was crazy similar to what u pointed out before is some streams don’t come up at all if you search ‘Minecraft’, for example, in the search bar and then you filter by live there will be certain live streams there and then when you go to the game category on KZread that has ‘videos’ and ‘shorts’ and ‘live’ there and you can click on what should be every live stream of that game. You can see that there are live streams that come up in the search that are not under the games ‘live’ section and vice versa

if you’re subscribed to a channel, their livestreams will show up on recomended, the sub-box and subscriptions sidebar.

The live streaming setup on KZread is so bad.

There's people around the world who have great ideas that can take the 'live streaming' to another new level or most potential, but live in locations with poor or limited infrastructures to broadcast over the internet. This just seems like a major reason we aren't quite there yet... maybe! But I still love your work here 👍

It is worth noting that this video discussing why livestreaming doesn't always work is a pre-recorded and edited video and not in fact a livestream, telling in and of itself. For whatever reason YT is simply not interested in pushing out livestreams in any significant way... perhaps it's because there is no real appetite. But that said, I've been following you and learning from you for years now, because all of your teachings also apply to another kind of video and that is live to tape. Your OBS lessons and such allow me and people I work with to create productions that are 90-95% done after the recording is stopped and that is an absolutely invaluable tool for turnaround time. So thank you for all that you do!

KZread makes a lot of decisions that make creators scratch their heads, but being the biggest platform means that you have to ride their ride even if you don't like that one loop that it makes. 🙂 I suspect that KZread decided, in the beginning, not to compete with Twitch in the live streaming arena, and surely they've run the numbers and logistically decided that it doesn't make sense (from a profitability position) to put more resources into their live streaming algorithm. They are clearly more interested in competing with Tiktok and Instagram in the vertical format arena. And who can blame them? They can do the same thing that those platforms do and not pay anybody anything for them and people just keep making them anyway just for likes and clout. 🙄 I think if they had a shift where major artists/creators of any variety were live streaming to KZread, that could be a catalyst to get them to develop a better discovery system, but it's a catch 22 because streamers aren't going to go here until they make some big moves and they're not going to make any big moves until they have incentive.

The advertising potential of livestreams probably sucks compared to KZread's average video upload, thus not incentivizing KZread to even care about livestreaming.

@@DejayClayton fair enough. But it’s sort of the chicken and the egg thing. If they pushed it more, they could use algorithmic influence to create another advertising lane for themselves, and live broadcasting advertising is the absolute holy grail of marketing still. That’s why professional sports leagues are crushing it with contracts right now, live eyeballs/consumers. I sorta feel like KZread should absorb a bit more of the growing pains for that revenue potential than they’ve currently committed themselves to.

What they lose in advertisement they make up for with membership and super chats is it’s a large stream.

Steve Seguin's VDO Ninja was made for a live game show! Karaoke might be a fun stream too, especially if you can get, say, Patreon members to come on. As for game streaming, you're right about the modern games. But I'm starting to see more retro game streams now with old games.

Karaoke would be awesome, but would never work because of the copyright restrictions that revolve around the music industry. It's the reason why only the singing shows have people singing the songs people know because the networks pay the licensing fees involved with playing those songs over the air. It's a shame though, would be a hit.

You can use whatever you want.

I don’t normally comment I like all your stuff Michael I hope you read this comment but standing from illegal point with the NFL or NBA or any of these other teams how are you not infringing on copyright by adding descriptions or all that stuff to a live stream while a game is going on in the background that you’recommentating on maybe I’m wrong. I probably am but that seems like you could run into some copyright infringement by doing some kind of sports betting real time commentary on games that are currently running on NFL Redzone.
