Rarely is there a need for CALCULATE. In fact, I think it's gotten to the point where what we really should be asking is can all of these DAX calculations done without CALCULATE even be done using CALCULATE. In other words, what does CALCULATE add to DAX code? Now, there are cases. But, the point is, there is soooo much that CALCULATE can't do, if you don't learn the No CALCULATE approach, you have a huge, gaping hole in your DAX skills.
