As a non-affiliated Hispanic who grew up in LA, but spent my teenage years in the Bay Area, I saw both sides of this. I’m a huge Dodgers fan, but my wife thinks I’m always over-exaggerating when I tell her I can’t wear certain colors in certain places. I’ve seen and heard of too many mistaken identities due to colors. Sometimes people just don’t realize how eager some young up-and-comer is to put in work and wrong place wrong time happens way too often in these wars.

Good job. Really good job.
I'm from the Mission myself, born and raised. My oldere brother was the president of the Sir Lords, during the tail end of the Cholo era in the 70's and 80's. Mission street wasn't about red or blue. it was which gang you were from. 22 street hogs, Happy Holmes gang, SFM, Sir Lords and so much more. It was about what hood you were from. I miss the old days of the mission. The mission only started with red and blue after the movie colors.

@@leninestrada4628 exactly. For example, I growing up i stayed i never left the area between 16th street and 24th street and Mission. outside of that I would be a target from dfferent hoods in he mission. for a long time, i had no idea what was beyond 24th street or the lower numbers before 16th. My older brother was well known and his enemies would target me if they could. but yeah, Colors did create a whole lot of stuff and people who never claimed a color all of a sudden started claiming red or blue, even different ethnic groups did that after the movie.

So many gangs it’s crazy!!!
As a brown half black and half spaniard born in San Francisco I saw a lot of the ugliness from all of this. Even though I was not affiliated with any gangs or wanting any part of it, I was asked if I were ever affiliated with any sides and you just have to be honest. Because trust me even if you're just doing a job and someone thinks you're affiliated, they will have no problem shooting you or stabbing you, if you're not brutally honest with your opposing threat. It's crazy, the streets will never change. As a former crime scene cleaner, I saw a lot of death from both sides, it was unfortunate, so many young lives taken for no reason.
@alexw853

Stop saying black without being specific about lineage. If your black heritage is not United States freed slaves (Freedmen) then your black bloodline is FOREIGN and your whole family is foreigners, period. We are not a fucking monolith and the only legitimate black heritage presence is Freedmen since this is our Republic. If your black side of your family is ethnically Caribbean/West Indian islander or continental African like those tons of Eastern Africans I saw up in Los Angeles or your black lineage is ethnically Latin like Quilombos of Brazil, Garifuna of Nicaragua or Palenques of Colombia then your "half blackness" is NOT AMERICAN AND HAS NO CONSTITUTIONAL RELEVANCE HERE. I am getting tired of people talking about black or biracialness like all blackness or Mulatto heritage is the same. Mulattoes are in every black cultural heritage group, which ORGANIZED culture of black is your black relatives?? NATIVE UNITED STATES FREEDMEN (FOUNDATIONAL BLACK AMERICAN?) Jamaican? Haitian? Trinidadian? Bajan/Barbados? Panamanian?? I could go on and on. We have a VAST DIASPORA and NOT ALL BLACKNESS is the same. Same as how I wouldn't automatically let someone just tell me they are "Eurasian" or Oriental (their ethnicity only) without knowing what their CULTURE is (Chinese, Taiwanese, etc). And Spaniards are WHITE so racially speaking you are still HALF WHITE.
@alexw853
Жыл бұрын
Some Hispanic dude pulled a knife out on me once because I said I wouldn't date him. I was in a Mexican neighborhood (notice how I mentioned which culture he is since not all Spanish speakers are the same cultural heritage) to visit someone and drop off some stuff for her and he saw me and approached me. Other people had to chase him off. And he knew I was too young for him and on top of that I'm Black American and he knew he had no business talking to any culture of black girls.. but apparently my big ass and my long natural hair makes me stand out from most other "negras" since I take very good care of my hair and it grows fast.. apparently my appearance and baby face is a magnet for perverts.

I'm from Arizona where the Fentanyl problem is getting worse and the gangs are getting worse in the west valley.. out there if you are in a bad area they (along with the homeless Caucasian issue) will run up on you and harass you if they think you look like you have a good job and are too confident. Stupid stuff but it happened to me multiple times. You don't have to be gang affiliated to attract troublemakers. There's always shit starters around no matter WHERE YOU GO.

@@pedroramos4309 I feel you homie. I have seen things and been through things in the mission that I will never even tell my wife. Hard times man. You know what? You're here right now and you made it. God bless brother. I had to move away from San Francisco otherwise the mission was going to consume me.

The Norte vs. Border Brother beef in my town (Oakland) brought a lot of blood and tears but at least we weren’t right next to each other like the homies in the Mission. Oakland homies had to drive many blocks to look for each other. In the mission, you could walk a block and end up in enemy turf. I’m glad gang banging ain’t what it used to be because I’m sure we can all agree we don’t want our kids getting hurt or killed over a conflict that very few can even accurately explain the origins of.

As someone who grew up on 17 and mission and left that life behind, there’s no place like the mission. Still traumatized till this day. Real war. Changed my life after I learned about Jesus and I pray no kid goes that route. Biggest lie and deception kids of color are told

@@MarioSanders-rm8yr There were BBs in SF? It was my understanding they never really established as a street gang outside of Oakland. At least as far as the Bay Area is concerned.

21st and 22nd use to be banging because both Norte and Sur cross those streets and it was on. 16th and mission to 20th and mission was Sur. 23 to 30th to the Excelsior E Mob was Norte. In the Excelsior it was mostly Norte too but E mob rulled that part. South SF was Norte but mostly Sur too.
