Will this start playing upon power up without having to press a button?

I'm still amazed at the amount these things can do for under $3.

This sounds like I could use this for a sound track for DIY Halloween props, as far as MP3 player capability goes. I would add external amp of course. So it plays audio track upon power up?

Set up as a remote operated Barking Dog to combat neighbor's barking dog. Used 12 volt battery w buck step down converter to run Mp3 board at 5.1 vdc and powered a blow horn type speaker with mini LM386 amplifier. The thing works Great BUT after turning it on an off about 10 times, from about 75 yards away, it suddenly stops working. Once retrieved and examined everything apears to be working fine except it does not play Mp3 file. Maybe it will play multiple files of barking dogs but the file naming convention is incorrect or it gets to end of 3rd file and will not loop back without a push button assist. Not sure what the magic combination is to finally get it working again. Same thing happens once it plays through first 3 Mp3 files. Any Ideas ??

I was not aware of these boards until I saw your video a few weeks ago. I really like these little boards. They seem to work well as a signal source with Class D amplifiers and other small, cheap, amplifiers. Have you or has anyone tried to alter the programming at all with these? If I could make one change it would be to add a random play mode. It's pretty easy to load up flash memory devices with several hundred songs, but having the ability to play them in a random sequence would be even better. I set up a small system with an old, beat up pair of Bose 2.2 speakers, a 35W solar panel and a couple of voltage regulators (5V and 12V). It plays all day while I'm out working in the yard, and needs no additional power source while the sun is out. I added some ultra-capacitors in series to cover the longer cloudy periods which seems to work well. I even added a charge port for my cell phone. I can't believe how great it all sounds, running for free from nothing more than sunlight. Lots of potential with these inexpensive, low power consumption devices.

what a cool board. they make a board for everything. a portable boom box could sound fantastic these days. bigdwiz did a amp board shootout and used this cool voltage amplifier to crank it to like 24v from a 12v battery. a fun project to test your box building skills, ergonomics, durability, and so on. make it with exactly the features needed.

I have one similar to this board. I use it as a background music system with about 4 days or so worth of continuous playtime. The issue with mine that it seems to be unable to process more than 1000 files (my estimation). I encoded the albums as long MP3 files to reduce the number of files.

Thanks for the review, it may not be great for playing music as such but for adding sound to a model it is pretty good .however it has its limits as to adding individual sounds to different buttons for sound effects.

Hi John great channel. I brought 10 of these when they were £2 on Amazon, they run for a long time on one 18650 but don't put larger speakers on it as the small chip by the speaker block gets red hot and burns out, but if you don't ask too much from it it performs well, I've used many as a preamp/input out to another xmini amp and both devices power from one 18650 and make a rather good internal kit for a portable speaker. The one thing I really wish it had was a folder search option for file access.

Is this board suitable for a audio clip trigger scenario in toys? I mean if you put only one short audio file and play play without the repeat function? Will it just play the sample and stop till the next play button press?

I finally had a chance to play with the boards I got 5 years ago. They will play with 4MB micros SD cards I bought. I can't get them to work with 4MB USB thumb drives. I have the same files in both and the USB memory sticks just just won't start. Any special file naming convention or other suggestions. Thanx
