Don Giovanni is an opera in two acts with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to an Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. Its subject is a centuries-old Spanish legend about a libertine as told by playwright Tirso de Molina in his 1630 play El burlador de Sevilla y convidado de piedra. It is a dramma giocoso blending comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements (although the composer entered it into his catalogue simply as opera buffa). It was premiered by the Prague Italian opera at the National Theater (of Bohemia), now called the Estates Theatre, on 29 October 1787. Don Giovanni is regarded as one of the greatest operas of all time and has proved a fruitful subject for commentary in its own right; critic Fiona Maddocks has described it as one of Mozart's "trio of masterpieces with librettos by Da Ponte".

One of great Mozart's operas. Many great arias (Madamina il catalogo è questo, La ci darem la mano and many others). It was the first opetlra I saw many years ago in Salzburg at Summer festival. Unforgetable experience.

It's quite simply a masterpiece! And the fact that he wrote the opening for it the night before the opera premiered makes his genius stand out even more 🤯

I sing this opera buffa by memory I don't know Italian for now but I'm improving my Spanish and then I will learn Italian which will be easy for me and I want to thank Mozart for opera, Lorenzo Da Ponte for libretto, all role players of Don Giovanni; Don Giovanni, Commendatore, Donna Anna, Don Ottavio and all the ones that I could write. And thanks to HalidonMusic I can listen to the masterpiece again and again.

It's pretty good - just watched "I'm back" by belle Delphine, right before this video. Hard to say what I like more, but I appreciate the work they put into their work retrospectively. Good job Mozart u bussin👍🏻

I agree, if well done, both musically and on the stage. The amazing thing about Mozart’s music is that he could describe absolutely everything perfectly in the music. Feelings, stage effects, the background scenery, absolutely everything is in the music. In the finale for example Mozart describes rushing fire to the terror of Don Giovanni that withstands everything BEFORE he is dragged down to hell. Yet many stage directors have no fire at all, or only when he is swallowed by the opening in the ground. The music at that point is fortissimo and has to be absolutely terrifying. The best I heard was in the old version of Karl Bohm He was able to make the scene the most terrifying music I ever heard.

Salut Sylvain, le tableau s'appelle "La Jarretière" et le peintre est Jean François de Troy. Comme le titre l'indique, la femme est en train de remonter sa jarretière et rejette la proposition de l'homme de l'aider.
