As far as PPV buy rates go it's irrelevant as this is a bonus event and going to make a lot more money than doing no event at all. People like you sound idiotic with those kinds of statements.

@@DA-xm9xm in general, so far AEW has a very high conversion rate when it comes to buyrates (a relevant percentage of the tv viewership ends up buying the ppvs), they have a loyal fanbase that while somewhat niche is willing to spend for their events. Also, the "casual fans" may tune in on free tv, but I doubt they are the ones buying ppvs regardless of the company.

I’d actually want NJPW to win most of their matches at Forbidder Door including Tanahashi for the Interim AEW Title. I think it opens up for further storylines down the road and not to mention expansion of AEW across Asia. I also hope Omega makes a surprise return during the ppv.

I fucking love how we got Okada to cut some promos in this. I always appreciate AEW letting the talent speak in their native tongue.

if you really think about it...Mox is 1000% right..If it wasn't for him essentially holding the IWGP US Title "Hostage" overseas during the Pandemic and bringing in Nagata and KENTA to have matches on Dynamite...There wouldn't BE a Forbidden Door PPV. Those events helped to form a trusting relationship between AEW and NJPW.

true, but Tanahashi is also correct. When he coined the phrase "forbidden door" it was in reference to how a lot of NJPW talent wanted to work with AEW, but it was a management culture which made such a thing "forbidden". I don't think Mox's hard work would have been as successful if Tana wasn't pushing for it as well. It's fitting then the headline match is between the men that made it possible.

Oh okay, so we’re just gonna pretend The Bucks and Kenny Omega don’t exist? Not to mention Adam Page, Lance Archer, Jericho, Trent, etc. Forbidden Door began long before COVID. The seeds were being sewn the moment AEW formed. Mox did play a key role, but you’re kidding yourself if you don’t see that this was going to happen one way or another regardless. Probably sooner if not for the pandemic.

You're right about AEW's production team always puts together great video packages but it's ashamed that they never utilize them until right before the ppv's. AEW would do themselves a favor by putting these types of video packages on dynamite and rampage for the last month just to introduce fans to the New Japan talent showing why anyone should be interested in watching ppv.

I can't wait until we finally get Mox vs Okada

Forbidden door is not for the company fans but it's for the professional world wrestling fans.

I don't think we'll see either of them. Kenny has said directly he doesn't want to take anybody's spotlight away by showing up but not able to do anything, Punk will have similar opinion. However, I can see the winner of the Interim championship getting a few minutes to bask in the glory before Cult Of Personality hits and Punk walks onto the entrance ramp, title in hand, for a stare-down to close the show.

Seriously, thank you Jay White. Over the past year he’s been crossing to different promotion and elevated each one. He was the spark that lit to this PPV. And Kenny Omega, too. Both wrassler walked through those doors of opportunity and capture gold or defeated the best everywhere they visited.

I’m kinda hoping Tanahashi becomes interim AEW Champion, because it would set up a great story where he takes the title to NJPW and countless people try to take the belt back but fail, and then Punk returns from injury and becomes undisputed AEW Champion.

and if it weren't for the G1 Climax then it would make perfect sense. But if the point of an interim champion is to keep the title on TV during Punk's absence, it makes no sense to put the interim title on a guy who won't be on AEW TV for over a month. Unless, of course, Tana truly is insane and will work AEW events during the G1.

This is a history making event I don’t think people understand how big of a deal this is.

I can't believe this is happening. I first got to learn about the depth of new japan's excellence after Okada Omega 1. Before that I knew NJPW because of Nakamura. I knew about Okada and Tanahashi but by name only. I didn't know much about the others. Then Okada Omega 1 happened and I knew this was a special promotion. I went deep in learning more about new japan and all their stars. And i have been waiting for them to become mainstream. It's been a long time. And i never believed it would happen.

This a super big deal growing up I always wondered if there's any wrestling company's gonna work together like this I see it getting bigger sooner

They've coped well with all the injuries and now we have a good first crossover card, plus a lot of big matches still on the table for the future

You see how big this is when everyone who's saying "I'M the best in the world" sounds incredibly legit. Okada, Tanahashi, Mox, Ospreay, ZSJ, FTR, Jay White, Hangman, and this is neither everybody in the show nor everybody in the companies. The level here is unmatched.

Mox is so badass lol I'd love to see him be the first 2 time AEW champ, he deserves it. But at the same time, I think it'd be very interesting to have the interim belt go to NJPW with Tanahashi.

Can't wait for Forbidden Door! I was there for Punk's return and now an inaugural cross over event. I'm more excited to see some of the NPJW stars. I don't care who they're fighting. I never thought I'd get to see Ospreay, Tanahashi, Suzuki, and Okada in person! 🤟🏾

if we didn't have the G1, I'd say it was certain Tana would win. But, if the entire point of an Interim champion is to have the title represented on TV during Punk's absence, you wouldn't put the title on a guy who isn't going to be on TV for over a month. Unless, of course, Tana is insane and will make AEW appearances during the G1. There are no G1 matches on a Wednesday after all...

I can see Kenny Omega turning up after the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. He has history with all four in the match, whoever wins it makes sense. BTE/ROH history with Adam Cole's death, the title loss to Hangman, the incredible matches with Okada and with Jay White with Bullet Club.

Kenny will not be in Chicago. He confirmed it begrudgingly in a recent interview. He's still recovering from surgery

there is absolutely no reason and no point for Kenny to show up. We all wish he would in some capacity, but nothing would be gained by it, and why waste the nuclear pop now? CM Punk, however, could well show up on the ramp and have a staredown with the interim champ to close the show. Both guys holding their belts high.

Punk will remember he lost the opportunity to headline Forbidden Door in his City of Chicago. So the next Forbidden Door will bring lots more expectations. Makes for a great story! 🙂
