    When you use a hammer on a 140 year old firearm, it’s restoration. When I use a hammer on any firearm it’s annihilation. Love your content my friend. Please don’t stop posting. 👍🇺🇸🍻

    Sometimes I catch myself going back to brute force. It worked for the realignment of my fridge door. Worked on a bent akm receiver. Don’t want to be the guy holding the hammer when it doesn’t work. Thanks for the tips and great videos!

    I have recently purchased an A. Martin .45 cal. Gentlemans' travelling pistol circa 1850 that has some damage similar to the gun in this video. I was thinking that I would do exactly what you demonstrate here rather than just filing. It was gratifying to see that my intuition was correct. Now I feel much more emboldened to make the repair. THANK you!

    In the mid 80's , with my GI Bill , I went from gunsmithing to band instrument repair , for reasons I won't mention here !!! But , what you are showing , with moving metal gently & with finesse , using a small hammer , is done all of the time , with brass wind horns on nonferrous metals !!! & it has nothing to do with how hard you hit it , but more how many times & with finesse !!! A quality job in minor restoration can be had !!!

    I see this all the time with old hand tools and such, people always just jump straight to the abrasives before trying to put the metal back into place first. It's still there, why not try to put it back? If it's not too hard of a material at least, I understand it's not as doable on a much harder material.

  • @GigAnonymous

    @GigAnonymous

    Harder material would shear before deforming that much anyway... if it could move one way, you can always push it back the other way.

    This looks like it would work on a screwhead. My bolt on my no1mk3 has the screw tightened so damn much it doesnt want to come out. It looks like its spreading apart and maybe thats why it doesnt turn, it needs to get back to original shape. What would you do in this situation. I dont want to order another bolt. Maybe break away or something?

    My screw head on my no1mk3 bolt doesnt turn anymore , its just stuck and doesnt rotate out and when i try it doesnt move. The head looks abit out of shape and im wondering if a hammering and a filing can get the screwhead back to normal looking , then maybe it will come out.

    I have no idea what I'm talking about to be honest, but it seems to me that it would have been better to reverse the order of the first two operations - hammer from the butt first and then from the side, otherwise It kind of looks as if you have hammered that lip you've created into a piece of foil and just folded it over the grip butt. Maybe it's just the lighting though.
