This is so surprising to me, we live in Paraguay and there are quite some species of fairly large ants, have you ever seen any leaf cutter ants in Argentina? I am currently looking for an identification on a beautiful colony that lives in our garden. They look like Golden tailed spiny ants but that makes no sense because they live in Asia, according to my little research. Identifying ants is pretty hard I have to step up my ant game :-)

I have two new colonies of leaf cutters but they are nowhere near that big, maybe the queen can be as big as this workers. But maybe there are here and i'm not aware, i'm quite new in the hobby but i'm eager to keep learning about it and step up my ant game as you said :)@@DailyDoseOfNature8

Hi, it's amazing to see that on the other side of the world someone else is doing the same breeding. I also have these girls in a nest that I created and which I also show on video. I'm not a fan of the connecting pipe that "blocks" the Myrmecias' inlet outlet (the species makes large inlets) and not a fan either of a sponge system for moistening (I find it quite hard to use, I'm not saying it's a bad thing :) ) On the other hand, with all your larvae, you were right to offer them a large nest, otherwise you would have had disabled ants or dead ants in the cocoons, because of the crowded cocoons. I've just subscribed ;) and I'm going to follow the progress of your colony (at home I have a colony and a foundation, my channel is in French, but if you want to have a look ;) )

Great setup! I'm thinking about culturing some fungus termites and thinking this type of setup might work? Would you have any leads on termite keepers in the U.S?

If you start a new colony, I would suggest simply connecting the new nest to your starter. The ants should move in, leaving the outworld pretty much empty. If they're going slow, cover the nest so it's dark, or place a sheet if red plastic on top of it. I'm not saying you did it wrong, just that there are other ways. You are learning, keep learning.👍

Myrmecia is definitely not a beginner species in my opinion as they can bit and sting. I would suggest Pheidole, Nylanderia and camponotus if you're new!

i think the entrance is a bit small for them
