The Morrison Holiday Bar is the shit. I've lived in Lakewood since 2008 (mainly Wadsworth, recently Kipling) and love the shout out. The popcorn maker by the pool tables. Genius.

Is there many salons. My wife is a barber and looking to move to this state. Mains things looking for is safety (no crime), steady buisness , and of course natural beauty which isthe main thing why were looking to move. My personal main concern is the safety like i said above. But if we could find a good place to move here with all those things i mentioned. That would be great. Side note: looking to rent an apartment for around the 1-1.5k range 1 bedroom.

There are a lot of salons through Denver and the suburbs, I have several friends in the field and they seem to like it. I think your price point for a 1 bedroom is reasonable -maybe $1250-$1500 - and put you in a neighborhood you can feel good about.

Lakewood or Highlands Ranch is what I’m considering. It’s a tough decision

Residents are pushing back against that, it's still being worked out - it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Lakewood, CO is the dirtiest part of the state. Belmar is where all the Cali people tend to move into and they should take their high cost of living back home with them. You won't see any new construction for anything until all the old buildings along Alameda and Colfax get demolished. The streets around Lakewood Highscool on Kipling are littered with homeless. The rec centers have been destroyed. The only thing in all of Lakewood that is good, is RRCC, but that's technically Golden. And so is Colorado Mills mall, which is infinitely better than Belmar.

Kirk, I’ve lived in Lakewood the majority of my life and I disagree with you. The town is massive geographically, so there are areas less desirable than others, but all up and down Wadsworth, Kipling and Union/Simms are well liked neighborhoods people enjoy living in. Colorado Mills and Belmar are two very distinctly different areas, one is an actual mall, and Belmar is an actual living community with the walking mall. You won’t see a lot of new construction in Lakewood, because of the 1% rule, but go down to the art district on West Colfax in Lakewood, and look at all the new construction and homes that were built there. Still work to be done as always, but Lakewood has come a long ways.

@Destination: Denver Colorado you're acting like I haven't lived in Lakewood my entire life. Sure it's big geographically, but unless you have money and live over in one of the houses in the Green Mountain area, you're surrounded by slums and homeless. What construction of homes do you speak of? Every building on Colfax is abandoned and needs to be torn down. They still have that entire Sears and Kmart shopping center for the most part abandoned too. No businesses can survive there. And the second portion of that shopping center is only about 20 years old. All it is up and down Colfax in Lakewood is abandoned buildings where the city doesn't do anything about overgrowth. Are you seriously saying you don't see it? And I do get that Colorado Mills and Belmar are two completely different settings. Belmar is seriously just some yuppy mall that all the out of states flock to and live in. Everything is so mashed together and everyone lives on top of each other. It might be me but I still think the old Villa Italia mall that was where Belmar is now was way better than both the Mills and Belmar. I used to live in Belmar. Never again. Way to many drunk people walking home from the bars causing problems. It is where to move in your 20s I guess.

@Destination: Denver Colorado also, that plot of land on Colfax and Quail across the street from the King Soopers basically. That lot used to be a restaurant called Around-Da-Corner. Had great burgers. Been abandoned and overgrown for at least 20 years. I saw that the city finally got around to clearing the overgrowth on that lot for example. What the city should do with that lot is allow food trucks to set up shop and throw down some tables. But it won't happen for two reasons. 1) for years that was a homeless encampment where they broke down the fence and slept in the bushes and 2) they already have vacant buildings right next door that have been standing for years with no businesses in them. Instead that spot of land will probably be turned into a gas station because that's all that is being built.

I’m not debating your knowledge of Lakewood - the Colfax strip has been an issue my entire 45 year existence and then some, and I have no idea what or if the city will ever address it. Having said that - there is plenty to like about Lakewood as a whole and people thinking of moving there have a lot to consider.
