Everything about this is so ahead of its time. It present all the tropes that today music videos and music itself has use: Animal Mascots, gleaming background lights, dialogue interrupting the music, heavy bassy music (it did create the electro house genre after all), and of course, the artists themselves are European.

I don't know much about electronic music but the puppet in the videos and the dialogue of the characters is hilarious! So very understated yet so effectively funny. The guy is a genius in my opinion.

That's technically Stephane, he was the original puppet before Flat Eric, the main difference was the Stephane had ears and fingers that were fixed in place. The character was redesigned by the Jim Henson company who made the design we have now of Eric.

Okay let me explain it for you all, If you didn't know, Stéphane commited a crime. He was escaping the cops with Angel (The dude driving the car in the Levi's ad) and that's why you can see a cop pulling Stéphane and Angel over and confronting them. Stéphane changed his name to Eric Flat to avoid suspicion and hide his identity from the police, and has kept the name ever since.

And if any of you are wondering why Eric doesn't have ears and Stéphane does, it's because Stéphane was under a lot of depression and he got lost in his own world. He drank a load of alcohol and took drugs. Eventually it led up to him amputating his ears. That's when Angel found him lying on the floor covered on blood. Eric's story is pretty sad, but he did commit a crime. So yeah, just in case you don't get what I'm trying to explain, here is it in Laymans Terms: Eric and Stéphane are both the same person.

I know, right? I dated Eric for two years whilst I attended University. He had a terrible drinking problem and it didn't work out, but I digress.. Eric harbored a lot of resentment towards Stephane, though it was never completely clear why. When I finally left Eric it was Stephane that that reached out to me, and being the sweet sensitive friend that he is, proved to be a great source of comfort. I don't know what I would have done without him.
