Introduction:
Born and raised in China, Pynchon never thought about leaving his home country before high school graduation. His fascination for the world "elsewhere" and a vague idea of self-discovery led him abroad initially, while his curiosity for anthropology studies landed him in Estonia.
The memoir narrated the story of a lost, young Chinese man's haphazard encounter with anthropology, the people in Estonia, and himself.

Welcome to Estonia! nr. 6. - try to say the word "hello" in estonian: "Tere" if you meet someone new. You will probably get it wrong, but you will get a big smile and excellent service, because we think it is a hard language to learn and anyone, at least trying to learn it, gets a big round of applause...from our inner selves.

when going some place it's always nice to learn how to say hello, please, thank you and goodbye. Most locals will appreciate the effort even if the conversation goes on in English.

I am from America, and I love my country but Estonia is one of the countries I have found to be a country that had been through a lot in a struggle to be free and stay free from those who do not want that,and no matter what I respect and stand behind Estonia,the Land,the People,the Music and the History, God Bless Estonia/Jumal Onnistagu Estonia.

Alberto L. Verdecia A. There are also taxi drivers, who take advantage of drunk partygoers by ripping them off. Though some drivers are upfront about charging extra for giving rides to drunk ppl. We also have Uber over here, and Taxify, which is a local company offering a similar service. If you go with a group of friends and take a car, then it's good to have a designated driver. Commuter transport in Tallinn is free to all who are officially registered in the city; but buses, trolleys, and trams will stop at around midnight.

I am planning to move to Tallinn from Houston, Texas. At first I wanted to live in Helsinki but it seems just to damn expensive and boring. I was wondering for some advice. I am a composer, Dj, performer etc and love the scene in Estonia. Also I am coming with money I have been saving for years and I plan to tour all around Europe and pay my fair share of taxes. Ethnic wise my mothers side is basically Russian, Ukrainian and eastern European. My dad side is mostly Nordic and Germanic plus I am a tall, white, blond and palled skin. I am planning to learn as much about the culture and language as possible. So basically I am asking anyone from Estonia or Tallinn in general would the people accept me?
@haanjamiis
4 жыл бұрын
Of course people will accept you. We might seem cold or calculating at first but really we are just honest with our feelings/manners. No “keep smiling”. We smile when we are happy. We laugh, something is really, I mean reaaaaly funny..otherwise we just smile. Don’t be discouraged about that. Don’t ask us “How do you do?”, unless you really want to know. Fking hate that phrase as a just courtesy phrase. Hi, hello, tere or tervist will do just fine..and it will save time for more constructive conversation:) Anyway I suggest you vist the islands Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. Seems like several estonian composers live or at least spend their summers there. If you like camping, then there are plenty of free camping sites around estonia. Just search for “rmk telkimisala” or rmk lõkkekoht in google maps.

@@haanjamiis In Texas every conversation starts with a How are you? How are you doing? Or ends with a mother saying bless your heart which basically means "fuck you" heh. Since I was a little kid I barely ever smiled in a picture so I think I will fit it. I talked to plenty of Finnish people and Estonians seem like a Eddie Murphy commercial when compared to a Finnish. Thanks though for the input.
My home is in Estonia And school is starting :(
Pynchon Woo Its Good That U Moved Do Estonia Cuz There Is Not Many Wars There Was 2-4
I as an estonian will welcome any immigrant who... No1 Is educated enough to understand our culture and our laws. No2 Is educated and smart enough to take part in our daily lives in same manner as we do. No3 Never starts demanding things from us in our country. No4 Never pushes their way of life or religion upon us. If you can do all of these things and then share your culture with us, then i have nothing against you. However if you come to our country and start demanding things....start telling us how the right way to live is. If ur lazy and live on welfare (not easy to do that here tho some do it) If you do all of these things then hell yeah...im a fuckin racist and im gonna kick you out of my home. I dont consider myself as a racist, but at some point national pride takes over if our country is under threat...i think that is basic human emotion for all societies. Modern day extreme liberal governments are too gentle on certain serious problems occurin in europe right now. Anyway peace out and good luck to all normal reasonable people who want to come live in Estonia.
@rockmcdwayne1710
6 жыл бұрын
Well we also have welfare handouts here, but these are low compared to some countries in the west. You are expected to find work at some point. If you lose your job you are provided government help for a limited time. General welfare, that some people live on here is rather low however. You get food stamps and government will pay your rent, but there are certain criterias you have to follow to be able to get it in the first place. I never lived on government welfare myself, but i have lost my job couple of times so the government support in that manner is really nice. It gives you time to find a job you actually like. That kind of welfare (not sure you can even call it welfare) doesnt last very long tho. Lenght of this kind of support depends of how long did you work before you lost your job and how big was ur salary. General welfare for the poor people is so tiny tho, i dont see how anyone could live on it anyway tbh. Guess its only there to prevent some folks for going homeless and starving to death.
