Moving to Norway Part 1 - The Journey Begins

Part 1 of the journey to Norway. I am moving to Bergen Norway to go to school. It is a huge change that impacts every facet of my life. This is the start of that journey, the backstory of some of the challenges and obstacles we faced when when we decided to move from Seattle to Bergen during a pandemic.

I don't know what it is, but the country of Norway has always attracted me all my life. I hope to live there one day and be happy there. in my own country in the Netherlands I will never be really happy, it is so much too busy here and you will not find peace anywhere

I did the same I'm from the uk and I also moved to Norway. I visited some online friends in 2007 for the first time In northern Norway Harstad. It was amazing I spent so much time outside Instead of inside gaming with them. I first tried to moved to Bergen in 2009 but it didn't have the same for me as Harstad did so I moved back to the uk after 6 months. In 2010 summertime i got a offer from my friend in Harstad to moved up there so I took the room and car he offered me. I have been here now this year 12 years and I love it. I have my education I'm a qualified Kindergarden worker and Have my own family and house. Its not been easy at all but so worth it.

I just discovered you Channel and I was glad I did. Being an elder retired American I too am interested in moving to Norway and your videos had a wealth of information for me to consider. For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with Norway. Three years ago I met someone on the Internet and we have been conversing via Skype ever since. He invited me to visit him at his home in Tromsø. As I age I am finding the extreme Californian heat and threats of wild fires daunting. Visiting Tromsø for two weeks in March 2022, I was hooked! I will return and investigate my moving there. Thanks for sharing-

It's touching, and also sad you will have to leave your family. It is also one of the biggest dreams i have to move to Norway too. I'm almost seventeen and I've wanted to live in Norway since late 2020 when i was 15. I know the road will be tough and it will be a nightmare to save enough money to buy a cabin and live perhaps on a fjord but I'm willing. I'm most concerned about leaving my family though. I lost three precious members of my family in 2020 My father, my grandmother and my great grandmother all coincidentally from different causes though since they're gone i feel so terrible thinking that i could possibly be leaving the small amount of people that i still have. To be honest i don't even know if i have it in me to leave them behind to go to Norway. If i stay where I am my life could be so dull and i wouldn't know what to do because i just can't imagine staying here forever. But then I'm afraid if i go to Norway leaving my family might make me feel like i abandoned them and it would probably make me just feel a wave of depression and guilt. I also live in Washington by the way.

  • @TheStoryGuide

The go-to website for rentals (and most everything else) in Norway is Finn.no. If you use Chrome you can set the auto-translate feature to convert the Norsk to English and make the site a little easier to navigate. Renting in Norway can be a daunting process, but I found good information about it on the Life in Norway website. Do a search for "renting in Norway" and you should find a few articles to help you frame your journey. Best of luck! And welcome to Norway.

Welcome to Norway! If the winter gets cold, you should either search KZread for how to dress properly against cold, or just ask a Norwegian. edit. Basically dress in 3 layers. Use wollen against your body and the middle layer. 1-2 layers of socks. Hat and "votter". Votter on your hands is better than five finger gloves because five finger gloves isolate your finger. Votter on the other hand makes your fingers take body heat from eachothers.

  • @TheStoryGuide

Great advice. Thank you. I learned early one the solid advice about bad weather v. bad clothing. I do prefer the Votter to gloves, but I always have a camera and wearing them is problematic. But I have special gloves for cold weather shooting that seem to do the trick. The good news is here in Bergen I should not have face the type of weather I would face in a place like Tromsø. :) Thanks for watching.
