    To some people in the comments: get a drum set and play this pattern following the sixteenths: (Bd = Bass Drum / right foot, Ft = Floor Tom / right hand, Sn = Snare / left hand): Bd - Ft - Ft - Bd - Sn - Ft - Bd - Ft Ft - Bd - Bd - Ft - Sn - Ft - Ft - Bd Simultaneously follow the eighths with the Hi-Hat (left foot) All this for 4 minutes and 40 seconds with groove and without mistake or hesitation. Now come back and tell me again that this song was too easy! (edit: fixed a mistake I made writing the pattern)

    Since this song came out, I said it was a clinic on simple sounding lines, that aren’t but go ahead try them yourself. Paul’s droning riff on 0-11-11-0 that sounds like 3 notes, but isn’t. billy three finger quarter note at 120 bpm. One of my fav drum patterns, but didn’t know it was also complicated. Thx for laying it out.

    As a professional musician and band-leader, what amazes me the most about Yoyoka is not her incredible chops (which are obviously astonishing) but the level of maturity she has about knowing when to sit in the pocket, and how to make the whole performance breathe. I've met musicians with more years of playing than she has been living who have not yet mastered this. She is an astounding musician.

  • @koshersalaami

    It wouldn’t matter if this part was easy. It’s one thing if she’s doing a cover with no other musicians involved; those are about her drumming. This is a gig. This is a collaboration. She’s not doing the equivalent of playing with a record, she’s playing with a band. Is In this case, all that is relevant is how well she serves the song. That’s the sign of a pro, and she is absolutely a pro. A frighteningly gifted pro, quite possibly the most natural drummer I’ve ever seen. At ten.

  • @koshersalaami

    @koshersalaami

    And now that I’m listening to this under good cans rather than through an IPad speaker I realize how not easy this drumming is. You miss the bass drumming through too small a speaker and that’s so much of it. And while she’s casually doing that she’s lip synching the chorus. Great restraint on the exposed drum part. Such a pro.

  • @koshersalaami

    @koshersalaami

    Martin Urban I haven’t seen anyone complaining about how this song is easy. I did on her last video, the first time I’ve ever written anything critical to her as I am a serious fan and think she’s one of the most interesting musicians on KZread and quite possibly the most natural drummer I’ve ever seen. Most of her covers showcase her drumming; after all, she’s playing alone to a recording. I didn’t think her last video did a good job of that. That wasn’t a criticism of the song itself, it is a good song. If she’s at the stage where she’s bringing material to a new audience and that’s her purpose, that’s something else, but that hadn’t been her purpose previously that I’d noticed. If you’re referencing my comment on her last video, this is a completely different case as this is not playing to a recording, this is a performance with eminent peers, so if her drumming were simple on this that would be irrelevant. However, her drumming is far from simple on this, so no criticism would be appropriate because it wouldn’t fit the case and a negative assessment of her performance itself wouldn’t be accurate.

    2日前の動画公開から20回位コメントを見ながら聴いています。今回の演奏は今までのカバー演奏との違いを感じているよよかファンが多いと思います。レジェンド Billy の演奏の偉大さを改めて感じるのは勿論ですがドラムが幾つかのリズムの組み合わせの繰り返しの中にベース、ギター、ボーカルが絶妙に重なり合い Spectacuhar (壮観)、Magnifcent (雄大) なドラマの如く仕上がっている。との意見が幾つかありました。私もロックとしては雄大でドラマティックな曲だとおもいます、手数の多さだけがドラムではないという見本みたいな曲と演奏でした。

Just make it the 🤞🏻hopefully🤞🏻 post-COVID concert of epic proportions and it’ll be better than the incredible greatest of all time yet undeniably terrifying Beijing opening ceremony.

    I agree. That's why I enjoy Yoyoka the most out of all the young talents. She just seems to have fun without trying to be a show off. No offense to other "kid drummers", they are just kids after all, but it just annoys me. Yoyoka doesn't need to show how cool she is. We all know she is the coolest anyway. Also I think the way she plays makes her look way cooler than most other drummers.
