I could watch VFX breakdowns all day. This is one of those movies where I didn't even think about the VFX because they were so well done (as was the rest of the film), so it's awesome to watch something like this where the effects are brought to attention.

fantastic! I am particularly impressed with the visor work. I would have never guessed a majority were CG. Now I know why they didn't fog up :)

+Scott Barnett They did have full helmets with lamps in it to light their faces in some scenes. But you have to replace the visor in post anyway because of the réflections.

most of what you see in modern films is actually all digitally added in. not all films but the majority of feature length hollywood movies, most of it is on a soundstage with green screen, although it can look like they are actually walking through NYC in real life. insane!
Mind. Blowing. MPC are masters of their art.

It's safe to say that visual effects have gotten to the point where I can't tell what's real and what isn't.
cmiVFX is proud to have MPC as our training customers. Its wonderful to see hints of our techniques being used successfully in new and creative ways, Kudos to all of you for a job well done.

Amazing !
Amazing what the media player classic can do today.
This is fantastic. I had no idea how much of an art form this had become.
Awesome job, the helmet reflections were flawless when I watched the film. Well all of them!!
Great video, loved how the individual layers and filters slid in. Clearly a lot of work just to produce this short piece.
An amazing work. Best VFX of Oscar should be given for this!!!
absolutely incredible
Incredible.
Mind Blowing!
Fantastic!
Welcome 2 my world of creative arts. The best job in world!.

Nothing that can't be achieved using Windows Movie Maker ;) No seriously, this is incredibly well done and outstanding work!
well done
Wow, amazing!
very cool
So good!
Crazy!
MOTHER OF GOD!
Even the reflections were computer generated! What the fuck!? Well done mates!
The most amazing thing to me, is how they didn't get any extra studio light reflections on the helmets and equipment

I'd appreciate this more if the inconsistencies in the movie (plastic blowing in the wind on pressurized hab vs plastic bubble exploding on pressurized rover.. as a single example) didn't ruin the magic every few MINUTES.
@BioClone

what was wrong with the hab¿
Did your team handle Mark Watney's extreme starvation shot? I thought that was crazy!
this one should be called Matt Damon's helmet tracking)

Oscars campaign huh. While its great work, you can't win an Oscar for mostly composite work.
What's the music? is it from the original soundtrack? Lovely
When does the Fantastic Beast breakdown come?
Are the cgi, sets, motion and effects compiled with After Effects?
@FindusGame11

Alexandre Probably Nuke. After Effects, although it is a powerful software, isn't that popular in the industry.
¿Where can i see the CGI beard?
That over the program you did it??
What do all the "wag the dog" comments refer to?
@2000Paranoik
8 жыл бұрын
+Adrian Womack There was a film about group of cinematorgaphers, making fake war-footages, to cover political fault of the President. This is probably reference to believability of CGI in this movie.
what kind of program is used on editing? maya?? aftereffect??
@FindusGame11

이재원 If you mean compositing, they probably use Nuke. For 3D they probably used Maya and/or Houdini.

This film's VFX compositing was done in Blackmagic Fusion Studio. You can see what other films were made with this software over on the product page of Blackmagic (under showcase tab).

God Spoke Yeah i was thinking something like substance, but those rocks look to perfect to be procedural , me thinks its a combination of sculpting , photo scanning and what ever there in-house tech is.

But why make the helm glass in GCI ?

It would've reflected the camera and the crew of the director filming the scene.

@DeepEye1994

At 1:58, the green screen does not cover the whole sky. So what gives?
@NilesBlackX
8 жыл бұрын
It's pretty easy to directly crop a region. Greenscreen is for when the edges are complicated to define. So, there's a greenscreen backdrop behind the foreground objects, but there's no reason to stretch it all the way up when you can just remove that part indiscriminately....
@DJ1000ization
