@Marilyn1122 This was released on DVD in 2005, but the original recording was made in 1971. I was particularly impressed by Walter Berry as most recordings drown out the bass's "Sonum", but he manages to make it come through seemingly effortlessly. I am not sure if he really does the whole phrase in one breath as it is possible to take some air in on the two s's before Sonum, but it looks and sounds seamless. How fortunate that this recording exists, and how good it is for a 40 year old one!

Here's the translation if anyone wants it: The trumpet will send its wondrous sound throughout earth's sepulchres and gather all before the throne. Death and nature will be astounded, when all creation rises again, to answer the judgement. A book will be brought forth, in which all will be written, by which the world will be judged. When the judge takes his place, what is hidden will be revealed, nothing will remain unavenged. What shall a wretch like me say? Who shall intercede for me, when the just ones need mercy?

@simone qa Actually they're singing in Germanic Latin. When the piece was composed, Italian Latin wasn't the standard. Seeing as Latin was a dead language, every nationality had variations in pronunciation influenced by their own language. Some conductors and ensemble perform works from the classical and baroque periods with the pronunciation it would have had at the time, for authenticity.

OMG, I have the CD of this performance! My aunt send it to me for my 8th birthday(I'm 31 now). I've been wondering/looking for the video of it for ages! Best performance of Requiem ever

Walter Berry sounds great! And what breath management!!!
The tenor solo
I'm impressed by Mozart's musical genius, it's like even in his least inspirational days he wrote something amazing
Mr. Berry... I tip my hat to thee sir. Simply astounding technique. Relaxed face with flawless breath control. Showing only that the piece is "easy" for him. Singers.... take note.

This is by far my favorite interpretation of the Tuba Mirum
Latin was difficult as a language, but how perfect, how beautiful, how great!! And all languages have taken so much from It, not only the Romances as Spanish, Italian and French but also the Anglo Saxons. Tuba mirum!!! OMG!!
I can just imagine Walter Berry telling his kids to go to their room. LOL

This aria is purely and simply one of Mozart's greatest pieces, ever.

@Martin Couvez: It is actually the Trombone Tenore, so it technically be "2nd Trombone" who plays the solo. Trombone 3 was bass, and Trombone 1 was alto.
@jauch0

Mozart didn't think that the alto trombone (trombone 1) would be appropriate for this. That's why the solo is in the second part (tenor trombone).

For me, this is the « canon » version of the requiem… I wish that I leave enough money behind to hire a choir singing this at my funeral…
Peter Schreier is considered one of the "Less beautiful" tenors in the history of opera.....but NOBODY comes close to his performance on this.

I can just picture the bass at home telling his kids to go to their room. LOL You would definitely obey. What a spectacular voice, gives me chills.
I just can't stop to listen this interpretation, is simply superb!
Qué bárbaro! Bravo! Excelente! Muy bien! Me encanta.
Excellent interpretation,beautiful voices 🌺❤️🌺
Gorgeous! Top musicians all around, and what awesome acoustics.
Generally I don't like high-pitched voices, but in this rendition both soprano and tenor are very impressive. Because of them I keep restarting this clip again and again.
Have sung this many times as choir member, but this is THE BEST of solists I have ever heard!
Meraviglioso!
Just searching this song and enjoying its majestic and glorious sound makes us all incredibly special.
I like this interpretation very much, it's very well balanced. And the voices of the soloists are wonderful!
My favourite Mozart! Very nice.
I can't get enough of that bass's gorgeous voice.
Beautiful voice, thank you 🙏
Beautiful composition and great execution by all - thank you.
I always found the ending of Tuba Mirum the most Mozart ending ever. Full of a beautiful but unreacheable longing.
Definitly the best tuba mirum
Love it :). This is one of the very best I have ever heard!
Walter Berry, in Höchstform! Spitze! Gundula Janowitz, eine instrumental geführte Stimme, hell, klar, wunderschön! Herausragend, Peter Schreier!
Has anyone noticed how long is the first phrase? 20 seconds breath!
It's interesting that none of the soloists move their heads in the slightest while singing, and the sound (of course) comes out clear as a bell. I think it's quite a contrast with many soloists today who seem to move about rather more when singing.

Estamos encantados G&S

Maestro Schreier, danke!
This is my favorite part of The Mozart Requiem... but then again, I'm a Baritono, so I'm prejudiced ...and this fits right in my tessitura and passagio.
Peter Schreier - the best of the best!
