I would love to add for consideration The Fisher King Directed by Terry Gilliam to that list. People for some reason forget about Mr. Williams performance even though it was up for numerous academy awards and he was nominated for best actor. It’s seriously amazing, it is easily in his top best acted roles.

I will say this on EVERY “Mrs. Doubtfire” reaction video. I LOVE that the “Stepdad” Stu was not portrayed to be a bad guy. He is a good man and loves Miranda and the kids! One of the few movies in history that doesn’t make the stepdad out to be the automatic bad guy. Not only that, but the film focuses on DANIEL’S flaws, and how he has to learn to improve himself. And I also love that it doesn’t end with him and Miranda getting back together. It’s real life.

To be honest, Daniel's actions are far worst than Stu. So making Stu a villain would kind of feel like Daniel never needed to change and him and Miranda must be together.

Pierce Brosnan (the suitor) has said that the greatest challenge of his acting career was making it through that one-on-one scene in the restaurant with Robin with a straight face.

Yes Sam. Everyone expects Robin Williams comedy genius, but what he really hits you in the head. Is with his heartbreaking dramatic delivery and cadence. He was such a giant, GIANT, GIANT talent. He will be surely missed.

Awakenings, and Fisher King are some of my favorite movies he did. While I didn't enjoy Insomnia, or The Night Listener Robin could also do a pretty terrifying psychopath.

I really like Jim Carrey in dramatic roles, too.

As a child of a bitter and violent divorce… that final line always hits me. “If there’s love dear… those are the ties that bind… All my love to you poppet… you’re going to be all right” it saddened me that a film character had to say that to me and no one in my actual life did… but it still worked.

When she says that the kids miss Mrs. Doubtfire, she means that they miss all the things Daniel was willing to do in character that he was unwilling to do as himself. He refused to hold onto a job, he refused to discipline his kids (which was especially to his son's detriment considering his grades), and he refused to work with Miranda on anything. Even when he says they should go to therapy, he completely refuses to take any responsibility for his fuckups, and shifts the blame onto her. And honestly, the more you think about it, the more fucked up thing is that Daniel would and could do all those things but simply didn't until he was in character. It's easy to sympathize with Daniel because Robin Williams is so charming, but honestly, the more you watch, the harder it is to blame Miranda for despising him. He seems to go out of his way to turn the kids against her. I mean, obviously she has her own faults, but I think they do a great job of presenting it as a two-way street.

Yeah, we followed the development of them both, but Robin's character in particular. His talks with Miranda as Doubtfire made him realise that the divorce hadn't come out of the blue. When she had tried confronting him with the hardships she was having, he would find ways to joke about it without addressing her concerns or frustrations and she had been trying to stick it out for a long time. Like when she told him she cried herself to sleep sometimes. He understood more and more why things went so wrong and grew as a character as a result. None of this registered with me when I watched it as a kid, I had to re-watch it as an adult.

Yeah. Who know what would have happened if Daniel had been willing to shoulder his part of the non-fun responsibilities as an adult sooner.

At one point the studio executives suggested the parents should get back together at the end of the film. Both Robin Williams & Sally Field pushed back, saying it would be a bad message for the actual children of divorced parents in the audience.

yeah, relationships sometimes fail and it's important to highlight that you can still have a "happy ending" even if these tragic or possibly traumatic events happen (for the child). Divorce may be sad and hard but sometimes it's the better solution.

The amazing thing about this film is it was the first family movie that tackled divorce and didn't have the parents get back together. It showed divorce in a more honest way and that kids can be okay after one.

I'm going to Jewsplain this incredibly terrifying joke - "I should never buy gribenes from a mohel, it's so chewy" - gribenes is chicken cracklins and a mohel is the guy who performs a bris (circumcision) and so the implication here is that the gribenes is actually foreskin.

The thing about this movie is, the older I get, the more I understand Miranda's point of view. When they first divorced she was genuinely being crappy when she didn't go for shared custody, and was depriving him of even what little time he did have with them. But by the end, I totally get the judge's decision. I mean, look at it from her perspective. You get a divorce and then find out that your ex husband has been dressing in drag in order to deceive you, gain unauthorized access to your home and children, not to mention intentionally sabotaging your relationships, physically attacking and then nearly killing your new boyfriend and essentially spying on you from inside your own home. No matter how charming we find him, he just stomps over her boundaries like they're nothing and then makes her out to be the bitch for not putting up with it. She's made out to be the villain in this story, but when we step back from seeing the story through Daniel's eyes, he's far more of a villain than she is. Sure, she acted selfishly at times, but it was the usual getting divorced drama and all the hurt and pettiness that comes with it. But outside of a movie world, he would be in jail for what he did to her. The thing that really kills me, though, is he is just bending over backwards to accommodate her as Mrs. Doubtfire in order to get and keep the job. And while no divorce or break-up is entirely one sided, I can't help but think that if he had been willing to put in even half that amount of effort when they were married, she probably would have been more willing to work through things and they may not have gotten divorced in the first place.

But I'm probably more of a Daniel, but my mom is a Miranda, and as I've gotten older and we've gotten closer I've started to see all the ways that me and my dad have added to her burdens (and then made her feel like the bad person for complaining, because we were the "fun," chill ones). I absolutely agree that she was being selfish and petty in the beginning, especially when she wouldn't even let him have all of his limited time with the kids because she had a busy schedule. That's terrible. In what other ways did you see her being in the wrong?

Do you actually think this represents a common, or even rare real life outcome for divorce? The more common outcome is exactly the same in the beginning with a vengeful mother depriving the father of access and the father becoming increasingly depressed and bending further and further backwards to accommodate the mother just to gain access to his children for the little time she allows. This film is a microcosm of what every father in these situations would love to do and dares not. Why? Because the courts favor mothers from the outset. You may have come to understand Miranda's point of view with age, but you don't understand at all about Daniel's point of view and never can for the obvious reason that you will never be in that situation because: Chaching! The courts will favor you.

When you're overworked, undervalued, and underappreciated by your own husband (he caused a shit ton of damage throwing a birthday party he INTENTIONALLY left his wife out of), that's when it's fucking enough and you ditch the child you married to focus on the actual ones.

Goodwill Hunting and The Birdcage, more Robin Williams Greatness.

Tbh, I don't blame the judge's decision. The whole thing makes the father seems unstable, even though his intentions were nice. But it's hard to be against Daniel cuz we see most of the movie from his side. Plus Robin William's acting is great lol.

For more Robin Williams and drag, you absolutely HAVE to watch The Birdcage. He plays opposite Nathan Lane, who plays his partner and the head queen of their drag bar. It’s an LGBTQ+ classic, based off an older French film. One of his best roles, and that’s saying something. lol

Robin Williams acted in dozens of movies and television shows, beginning with "Mork and Mindy". He's never had a bad performance, either as a comedian or as a serious actor. My personal favorite is "What Dreams May Come". Robin's perhaps the most underrated actor of all-time. R.I.P.

There's definitely a reason Robin Williams is so loved and so missed. He was a treasure and its painful to know that all the joy that he brought us for so many years yet he never kept any of that joy for himself. Hook is my favorite of his movies. I also really enjoyed Patch Adams.

He didn't kill himself from depression. He had Lewy Bodies Dementia and went out before it started to destroy him. Think "Parkinson's meets Alzheimer's," with some paralysis mixed in.

For a good Robin Williams movie, I really love "Good Morning, Vietnam!" from 1987. It has both comedy and drama. "Hook" from 1991 is also great.

Robin Williams range is unparalleled. He was actually the first Tom Hank's. He could do both amazing comedy and drama at an extremely high level. But so much talent comes with a price. He will be missed.

Uhhh, I'm not sure how you managed to even put Tom Hanks and Robin Williams in the same wheelhouse there. Tom Hanks has played somewhat comedic characters, but only because they were written that way - he's not a comedian doing drama acting, he's a drama actor doing somewhat comedic acting roles, and they are usually more incidental than purposeful. Like with Forrest not realising that the way he acts/talks in ignorance can be funny, or his character Viktor in The Terminal with the whole 'lost in translation' vibe being funny before he learns English. A better way to put it is that Tom Hanks's characters offer more situational comedy rather than intentional comedy. Robin WIlliams on the other hand was first and foremost comedian through and through, he just happened to be astonishingly great dramatic actor too.

robin williams' talent had nothing to do with his death. he had lewy body dementia, it is only diagnosable after death at this point in medical history. it was not mental illness that contributed to his death. there is a documentary about it that his wife, neighbors and close friends had much to do with, as well as specialists who investigated the cause of his passing and the progression of the disease, it charts his final days and his decline in health and traces it back to when it first began presenting and was both concealed by robin and misdiagnosed by doctors. it's hard to watch in some ways. but it's what really happened. it's called 'Robin's Wish'

Fun fact the scene where Daniel knocked over his mask and it goes flying out into the street required over 50 takes to get it right then after that a hilarious unscripted moment happened where a large piece of icing fell into the social workers tea because the temperatures on set were very hot and caused Robbins face mask to melt but as always he didn't miss a beat and made jokes about it while staying in character

Robin Williams is one of the funniest people ever to have lived. Period. I love his movies. Comedic and otherwise (he deserved more credit than he got for his dramatic work). His stand-up too. He was also just a really great person. Of all the creative individuals whose work has impacted me over the course of my life and who are no longer with us, his death still hurts the most. I genuinely miss him. Do yourself a favor and watch more of his work. Reaction video or not. He's amazing. There will never be anyone else like him.

Mrs. Doubtfire was released the year after Aladdin was released. I love Robin Williams in Aladdin, but Mrs. Doubtfire is another level of performance from him.

God bless Robin Williams. This movie is just a gem. One of my all time favourites.

His main flaws where he couldn't keep a job, hard for many struggling actors much less voice actors with morals. And he didn't try to take anything seriously basically it was like being married to a teenager at all times. In the beginning something like that would be fun. There fun attitude runs off on you puts you in a good mood makes you smile or laugh. But eventually it's time to get serious, some times you cant just laugh your problems away, so if its time to be serious and hes not doing it, then she gets frustrated, and when it happens again and again the frustration builds, having that old bag snitch living next door constantly calling her while at work pulling her out of important meetings naling her look bad in front of important clients and other important people in her field of work or simply the other partners of the company. Everyone talking behind her back about how such a beautiful respectable woman would be married to such a child. It all adds up so even if he's a great guy, he's not the kind of guy for someone like her.

He takes seriously the things that really matter to him, like his children. The problem is not that he is not as mature as she is, it is that they are very different. Daniel likes to be the funny father because he knows that makes his children happy. Miranda wanted a man who saw things her way and shared her opinions, Daniel was not that person, but they both love their children. Considering that, there was no reason for her to give him the penance of not letting him see them until he had a job and a stable home. He is not violent, he is not an alcoholic, and he treats children very well, he knows how to take care of them and at the very least, his priority is to spend as much time with them as possible.

@@Threeleebird That's not her choice. The moment you take an issue like this to court, you cede partial control to the state. A stable home and income are standard requirements for guardianship in most states already, even if you're their mom or dad. By disobeying the conditions of the court, he prompted a more serious response. If Daniel wanted things to go differently, he should've tried working with Miranda instead of stonewalling.

It feels crazy to me to see somebody who didn’t grow up with Robin Williams and watching movies over and over. But in a way I do envy that as an adult you get to see these movies and understand what’s going on. As a child I just felt bad for him. Which you should, but also realizing how messed up it is for him to dress up and still go into a home he himself isn’t welcome. But this movie makes you realize it isn’t for nefarious reasons. He just hasn’t ever been away from his children. And for a kid having parents separate in front of you and you’re not really understanding why this movie is a good wait to see that your parents can be happy even if they’re not together. It’s beautiful.

Man, I miss him. He's one of the few celebrity deaths that really affected me. He was a wonderful, caring man in real life, on top of his magnificent performances

For more comedy movies I can highly recommend "Airplane!" (1980), "Top Secret!" (1984) and "The Naked Gun" (1988)! You will not be disappointed!

"Tootsie" - with Dustin Hoffman - a similar movie, more grown up but still very funny. "Birdcage" - Robin Williams' best comedy!

Glad to see i am not the only one championing Tootsie.. been pushing on it for several reactors now. Seems like they all just watch what the other ones do most of the time.

I understand Miranda's personal need to divorce Daniel. However I don't understand why she didn't want to share custody of the kids. Daniel may have been a bad husband but he wasn't a bad father. I will speak in Miranda's defense here. It seems like this was building up for a while. And I don't think it's so much that she didn't want to share custody as that the court awarded her custody because Daniel didn't have a stable home or a steady job. It wasn't that she was actively trying to keep the kids from him. She was certainly being inconsiderate of their time together, but I don't think she was actively trying to keep them from him at first.

This is absolutely one of my favorite Robin Williams movies. I practically grew up with this movie. There is still a lot I haven’t seen yet. But I’ve seen Aladdin, One Hour Photo, Jack, Jumanji, Night at The Museum movies, Flubber, RV, Happy Feet 1 and 2, A Merry Friggin’ Christmas, Boulevard, and License to Wed. I love Robin Williams. I always have. ❤️ Robin was the best. 7 years later since his death and he is still very well missed. 🥺🤧

My favorite actor, and one of my favorite people. You can just tell the guy was a genuinely nice person. It's so sad we lost him still so young.

One of my top 5 movies of all time. The perfect role for him and he plays it perfectly, Robin Williams at his best.

Your amusement over him getting her money made me laugh so hard.

🤣🤣🤣 GET THAT BAG, DANNY BOY

Just realized that Robin's character started out with a job he didn't want to do because it was immoral for kids, and he ended up in a role that was the opposite where he could teach kids good things. I guess he always wanted to be a children's entertainer. The bit with the dinosaur lines confirms this.

One of Robin's most heartwarming. For something a little sillier, but still with a lot of heart, check out Jack. And for his oddest, Toys. RIP to a legend. Look out for the mental health of your family and friends, y'all. Sally Field is always incredible and beautiful. Check her out in Smokey And The Bandit, with Burt Reynolds. And Pierce Brosnan, 90's/00's Bond himself! Goldeneye is a great Bond film worth a watch, even if you haven't seen any others.

Absolutely. And while I agree with u & support anyone with mental illness…that’s not exactly what happened with Robin? He knew something wasn’t right & sought help for dementia-like symptoms, which was causing his anxiety & depression. They were pretty sure he had Alzheimer’s (turns out at his autopsy, it was Lewy body, which is similar to Alzheimer’s) so that’s why he ended his life. I guess that’s still a mental illness, but it’s a little different? He was depressed bc of Lewy body & it taking his identity. Regardless, so so so sad. We lost a talent like no other to a scary freaking disease.

Toys was odd like Munch's surrealism was odd 😅

How many of you watched this as a kid and saw Miranda as the villain but when you grew up, you then understood both sides of what Daniel and Miranda are going through?

3:54- she's actually being very careful. If some bunny tried to eat my mom's flowers, it would learn how to fly from a kick start. For some people flowers are just as much of a pets as cats and dogs are and are valued as much.

This movie has a special place in my heart. My parents got divorced when I was 6 and it was kind of a weird time. I had a lot of talks with my parents about what was happening. And then my mom showed me this movie to kinda talk about it and show how even though there is love within the family. Two parents might just not be good for each other but it doesn’t impact how much they love their kids. I just recently found your channel and I love it. Glad you enjoyed the movie.

I protested watching this for a long time. Then one day with nothing to do, I watched it. Great satisfaction.

Heart wrenching watching Robin Williams these days. He made the world smile but in private, suffered a tormenting pain nobody saw. I loved him in Awakenings with Robert Dinero and Julie Kavner.

This movie is the best example of "just toss out the script and let Robin Williams do his thing." I don't know if that's the case for sure, but it has the feel of Williams's lines being half-improvised and it's so good. They struck the right balance between comedic and heartfelt here. Unfortunately, some of the other Robin Williams movies of the mid-to-late 90s veered too heavily into the schmaltzy category.

RIP, Robin Williams. You'll always be Mrs. Doubtfire.

Mr. Kraft from Sabrina never gets enough appreciation haha

I never understood this when I was younger.. But what I've found I really truly enjoy about this film. There is no just real evil mustache twirling bad guy. You can see all sides. And even the new guy dating isn't some sleazy I hate kids guy. At the end of the day? Stu even isn't a bad guy.

This movie is a rare example of a film with perfectly balanced characters and nobody is the outright villain. Daniel had a big heart and loved his children, but he needed to grow up and act more responsibly, and Miranda wasn't portrayed like a megabitch like most other movies would have and you can understand her frustration, she's just trying to be responsible as well as loving, even if her actions were quite extreme. Even Stu, he never does anything particularly wrong or evil, yet you love to hate him, purely because you're rooting for Daniel. A movie that can make you laugh out loud, cry and broach gritty subject matter like divorce in a matter-of-fact way for children is impressive.

You should watch one of Robin Williams' best movies, Good Morning Vietnam, based on the real life American Soldier. Funny and moving.

The Birdcage!

The little girl is fantastic as Matilda! Another great kids movie.

Hey Same. I cry every time the judge hands out the sentence. Also when he explains divorce to kids it up there as top level writing. I have that up there with the Sesame Street explanation of Mr. Hooper's death. Explaining life to a child is so hard and gut wrenching. This movie does a master job of it.

Man of the Year w/ Christopher Walken, Laura Linney and Lewis Black is a great Robin Williams movie that doesn't get enough attention, as is Bicentennial Man with Sam Neil and Oliver Platt. World's Greatest Dad, written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait is dark, strange, funny and sad all at the same time..

Another great Robin Williams movie is Good Morning Vietnam. It’s the first movie for which he was ever nominated for an Oscar, and an early look in movies of how versatile he was at acting comedy and drama.

A lot of people don't know but if Robin Williams had never took his life, they were very close to letting him know he was gonna be a Mrs. Doubtfire again for a sequel.

This was the first PG-13 movie I ever saw in theaters, long before I was 13. I didn't understand everything but do remember enjoying it immensely at that time. Still do. I'm 35, so this movie came out when I was seven.

I'm glad this is the first Live Action Robin Williams movie you're seeing, it's his best (imo)

Trivia of the day: They had Williams put on the Mrs. Doubtfire costume and make-up and go out in public to see if anyone would recognize him. Nobody did.

The Robin Williams catalogue is DEEP. There's quite a few that are not so great, or just really weird, but his best films are incredible. Some of my favorites in chronological order: Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poet's Society, Awakenings, The Fisher King, Hook, Good Will Hunting

To everyone missing Robin, I highly recommend viewing Robin's Wish. It explains so much of what was happening to him in the last couple of years, including what happened right at the end.

The Fisher King is an underrated Robin Williams gem.

The heartbreaking thing is that Robin was in talks to do Mrs Doubtfire 2 before his death 😢😢

I believe this may have been the first Robin Williams movie I watched as a young child and was instantly hooked! Me and my siblings would watch this on the reg back when video tapes were a thing haha he has sooo many fantastic movies of different genres (he's an incredible drama actor too) but I will suggest the movies "Jack" and "Jumanji", favourites of mine when I was a child. Get ready for RW to become one of your favourite actors/comedians :) RIP RW

Robin Williams was the most incredible person. The world didn’t deserve him. God bless him. Definitely need to check out his filmography, Jack should definitely be a must watch x

Robin Williams is best known for his comedies, but his more serious roles are great as well. "Good Morning Vietnam!" has a bit of both.

They deleted a few scenes where you saw more of why Miranda fell out of love with Daniel (he is very mean to the old lady who snitched on him that lives next door, too, and their arguments are quite bad). The scenes, however, did have the effect of making Daniel seem too unlikable for his immaturity, and some of that immaturity bled into the Mrs. Doubtfire character in a way that undermined her likability, too. Deleted scenes like an argument between Miranda and Daniel and the scenes where Daniel (as Mrs. Doubtfire) advises the neighbor on hew to care for her flowers…if you know, you know…and gets downright nasty with her. There is one scene in particular that was deleted of Daniel arriving back at the house following the dinner that, if left in, would’ve made Miranda’s silence at the hearing justified (but also made him very unlikable to do it).

I guess they deleted them because they really wanted to focus more on the comedy, and not the drama. Definitely had drama in this movie, but comedy was the top priority, it seemed.

So what you've got to realize is that the genie is not a character that Robin Williams played, but it's a character that was made specifically for Robin Williams based on his personality

Well, the genie as portrayed in Disney's Aladdin was made for Robin yes, but he ad libbed a lot of it and the animation was done later for the takes that worked best. To me that was the best and only way to have worked with Robin on animation. Sadly there's a nasty tale of how that entire experience went down for him. He was clear that he didn't want merchandising made up around his genie character and they completely ignored him (or they used a loophole to get out of the agreement, I can't remember exactly). They also tried their level best to force him to drop his participation in the production of 'Ferngully: The Last Rainforest' - both because they wanted to start production of Aladdin sooner, and likely also because they wanted bragging rights of the first animated film with Robin. All things considered it's very surprising that he came back to do the 3rd Aladdin film - I can only assume that Disney just started asking him to pick a number he was happy with, probably ending with his salary far eclipsing everyone elses for that production.
