Oh my god!!!! Nothing brings me to tears as much as this piece. At the start he’s asking Mozart to stand by him, and it turned out to be the most glorious performance ever.
Mr. Bernstein passed away about 6 months after this performance. He was truly one of our great treasures; Mozart would've have been very pleased.

It was so beautiful seeing him directing this one of the saddest deepest gut-wrenching songs of the entire world
This is perfection and this version is by far the best. All the others are played way too fast while this version captures the whole range of emotions much better. Also, the modulations and transitions are made with such finesse... And the dynamics are on point! Simply sublime... Heaven on Earth.

I've listened to every different performance of this piece that I can find. I keep coming back to Lenny and this wonderful choir and orchestra. For me, no one gets this music better. Marvelous.

I believe Mozart wrote this when he was 12...
I remember singing this as a child when I was in my local church choir. It's a sublime piece of music that moved me then and still does so years later.
I NEVER TIRE OF THIS MUSICAL PIECE! I remember in my senior year in high school, I'd sung this song with a choir at a local school in 1976!
So peaceful and tranquil, heavenly in truth. Mozart's life was truly a gift for the ages.

El primer arrebato místico lo tuve cumplidos los once años, una mañana de Junio, en la sala de canto del seminario menor de las Vistillas. Por unos instantes creíme en brazos de un ángel y, liberado de toda gravedad, devine pura trasparencia. Ensayábamos por entonces el Ave Verum Corpus de Mozart, que al entonarlo hizo crecer en mí la determinación de alcanzar algún día la santidad. Aún hoy, siento un estremecimiento al oír este motete y, si la santidad pasó de largo, quedo turbado por estos cuarenta y seis compases de entrañable sotto voce. En particular cuando surge aquel lejano “cuius latus perforatum unda fluxit et sanguine”, revivido en carne propia.

me llama la atención que alguien al que se le presupone un mínimo de cultura sea capaz de escribir como tu lo haces, y mas siendo várdulo. Tu antropología me parece muy pobre, el misticismo infantil lo puedo entender mas que nada por pertenecer a la cuerda de tenores, sea como sea este Ave Verum es una maravilla, pero no para hacerse esas pajas mentales. @@berto19557 Yes, Ave Verum.. IS "wonderful"-literally >full of wonder! Yet why negate Pedro's mystical experience? If it enriches the music for him, and he chooses to share it with others online, what's wrong with that? It's, in effect, a profound compliment on the transcendent quality of this piece. And no one needs to be mystical to perceive that: Forgot everyone else and just take in the depth of spirit and mind conveyed by the great Leonard Bernstein.... Every fiber of his being was immersed in the beauty, subtlety and wonder of Mozart's shimmering gem. He was one with this masterpiece- and not merely as a great conductor joins with the music... even more, with the exquisite spirit it brings to us from above. So I say *more power to any/everyone who is touched especially deeply by Ave Verum...

The concert in the video was recorded in 1990 i think. The building is the church of my hometown. I was a kid back then and didn't care about classic music, but i just recognized the unique look of the church when i watched the video. 🙂

You're so very lucky to have that talent. My brother played and sang in the choir every Sunday Mass in Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral . I'm dying to play piano and I know I have a gift but I'm self conscious to learn!

It amazes me that one composer could write such sublime music. I have just listened to the Adagio from his 23rd Piano Concerto and have been equally moved; it's such a tragedy that Mozart died so young - I wonder what else he could have written had he had a longer life? And then to die a pauper - so sad
