There are good movies from every era. Luckily, we live in a time when we can choose from an increasingly huge selection. Back then you either saw it in the theater (or military establishment) or you didn't see it at all. That's why some people practically lived at the movies, because once the run ended, you wouldn't see it again.

I believe that other movies follow this order. My favorite is "The Great Hotel Murder", 1935. Maybe that film is not exactly Noir, it is splendid, with acting by Edmund Lowe, and a funny script, it moves right along.
I was born in 53 and remember my mom was a big on wearing hats back in the 50's and 60's. Looking through her closet a few years back those were some wild hats.
i thought this was a lovely fun movie. then, here comes peter lorre. anyone from my time realizes, he is a super heavyweight. this is just awesome.
This is, for me, the best performance of Peter Lorre I have seen so far and I have already watched about 65 movies with him or more, because I love him! Here he is absolutely perfect! Every move he takes, even every eyeblink he does is finest performance! I do not know, why my previous comment was not accepted, maybe because I told something about racism and homophobia, but this is true for this movie too. The movie itself is not one of the best, but Peter Lorre makes it outstanding!
I love 30s/40s crime comedy and I think this one just became one of my top five favorites. It's delightful. I laughed a lot, from the early scenes on through, and when I wasn't laughing I was grinning.

An easy fun comedy Great casting for a romantic comedy to boot. A seeming stage play brought to screen and into our living room for pure entertainment.
One of the best car chase scenes in the history of a crime drama. Lol
Screwball for sure. Fun for sure. I kept picturing, in my minds eye, Eve Arden as the secretary, but she would have upstaged everyone in this film. Peter Lorre always scares the bejeezus out of me, even in his short appearance in this movie. O'Keefe and Rice are a super good team together. The scene towards the end, where they both wear each others hats, is a joyous mimi-masterpiece of timing and comedy. I enjoyed the black man at the hotel switchboard referring to himself as Africa, but deplored the part he was assigned to play, even though he made the best of it, and did a fine job. P.S. This movie is not Film Noir.

Nice to see Peter Lorre in a Republic production, Republic may have been criticized as a low budget production company in its time but decades have proven that it deserves more credit than it got. I wonder if anyone can help. I have been desperately looking for a old film about a married women who has many admirers who constantly come to her home. Her husband is a very patient man and just allows her to live her adulterous life. Then he dies and goes to heaven. Wife continues to live her life until the day when she is also about to die. She sees the ghost of her dead husband and begs for his help and forgiveness, but he refuses and I think her fear sends her to down to hell.
