I have been living in London for about 11 years, moved here for uni and never left. I remember meeting another Italian guy at the airport when as we were both going home for my first Summer break and we talked about how much we were loving life in London. He told me about his life, and then I told him about mine - like, school, friends, hobbies, and what I loved about the city. He looked at me and said, “wow, can you believe we have been living in the same city and lived completely different lives?”. That stayed with me, this is what I adore about London and what has made me feel at home from day one. It’s a city that can be built around your own individual experience and be the place you want it to be. And it’s such a single-friendly city as well. For this guy was a great place to go clubbing and watching games at the pub with the neighbourhood, for me it was the ultimate fangirl dream where I could spend hours queuing for theatre tickets or go to fandom meet-ups. Of course, I wish everyone would love London as much as I do, but realistically, my best wish and advice is to get the best out of it while you’re there and don’t be afraid to move on when you’re done with it. It can be big and overwhelming for some (lots of people I know were emotionally exhausted after just a few years and moved somewhere else) or cozy and familiar to some (I am much more drained when I have to be in my hometown for a while and I just feel out of place all the time), it is a really unique place. The best way to have a good experience and form a good bond with the city, in my experience, is to truly follow what you love, you will find so many events, courses, meet-ups, and occasions that cover pretty much any hobby/passion you might have, the chances to meet very interesting people are high! Of course school/your workplace are still the places where you will meet more people on a regular basis, but most of the time you just make friends in completely random situations. But honestly, my favourite thing is how much I can take care of myself and have quality me-time. I am only sorry to see how the prices are going crazy, it has never been cheap but lately, it’s getting insane ☹ Anyway, I love listening to other people’s experiences with London, so thanks for sharing yours! Also, totally with you regarding the “vibe” of your area, sometimes you just get a good vibe from an area and other people won’t necessarily get it. I have lived mostly in South London and I love it, but some of my friends would never live there lol And Monzo is awesome! I love the logos and the overall transparency, like you said. All the best for your future plans ☺

I’ve lived in London for uni and for my grad job, and I completely get the point about it being busy but Lonely. I’ve always described this to people as saying I feel insignificant. It’s so big and busy, I feel so small. But I love it here, and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else 😊

Single glazing?! Good luck and get some onesies - life saver when I was living in my uni house with single glazed windows and was trying to reduce how much the heating was on! Admittedly it was a COLD winter, and surprised I didn’t get ill.

I found out today that I have been accepted for a position in London starting early January so I will be relocating from Birmingham! Stressing as I have no clue how I will get everything done when it’s essentially Christmas now (and the train strikes) but hoping this vid will ease my stress a tad

I fully get this, I’ve just moved from Birmingham to London myself and it is so lonely at times! But it is amazing there is no city like it

Well done, hope you're enjoying London. How did you manage the logistics of moving? I'm thinking I'll just have to get on a train with a suitcase and that'll be it.

I'm not moving to London so in theory this video is not relevant to me at all but yet exactly what I needed after a shitty day 😂 But I've just a couple of days ago talked to my family that making friends in a city has become so much more difficult. I'm not from the UK but my aunt is from London and she always talks abot London in the 70s and it sounds so different to my experience of it and also yours. But also here in Germany my mum moved city several times in her life and it honestly seemed so easy to find a group of people back then. Like at least where I live going to a pub and finding new friends there is just really not a thing anymore😅

ADVICE TO SAVE TRANSPORTATION COST: If you are comfortable with cycling, it is worth getting a Santander bike subscription. In 2021 it was 90 GBP per year, and if you are a student only 70 GBP. You can do as many 30min trip as you like every day. Definetly look into helmets, and reflecting clothes if you cycle at night. I lived in London vor 6 months and only took the tube a handful of times. Also, busses charge 1.50 GBP per ride so they are a lot more predictable than the tube!

it is 1.65 for buses now because of the inflation, not much of a difference but the price has changed.

I'm settled up north but still found the video really interesting. One question I did have about your move and such was how you are finding filming KZread videos when sharing a one bedroom flat with your partner? may not be very different when you were at home or uni but just curious :)
