys have known how to resolve the issues regarding the black screen problems on 7870? just type in Black Screen Buzzing sound and Black Screen No Buzzing Sound on the search panel. I've talked with other 7870 users and some said that they are experiencing it too! it occurs on BF3 Multiplayer, Skyrim, League of Legends, World of Warcraft and Diablo 3.

I'd go with the Hawk, Gigabyte BIOS have been troubling overclockers recently, and I've heard lots of complaints about the new Windforce cooling which apparently keeps the GPU cool but heats up the rest of the PC. MSI stuff can take a real beating and I think it is the most creative brand, giving you better cooling solutions and the GPU voltage upgrade which I think is a great touch

So, my R7870 has some temps that I am a bit confused by. My idle temps are around 30c on the core. But around 40c on the RAM and VRM. Under load core temps max out around 65c but the RAM and VRM are always 10c higher. I have it OCed to 1150 on the core and 1300 on memory. At first I thought maybe it's the OC that's doing it but I placed it at stock speeds and the result is the same. Is this normal? I've had this card for almost 6 months.

Question: Im looking for something cheap for now, because by xmas Im buying a new machine, and this will become my second machine. So the Question is. Whats the difference in performane between this and the 7850, which u can pick up for under 200 inc tax right now... 169.99 after mail in rebate seems to me like the 7850 is an amazing steel at the moment. Is coughing up another 60-80 bucks for the 7870 worth it, over the 7850??

yeah that would be great for any game on mostly high settings i have a 6870 with a phenom 2 so similar performance and i run battlefield on high and get 60 fps

You have a good point, and it isn't so much that I hate AMD, its just that nVidia has the upper edge with technologies at this time. If your are looking for a value to high-end range of cards right now, I would recommend AMD. (I have to thank you for being a civilized person on youtube, not swearing and making stupid comments!)

I did go with the hawk. Unfortunately I can't get a stable OC over 1125mhz on the core. Even though most people can get it up to 1200mhz on the core and some people even getting it up to 1300mhz on the core. That being said I'm still happy with it.

The actual regular fan sound is probably about the same but it makes this buzzing sound at idle. I returned mine for that and managed to get a refund

Well I'm getting a 700w but because of the 12v Ampere it has 46A so keep on mind that you may have 500w but with atleast a 36A on the 12v rail to feed it correctly :D

I didn't post that comment expecting a bunch of people to come chop my head off. If people were smarter (I'm not calling you stupid), they would realize the depth to that statement :)... nVidia has the upper edge in technologies at this point which makes their cards more expensive. The two companies are all ways trading blows with price and performance and that statement is aimed towards this point in time.

Good card but you can get a factory OC'd 670 like the Gigabyte Windforce for around the same price, which will beat the 7870 at max OC on both cards and quieter.

Either or. The Hawk has mildly better cooling but I've seen both under full load and the difference isn't noticeable, especially not 10x better like the others said. Both will OC just fine. It does look better though.

Asus HD7870: I'm overclocked at 1230 core clock and 1355 memory clock. BF3 on Ultra (Vsync on = more smooth) Skyrim on Ultra Civilization 5 on max, Flight Sim X on max lol Love it.
