Edouard Kawak has always been among my top favorite picks for legendary bodybuilder. It's really sad how he was overlooked by the judges.
Kawak did, of course, come over to the IFBB in 1986. In 1987 he made it into the Olympia top 10. Back in the 1980s I religiously bought all the BB magazine’s Kawak was awesome on the NABBA stage, but was then blown away by the likes of Haney and Christian. Interestingly he was from the Lebanon like Bannout. Finally, even if he had competed in Mr Olympian from 1980 to 1983 would the politics within the IFBB have “allowed” him to win. If Mike Mentzer could not beat Arnold and Platz could not beat Franco I am doubtful Kawak would have picked up the Sandow Statue. What do you think Nick?

1982 was kind of a gift to Dickerson because he got 2nd in 80 and 81... even though he didn't deserve second either of those years.

Jack ... Well he actually got robbed off in 1980 & 1981. He really deserved the hattrick.
I was lucky enough to see Lee Haney in a seminar in the UK at the end of 1985, not long after he’d won his second Olympia. Ed Kawak was in the audience that evening, and appeared to be just about as wide as he was tall.
Ed Kawak is one of my favorite bodybuilders
Nick's Universe and Olympias
Agree about Eduardo Kawak! If he and Sergio Oliva were in it along with Mike Mentzer between 1981-1983 it would have made a far better Olympia contest!

Funny thing that to me his body is a bit similar to Mike's with better separation and conditioning.

Wow Ed Kawak was born in 1959 and he won his first Mr. Universe in 1982 he was only 23 years old. That is really impressive.
Love these Vintage Videos Ed Kawak definitely over Chris! The Original Lion of Lebanon via France!
Nick idk if you have realized this, but in the past year or 2 you have become one of the most prominent faces in bodybuilding. No exaggeration. There’s no other platform that is more reliable than your KZread channel for both bodybuilding news and history. I’m serious dude, ur rocking it! You’ve brought something special to the industry and we appreciate it!
Check out Jeff King in 1983 also - definitely could hold his own against Olympia guys, even an early Lee Haney.

Nick love the classic videos. You’ve truly put me on to a bodybuilding era I look up too and strive for ! Keep them coming
wow. thank you for the introduction. Two Lebanese Champions from same era! Samir and Eduard! after some digging: .... in 87 kawak placed 8th at the Mr. O, while Samir did not participate. in 88 Mr O. Samir placed 8th while Kawak dropped to 16th.
0:09 probably the classiest Bodybuilding Picture ever.
Pumping out great content nick. You read my mind and post content that I didn’t even know I was looking to watch lol. Great job man 👍🏻
Kawak period. Great physique, incredible lines and definition.

On that black and white video close to the end his physique looks very impressive, awsome lines and condition. GREAT VIDEO, THANKS NICK!
Really like the body building history videos! Can you do one about past controversial Olympia wins?
Damn this guy looks amazing. Can't believe I've never heard of him!
Could Seto Kaiba have been a bodybuilder?
Wow! Thank you for highlighting Ed Kawak. What an incredible physique.
Nick, props for you doing this video. I always thought IFBB stacked the deck against him when he competed for Mr. Olympia.
Greetings from germany. Love the channel keep it going😍
Our Team loves Ed Kawak very much. Many Videos of him to come. Truly a great athlete and highly highly overlooked.
Can you do a video abot samir bnout
Love your educational videos and calm voice 💖✌️
Kawaks tear drop legs was just something else
Jesus Christ great vid Nick. Consistent bangers everyday
Great Video. I saw Eduardo Kawak in the late 80's at the IFBB Night of Champions (now The NY PRO).
Those color photos of Ed Kawak were taken at O'Malley's gym, Warrington, UK. The owner - Walter O'Malley - is still training today and can't be far off 80 years old. He is still in great shape. In his time he won Mr World, Mr Universe (height class) and was voted "World's most muscular Man". I remember he still competed in his seventies. Absolute legend.
once in early 80's l visited kawak's gym in cannes he was very friendly
I’d love to see “The Complete History of the NABBA Mr. Universe” as a video
great vid as always nick
Two factors worth mentioning are condition and aesthetics. Kawak was never really ripped and although his physique was huge (for the day) and proportionate, it never really flowed. Dickerson, on the other hand, did get ripped and was considered to be highly aesthetic too.
I saw Ed Kawak in 1994 , in Timisoara , Romania . He guest posed in a competition created by a friend of mine , to honor the memory of a bodybuilder who died in the 1989 revolution . Ed wasn't in contest shape , but he was very impressive .
Thanks for doing these videos. Never knew about Ed, he was a monster.
You should some more videos of this same style of mr universe vs mr Olympia. It’d be interesting especially back in the 70’s and 80’s how they stacked up against one another.
The Mr. Universe's motions are very artful in his posing and it makes him look like it's actually a machine on stage.
Ed Kawak looked easily more impressive than Chris Dickerson!
Really interesting thanks Nick!
He did look good I would even make an argument of him beating 76' Franco Columbo
He had very impressive tear drops on his quads
Great content as always. NABBA guys in the 80s like kawak, tom brown, jeff king etc. were nothing less in physical developmen than ifbb stars.
Never heard of Ed Kawak but he was very impressive.
Ed Kawak had an outstanding phisyque. I've never heard of him before and now I'm fuckin impressed.
More like this, please.
Much underrated. The gym shots are from O'Malley gym in Warrington, England.
Samir in 83 was glorious one of my favorite physiques ever 💪🏽
I find myself watching these bodybuilding video at 1 or 2 in the morning
Nick's Bodybuilding and History Lessons
damn!! Ed Kawak !!! i thought everybody forgot about him...thanks nick!
Yes! Here for the history!
Hey Nick have you ever done a video on Serge Nubret? My old man always hails him as one of the best physiques of all time, great work though man keep it up!
Love the vintage videos
I’ve seen a number of pictures of Ed Kawak in old-school bodybuilding books. He was known for having good symmetry and being in good condition. He definitely had a great physique for that era!
His bicep Peaks are Insane!!! He would have crashed Chris Dickerson!
Nick's universe and olymipia.
Nicks strength and bodybuilding history I like
I like how we have all these researched supplements and modernized workout routines and yet no one nowadays look nearly as good golden era bodybuilders

Less gear and more brutal workouts.
Well spotted Nick. Great vid.
Don't forget Bob Gajda when he beat Sergio in the 1960s. Incredibly interesting backstory. You could probably snare an interview with Bob Gajda from Chicago.
The Lion of Lebanon vs Ed Kawak! This would have been an awesome contest!
When he eventually competed In the IFBB he got lots of 7th and 8th placings. He then went back to NABBA and WABBA and had lots of top three placings.
Chris dickerson is a time traveler, he traveled to our time and we now know him as david henry
His teardrop is crazy
Phenomenal- I have to agree.
Good investigation
Great seeing obscure BB'ers being mentioned! FYI - Dickerson's elbow were a side effect of HGH.
Peaks on Dickerson's elbows are out of this world !
LOVE the coverage of the NON-BUBBLEGUT...Thanks Nick
Nick's Olympia and Universe
Kawak(RIP) did cross over & compete in the IFBB but placed very low in shows. He then returned to NABBA & continued to win again. He passed a few years ago.
Nick I watched luimarco for years and you were always one of my favorite secondary bodybuilding channels along side the hodge twins and lui has abandoned us this year I'm glad to see you preservire and really stay true to yours fans my love for bodybuilding would have died if it wasn't for your chanel keep up the good work buds ps. I think u should start doing catch frazes it would add a really good little bit of comedy to your chanel
Ed was an extraordinary talent. One of my favorites, and the guy had a Frazetta version of Conan look to him!
About time
Nick, I love these history vids, but it’s history, BB is changing so much, could you give us an insight in to the FUTURE of bodybuilding? How you think it will be in say 5-10 years time?
To be honest, Nick is great representative of bodybuilding media, and a very good critic. I wish you an IFBB position in the future
Great video Nick it was Ed Kawak hands down! He'd a good run in the 80s and could've stood toe to toe with anybody!
Could Ed Guiliani have been AC/DC's original Lead singer? Check the pic at :50...
Excellent point
Lance Dreher is a two-time Mr. Universe and former Mr. America. Dreher was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Lance Dreher has placed in the top 3 of 10 professional body building championships. One of Lance's greatest body building features is his 23.5 inch biceps. He was a hell of a champ from that period too
Totally agreed Ed Kawak is the man!! Not only the clear winner that year but a really amazing physique in the history of bodybuilding
Kawak came back and won it again in 1993.
Ed's crucifix pose - marvelous.
Nick, i think a good idea for a video would be to take each mr olympias' best year and compare them against each other. i think that would be interesting. maybe even decide if they all went head to head in their primes who you think would be MrO of the Mr Os.

Cool idea
Definitely Kawak my husband was at the 82 Olympia in London and was so disappointed when Dickerson won Viator was the worthy winner with Samir second
ive seen him in a couple golden era videos, never knew who he was until now
Nick's olympias and universes
Both Kawak and Samir Bannout were from Lebanon. They used to train at Health and Strength Gym in Beirut. Civil war there made them immigrate. I was kid and watch their pics in the magazines at that time. Rest in Peace Edward Kawak.
