I am his disciple. He practiced for 10 hours a day and continued it for 10 years plus experience playin in innumerable amount of concerts.

Its a very absorbing percussion . This reminds me of a concert about 25 years ago where I had the pleasure of listening to Mr Sivaraman playing in front of Valayapatti (Thavil) . Ghatam Karthick plays also extremely well. Keep loading such videos !

Excellent programme. Pranams to the talents of mrudangaam and ghattam maestros. Wish the cameraman had placed the camera in a fixed position. The movement was disturbing and not conducive for peaceful listening and enjoyment of the elixirs. Yes if you close your eyes you can enjoy= but will be missing the action on the stage. Cameraman please take proper care.

First I like very much this concert and accompanying. But I am just adding my opinion : ThaniAvarthanam is for the time of Melody with laya Tala vinyasa prakriya..... shouldn't go for individual performance highlights purpose. Since Mridangam/ghatam are the accompany instruments in this concert. If they want show their individual performance highlights in their solo concerts would be great. Also there are many legendaries will be there in d world (Endaro Mahanubhavulu - not stictnt to one place).. good concert always must touch the hearts of the listener not for appearance. Please excuse if my opinion z wrong.

Checkout a documentary on UKS called Overtones. He makes it very clear that he always puts the singer first and gives examples of such. Also says, when it is time for him to show off, he does so proudly with no reservations. I defer to him. I think he had the right position on thid.

Absolutely Zero Percentage Humility, Simplicity and Time management by UKS Ji!!! He started All this gimmicks some 15 years ago when he was offered Padma Shri and till such time he was humble, his costumes were simple and vidwath was high. During 80's & 90s I used to go to Concerts only for him...As other Birudhu followed, Padma Bhushan, Vibhushan, SK etc, he started dressing Funny in All colours, Jari works, he even draped his instrument matching his attires.. And this Cocophonics is the latest and looking absolutely ridiculous and PMI Mama Must have been watching his Disciple from the Heaven and would be wondering to what happened to him and his mind that he has become a Laughing stock to All those who respects humility and simplicity among Stalwarts of yesteryears 😂🤣😛 Besides this gimmicks, his Scratching and trappings of fingers on the Valatharai has been happening for quite some time and according to A few very senior musicians (no names here), Mridangam as the Divine instrument, should be handled, played and displayed as per the Norms laid down By Our Ancestors Who were handling and performing the divine instruments in the way it deserved and respected. Just because One became world famous, he can't mishandle the divine vadhyam and play as he likes according to his whims and fancies. We are Used to ghatam being tossed up and caught but not Mridangam by any Mrudangists, Big or small, famous or infamous, High or low calibre...All that I can conclude is UKS Mama, off late have become ego centric, highly money minded and very Arrogant in his display of his Vidwath. I don't know if his father Sriman Kasi Viswanathan Iyer saw this, what he would have thought about his Lawyer son who is doing All this gimmicks in the name of innovation and exploration... Good God...😮😧😲

Couldn't agree more with you. This is terrible from UKS. I have met him before and he was not like this. He was a genuine vidwan then. I see no real material here. It is mostly fluff. So sad.

Am sure those Senior vidwans (I can already sense who are they) might Just be some Butt hurt trolls, out of sheer Jealousy & unable to digest the popularity and the dexterity of Sri UKS, even at this age. Just accept the fact and move on, There can only be one sun, one moon and one UKS. It remains a fact that what he plays even now at 85, a 25 year old CANNOT PLAY. There is absolutely no gain by just trolling here. UKS has been decorated and celebrated enough and we can only hope and pray he remains in the pink of health, continuing to enthrall for many years to come. Seniority does come with its own privileges and as the Senior most artiste on the dais, i definitely didnt see anything wrong in him taking a liberty or two.
