MSFS: Using the KLN 90B GPS / Black Square Duke / Microsoft Flight Simulator
Ойындар
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to use the KLN 90B GPS developed by falcon71. This GPS unit from the 1990s made its debut in the Beechcraft Duke by Black Square, and we can expect to see it added as a GPS option in more planes in the future.

An amazing feature I missed that falcon71 told me about is that while entering the waypoints on the FPL screen. you can simply press ENTER on your keyboard instead of exiting KYBD mode each time. No need to reach for the mouse. Just press ENTER after typing the waypoint, and ENTER a second time to confirm the waypoint information.

Thanks for the information. It’s nice to have the reminders about all the steps that make the flight simulator an enjoyable experience.
Super clear tutorial as always. I love how you can see the progression in tech from this through the 430 and 530. In the original manual for this unit they spend what seems to be a crazy amount of time explaining what a cursor is. Obvious now but probably not in 1992 or whenever this unit released.
A very well done video. Your tutorial explanations are very helpful when flying in the MSFS. Watching your video brought back memories of using the King avionic units in the airplanes that I flew in the my past piloting years. 👍🛩️
Thanks for doing the video, much appreciated.
Mega video, thank you for that one. Love the KLN90B.
Hello Kip, what a very interesting explanation of this KLN 90B GPS, I have never delved into it, but your explanation invites you to delve into it. Thank you for the explanation Kip.
Thanks Kip, an excellent video on the KLN 90B well done, and for the "Pressing The ENTER key" update.
love it! respect for pilots dealing with this type of GPS before the invention of modern display and inputs.
Finally someone is actually using an interesting and unique GPS :) This is a perfect tutorial video, thank you very much!
What a great and instructive video!
Well done, learned a lot, detailed but still easy to follow!
Great job Kip, no-one does these instructional videos better than you.....imo
Thank you, tremendous video!!
Excellent, Kip. Thank you.
So big thank you for the Tutorial :))) Regards from germany.
Well done mate ! Thx for sharing :)
Now this is retro gaming. Nice! :D
Does the VNAV calculate a direct to for the waypoint you choose or does it take your current route into consideration which would be more track miles? Saw this piece of unit as a highlight of the Duke release, didn't know it was coming to the Comanche before your video. Cant wait! 😻

VNAV is calculated directly to the waypoint you provide it. It does not take the rest of the route into consideration. Just had to test it to make sure :-)

Oh really? What about the GNS 530? Been using vnav on that a lot thinking it's smart enough to take the flight plan into consideration.@@KipOnTheGround
cool channel soooo subscribed
Yoo Kip what I have done I went and baught the The Piston Duke so thought why not try using this older navigation aid. I thought Loran was an old aid . Thank You for this lesson

Nice! The Dukes are so good and the KLN is really fun. It'll be awesome seeing the KLN in more planes soon (A2A said they'd be adding it to the Comanche). Nice change of pace from the modern stuff for sure
Sweet
Great tutorial! I was wondering what the right inner button's push-pull SCAN function is for? I could never figure it out.
Thank you very much!!, great tutorial, I learned a lot, easy to follow! Where I can find more info? Thanks.
Is it able to input approach and star
Exellent video; I have probaly done somthing wrong in the setting, when set for GPS the HDG light is always on even if the AP is ofF, and HDG light is also on when NAV is turn on and the autopilot do not follow the leg any advice?

NAV won't activate until you fly close enough to the active leg. Just use HDG to fly towards the course with NAV mode on (armed/standby). Once you're close enough, NAV will activate and follow the course as expected.
