Wow. I'm 71, and I grew up in Ocean Springs. My mother remarried to a guy from California, and we moved to CA in 1959. But, I swear, Ocean Springs was noted for it's beautiful beach and coastal resorts, but it wasn't a 'cultural art place' when I was a kid. There were no black kids in my school, if you know what I mean. I'm so glad to hear that the town has evolved, and I would like to visit it again, some day.. There was a pier on the beach and we would place our crab traps and catch buckets full of crabs, they were so good to eat. I remember at times you'd have to be on the look out for jelly fish, they sting a bit, when wading in the ocean. No waves, though, like the pacific and atlantic. My second grade teacher was Mrs Taconi and I hear they named an elementary school after her. I remember we lived in a house on Government street, right next to a school, because I would walk a block to school, didn't have to take the bus like so many other kids. I wonder if that hold house is still there, probably not. Thank you for posting this.

Ocean Springs looks really special! I just moved to North Mississippi a couple years ago, but plan on visiting the coast sometime soon.

I love the MS Coast! Waveland and Bay St. Louis next door are my favorite towns! I like them all personally.

I like Ocean Springs, Mississippi. I used to live in Ocean Springs years ago (until 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit).

We have festivals like every weekend, it’s crazy!!

We are planning to relocate in 2 years, can't wait.

My wife and I plan to start vacationing there this Summer, and hope to buy a 2nd home there within a few years, that we would rent, until we are ready to retire there in about 13 years.

I’m here in Biloxi at The White House Hotel. I happened to drive around and by chance made it to Ocean Springs. That downtown area is absolutely amazing. Super Beautiful.

Going to Alabama and then Then Georgia to meet some family I’ve never met, Then to the Carolinas to visit family then through Tennessee and more. I just got back to the hotel. I can’t believe how nice it is down in Ocean Springs. I feel like I fell into paradise. I’m actually a Realtor as well.

You should do a comparison video of retiring in Mississippi vs Florida.

That was a great little clip on Ocean Springs. My daughter will be doing her Masters at USM and May have to move south by the end of June, but being from Maine it's been difficult searching for a place to live without really knowing the area. The beaches look pretty nice, but every time I’ve been to that area of the gulf coast I really don’t get into brown water. That’s what I remember is the lack of Clearwater.

Yeah we don’t have blue water but we also don’t have super crowded beaches. There’s pros and cons for sure Pensacola has beautiful water! I lived there for seven years and there beach is absolutely gorgeous and it’s 2.5 hours away. 😊

All I know is that it is 31 degrees with freezing rain here, and it is 67 in Ocean Springs right now.

@@mississippigulfcoasthomesw1059 Hey! Frankfort, Kentucky. But I retired a couple of months ago, waiting on the wife now. Looking for a new home. She likes the "lively" atmosphere and lots of things to do at Myrtle Beach. We have spent a lot of time there over the years. Would you say Ocean Springs is anything like Myrtle? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? I will probably take a drive down there this spring/summer. Just doing a little preliminary research right now. :)

@@TreesOnTheBeach I have never been to Myrtle beach, so I can’t say from experience. It looks beautiful from pictures though. It kind of reminds me more of Pensacola. If you ever come this way let me know!

@@youngbuck3148 The town is cute and it offers very affordable living. It’s definitely a different culture to get used to though. Customer service isn’t really a thing here and if you really need any contractors, no one ever shows up so you learn how to DIY quite quickly. I’ll give it to the end of the year to see if it’ll work out.

@@goodlight42day Oh I think it’s absolutely adorable here. I’m enjoying it so far. The only real cons are the lack of shopping options and trying to find reputable contractors. I came from the DFW area though. Although I miss places like Nordstrom, Trader Joe’s, and Ikea, I shouldn’t really expect options like that here. And as far as my negative experiences with contractors here, it’s just made me become a much better DIY’er. 🤗 Being within 10 minutes of two beaches makes all of that tolerable.

We are looking to move to ocean springs here soon!! What parts are not flood zone and are family friendly? I heard you are a realtor so I would love to connect!

Absolutely there are many different areas in Ocean Springs. It depends on proximity to water and the elevation. I just got a house under contract a block from the beach and it was not in a flood zone! The entire area is family friendly! Excellent school district and a very cute and quaint downtown area. What's employment like in Ocean Springs

Waveland Police Sgt. Joseph Joffrion has this to say about Mississippi as he violated someone's civil rights a couple of weeks ago. "This isn't some free will state, man, this is how it is in the state of Mississippi." The same man had his rights violated in Ocean Springs in the same week by different officers, but Sgt Joffrion was kind enough to tell the US about civil rights in Mississippi. The man was treated no better in Ocean Springs. Gautier was very nice to the man, who was simply standing on the sidewalk holding a sign that said "God Bless the Homeless Veterans."

How is the health care there for those moving there to work into retirement? Also does MS tax social security or pensions?

Hello so sorry I’m just seeing this comment. Mississippi exempts all forms of retirement income from taxation, including Social Security benefits, income from an IRA, income from a 401(k) and any pension income.

I looked at a small piece of property just past the bridge it was 75 by 100 with an old rotten 1000 SQ ft home the house looked like it should be knocked down and they wanted $390,000 I said yeah right are you kidding ocean springs is nice but not that nice

Add 200 for your AC bill on whatever rent you have, and enjoy the fiber Internet!

The coast is very welcoming! The racism is honestly just a stereotype. I’m sure a long time ago it existed in the area but the coast is not a racist area.

I’m gonna sound really based when I say this, but how does this city treat people of LGBT? I’m 16 and I live in a homophobic household in texas and I plan on moving here with my boyfriend when I’m older.

I have been thinking about MS. Like anything else I want a safe place with golf and not getting robbed and killed. MS has such a bad reputation for crime. I want to be proven wrong.

There are some areas of the state that you will likely want to avoid. However, I moved to Oxford back in 2021, and it's exceeded my expectations for quality of life... and safety. Another plus is that there's no hurricanes here in North Mississippi!

Mississippi and Louisiana are at the bottom of most list for good life indicators, top for worst. Ocean Springs police have not looked good on Internet encounters. See Honor your oath video.

What are the voting stats in this area and how is the LGBTQ community received? I'm in San Francisco now and while I don't expect anywhere else to be like San Francisco lol, I'm curious to know those variables. Mississippi has a poor reputation for tolerance and progressive thinking. Thanks for your input.
