So the parents thought friends could not rape friends? Did they not know then that fathers & uncles raped their children & nieces? I think this is a pathetic excuse. The owe Mpumi an apology.

I don't know this family but it seems like the parents did some real bad parenting here and still don't see how wrong they are. Who beat up a child that has been raped.

Parents sometimes are just unreasonable. What does Masiba mean when she says it didn't make sense that a friend could rape a friend when there are people raping their own children out there🤦‍♀️

Watching this brought back memories that I've never shared with anyone especially my family. Talking about it will only ease the pain but won't heal my soul?

Mpumi needs a heart to heart apology from her parents how they handled the issue was wrong,in cases of abuse you need your family to believe & back you up,it is pure stupidity that her mom wants her to speak at her niece's school without hugging & apologizing to Mpumi 1st for her to heal. Mama needs to be empathetic to Mpumi 1st before they even attempt to help outsiders. I would be mad too if my parents did this to me.sorry Mpumi

The mom still doesn't seem apologetic. Where is the remorse. She keeps justifying why she beat her.

I totally understand her a friend of mine went through the same thing. The guy was a friend and than started to persue a relationship with her. And just that trial he become a monster first beat her up over a simple request and after that rape her. We as friends told her to lay charges but she was been threaten excatly the same way that he will kill his son. And to make matter worse mist friends judged her n couldn't support her. So most of judge instead of listening and observing the signs.

This is the problem with subscribing to a standard of rape created by other people. It invalidates many other scenarios where that may occur. Meaning these parents for some reason dont understand rape can be by a friend or family etc because again those are supposed to be the people who support you right? But wrong cos you never know what anyones intentions or capabilities are until the moment you see it for yourself. We cannot continue to say "no that person could never" because they could, the just didnt do it to you. Though in her case it genuenly was not her friend, if it was, would it have made the event any less traumatic? In my opinion it can be in fact more traumatizing because yes we're taught not to trust the world, but never faugh to think like that about our homies so that becomes a violation of trust. Who can you go to when those closest to you seem to want to harm you? The whole point is to say, the parents should know not to over trust people they dont know over their children, they too were taught to be weary of strangers and stranger danger was a thing for them, so why do they all of a sudden have amnesia over that lesson? It is contextually applicable to this instant too. Support your children, listen to them and hear them before you reprimand them for other peoples wrong doing.

@Nina King are you African? MaSiba grew up in a totally different time. She would have to have a revolutionary spirit to have a different mindset. Beating her daughter was not the right think to do, but I feel she has learnt from the sad experience.
