The third vintage kit being re-released by Round2 is the MPC AT-AT. This kit is originally from 1981 and is a 7 inch tall AT-AT with articulated legs and neck. It also comes with two small snowspeeders and laser turrets. In this video we unbox it and start looking at sub assemblies.

A spring? In the neck??!!? These kids today, and their new fangled technologies. Next thing you'll know, they'll be building models with one of those thingamajig whatchamacallit printers I keep hearing about. I forget what they're called.... Oh wait. Yes I do. Inkjets. lol
I had this kit when it first came out. I had fun sneaking a snow speeder to school in my shirt pocket
Heh. As a kid, I built at least three of these.
I have an original kit from 1980 that's been sitting on a shelf, and yes it uses a rubber band and not a spring.
Very glad they replaced the rubber band with a spring.
The Grissom parts are indeed from the MPC snowspeeder.
I absolutely LOVE the artwork on the box! It all feels vintage and I can't wait to pick mine up! Also, the stabilizer pistons on the inside of the foot joint should be glued to the ankle, not the feet. It'll move freely as you flex the ankle.
The original kit did indeed include the two small snow speeders and turrets along with an elastic band for the neck articulation. However the front two legs were the only ones that had full movement at the hip and knee joints. The back legs only moved at the hips. This was the major drawback of the kit, and it’s good that this rerelease addresses that issue.
Ah, yes - models from back in the day when you ALWAYS had to clean up your parts. Great review, You could give the hpi-incompetent-guy some pointers. Yup real Snowspeeder kit parts on the studio model from TWOK.
Am a real big star wars fan I saw a real photo of the at at your going to have cut the ladder on the side of your model lit of your at at your going to have to use small brass rods to make the new ones I hope this helps you I can't wait until I see your next video on your at at you have a good day be safe
The turrets that came with MPC's "Battle of Hoth Action Scene" diorama kit have better detail as those with the AT-AT kit have zero surface detail. The incorporation of a spring instead of a rubber band is a very nice upgrade. So are the back legs articulated this time around?
I had the very first original kit and the neck used a rubberband. The spring is so much of a better solution.
👍👌😎🍺🍺🍻
I find it really odd thst you didn't realize that you were putting the rotational portion of the ground turret onto the fixed portion... UPSIDE DOWN. The inset area fits over the cylibdrical portion of the base. and the little "button" part which holds that on represents the turret commander's hatch. The 1980s instruction sheet made this perfectly clear, even if you don't "test fit" everything. It's not confidence-building to see the model incorrectly assembled in a "review."
👍
The original had a rubber band in the neck
I had one that walked it had a electric motor in it.
Where are the figures...
New release… Same old molds? Or are there any updates to the parts/molding/engineering? I don’t mind raised panels, though. Fairly easy to scribe, or just ignore!
