The terrorist attack presented in the first scene of the episode occurred in real life, it was the bomb attack against Korean Air flight 858 (South Korean airline) and occurred on November 29, 1987. Two North Korean Intelligence agents, pretending to be passengers, they left the bomb inside the plane flying from Iraq to South Korea, and got off the plane on a stopover in Abu Dhabi, and the plane exploded over the sea before reaching the next stopover in Thailand. All occupants, passengers and crew died, 115 people in total, all but two people were South Koreans. The mission in which double agents are assassinated at a banquet, in which Bong-seok's mother intentionally failed, to save several, occurred in a region of China near Korea where a significant minority of ethnic Koreans with Chinese citizenship live. I love your reactions, you do a great job, very emotional and intelligent. And you can fasten your seatbelts because now the most intense and exciting part of the story begins.

Well said. I was in same choir group with Han-moe(9th grader) and Jan-dee(6th grader), a brother and sister who lost their father who was a pilot of that plane. It was not only tragic but infuriating incident that Korean government is still covering the facts until this date. It makes me think a lot that Kang Full, the writer of the show who was 7th grader at that time included this incident in his work. Very unique.

Perfect historical review. Great reaction, Summer is right in her intuition, regarding the Director and his agenda. Syntell is right about the actress, she is one of South Korea's best, she has worked more in film than in TV shows (at least in the last decade), but in both movies and television series does extraordinary and very versatile works. A notable fact for the American public is that she was part of the international cast of the 2019 series Treadstone, which was part of the fictional universe of the Bourne saga, and in that story she played a sleeper agent (like Jason Bourne) but in her case she was a North Korean citizen initially activated to commit a murder in North Korea, but ends up having to fight to save her young son's life (also a protective mother role). She also starred in a Korean zombie series called Happiness, very good, in which she played a cop on an SWAT team.

I'd like to point out the context lost in translation. Juwon and Mihyeon don't actually call each other "girl" and "boy" in Korean. There are informal language and formal language in Korean. Using informal language to someone older, seniority status, or higher rank than you is considered very rude. Juwon used informal language to Mihyun because she's a lot younger than him. Juwon got upset when Mihyun used informal language back to him because he's a lot older. Juwon calls Doosik "boss" in translation, but what he actually says is "sunbae," which is a honorific used for someone that is your senior in an organization or school. He also uses formal language to Doosik all the time. This is why he tells Mihyeon, "I use formal language to Doosik because he's my senior despite him being younger. But you? You should be using formal language to me." Mihyeon explained to him that she was his senior because she joined the organization much earlier than he did despite being 8 years younger.

The parents are portrayed by some of the best actors/actresses in SK who have been active in their entertainment industry for almost 2 decades. They are all A-listers and they rarely do dramas (since they mostly do movies) and the actress who's playing Bong Seok's mom is a critically acclaimed actress in SK. She has won so many awards and is such a versatile actress. In this drama in particular like you all pointed out she nailed so many different roles (as a mother, an agent and a young woman in love). She's just 11 years older than the actor who's playing the character of her son but still managed to nail the role as a mother.

Jo In-sung (Kim Doosik actor) appear more frequently in blockbuster action movies than dramas and his recent movies are the highest grossings by year like Escape from Mogadishu, Smugglers. I really recommend his other critically acclaimed movie The King. Ryu Seungryong (Juwon actor) is very popular in movies Extreme Job and Miracle in Cell no. 7, he's already nominated for his role in Moving.

22:38 Yes, Syntell's got it right. Doosik, codename Eagle, was stationed outside to keep an eye on the mission and make sure none of their targets got away. But after witnessing Mihyun purposely throw the flash grenade to let some of the targets out, Doosik chose to take her side and follow suit. That mission did in fact turn inhumane -- only a portion of the people in that room were double agents but that asshole in charge decided to just kill everybody to be 100% sure.

Mi-Hyun’s boss the older woman was actually dismissive of the other women. She is trying to curry favor with Director Min that’s why she feels threatened by Mi-Hyun. She was also looking down on the secretary. Director Min is not a good guy because he didn’t care that the retired agents were killed only why they were killed. Namsan Donkatsu the restaurant where they were having dinner in was replicated by Mi-Hyun. She also named her restaurant Namsan Donkatsu. Bong-Seok gets his personality from his father. The awkwardness around the girl he likes :)

It indicates that Doosik already knew that Mihyun was assigned to spy on him, ordered by Min, the boss. P.s. When you say you're ready for the heartbreak, you DEFINITELY should be ready🤐😢

The beginning scene of the episode is supposed to be Korean Air Flight 858. It was a flight between Baghdad and Seoul that exploded on Nov 29 1987 in mid-air by a bomb put in by North Korean agents . A total of 135 passengers and crew members were killed that day. The cool thing about Moving is that there are several Easter eggs in various places throughout the series that relate to actual events that occurred in Korea.

Exactly like the summit between the two Koreas in 2018 (which led to the Panmunjom declaration), mainly focused on the denuclearization of the peninsula and the beginning of the procedure to end the war between the two Koreas, also the air attack seen at the beginning episode is a historical fact that actually happened: it concerns Korean Air flight 858 which, as seen, exploded over the Andaman Sea due to a bomb attack on board the Boeing 707-3B5C in 1987. The attack was orchestrated by two agents North Koreans, Kim Sung-il and Kim Hyon-hi, by order of their government. The reason is to be found in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, something that North Korea wanted to prevent with the attack, which however did not discourage the Olympic committee. Yanbian is a Korean autonomous prefecture located in the eastern part of Jilin Province, China, and is close to the North Korean border and Russia. In the prefecture most of the inhabitants are of Korean origin, from the North (which is why when they spoke there were subtitles, due to the different dialect from that of the South), so in the province there were many informants for the government South Korean. The mission seen in the episode had the aim of unmasking the double-dealing spies and eliminating them, however Ma Sang-Gu, the head of the operation, was not sure who the traitor spies were, so to avoid taking risks he eliminated them all, regardless of who the traitors were or not. Ma Sang-Gu is a sadist who hides his propensities behind fanatical patriotism. Lee Mi-Hyun at the time was on her first field mission, which, if it had gone well, would have made her a full-fledged agent, to the disappointment of Sang-gu who sees women only as good for bringing coffee for the boss (it must be said that at the time women in Korea did not have the same career opportunities as today. Same old story). However, Mi-hyun, seeing that massacre as unjustified, failed to carry out her duty and actually pretended to accidentally take a stun grenade instead of a tear gas canister to get the survivors out. At the beginning of the episode we are told that Mi-hyun has damaged eyes, probably due to the grenade mentioned above, but in reality we see that she faked this illness, because we see that she protects them and immediately after shoots the lock of the door with the superhuman precision with which it is equipped. We know that Kim Doo-sik was the reinforcement of the mission mentioned above, but that he did not intervene because he was struck by Mi-hyun's humanity in the face of that horrible spectacle, which gives us further proof of Mi-hyun's humanity Doo-sik, in addition to the failed attempt to save the plane at the beginning of the episode. In addition to this, when Doo-sik confesses that he fell in love with Mi-hyun as soon as he saw her, the viewer thinks he is referring to when he first saw her in the elevator, but in reality, as we have seen, he l 'he saw her two years earlier in the failed mission and that's the moment he fell in love with her; this is also the reason why, when he sees her for the first time in the elevator, he stares at her intensely, because he had recognized her and had guessed that her presence there was not a coincidence (apart from having noticed that the documents she was carrying they were always the same. You probably didn't connect: Mi-hyun has a restaurant specializing in Namsan Donkatsu. In the episode we see that it is Kim Doo-sik who first takes Mi-hyun to Namsan to eat donkatsu, with the same King portion that she prepares for Bong-seok, adding that the place would soon become famous for donkatsu ( which has historically happened and which, due to the popularity of the show, is leading many people to rediscover the nineties donkatsu of Namsan). Besides that, when we see Mi-hyun's apartment, we see that it features the color purple, especially her curtains. This ties in with the fact that the roof of Mi-hyun's restaurant house is painted purple and before that, when Bong-seok was little, the place they rented, Mi-huyn had decorated with a purple awning. These elements give us important information: Mi-huyn still hopes to find Doo-sik and to do so she has made sure that the roof is purple and that her shop has a huge and bright Namsan Donkatsu sign; this element together are like a bat-signal to Kim Doo-sik if he ever flies into that area and looks down. This also tells us that she has no idea what happened to Doo-sik in the present, but that she still hopes to see him again. Besides this we learn Jang Ju-won, Hui-soo's father, was Doo-sik's partner when they worked at NIS and that he knows Mi-hyun well and this tells us that perhaps, in the present, when Mi-hyun investigates the murder at the beauty salon, catches a glimpse of Ju-won and that she may have recognized him. The subtitles are a bit confusing, however the scene in the elevator, when Mi-hyun addresses Ju-won informally, he gets annoyed because usually younger people don't informally address older people , to his sunbae. Mi-hyun corrects him, however, because if it is true that he is older than her, she graduated from the academy years before him, which makes Mi-hyun Ju-won's sunbae and him her hoobae she. Furthermore, in the subtitles Ju-won calls the Boss to Doo-sik, but in reality he calls the sunbae, i.e. the colleague who is more expert than him. In case it wasn't clear, Min Yong-Jun made Doo-sik and Ju-won come over often so that Mi-hyun could succeed in her mission. Yeo Woon-Kyu is not at all protective of Mi-hyun, in fact she is annoyed by her because she was chosen over her, even though she is younger and less experienced than her. Little side note: what Mi-hyun sees from her window every morning is Seoul Tower, also called Namsan Tower, located in Mount Namsan.

15:49 Doosik said "민사장, 있죠?" In the ep, translated to 'It's Min, right?' Which is pretty wrong translation tbh. It's more like 'It's Director Min, isn't it?' Smth like that. He only said his last name + his status, which is '사장' (Sajang) means smth like boss or someone who own smth and give order. Which the more correct translation on this would be 'Director' bc he's the head of this program. So yeah, the translation is pretty dooky here🙁🫤

27:18 The reason for the director of NIS to have Doosik (Bongseok's dad) to be psychologically profiled by another agent Mihyun (Bongseok's mom) only becomes obvious when you realize at the end that Doosik let the communist double agents go in the failed operation. When the NIS director initally tells Mihyun to get close to Doosik and profile him, he specifically asks her to check for Doosik's "philosophical views".. This was an unfortunate English mistranslation as the director actually asks her to check for Doosik's "ideological stance", which makes his intention a lot clearer in the context of Cold War and the McCarthyan measures that were often taken in the 80s.

In episodes 8 and 9, dialogue is very important. If you don't focus on the dialogue, you'll miss most of the fun of episodes 8 and 9, and you won't feel the dramatic fun in the parts that connect to later episodes. In that respect, this reaction was too distracting.

We try our best to keep up with as much as we can. Reading the captions, processing the scenes, and keeping a mindful dialogue all in real time can be a bit tricky at times. Some things will be missed from time to time. However, I believe the spirit of having fun with the amazing content is the most important part of a reaction channel.

15:58 No, you actually got that wrong. The "Min" he was talking about was their chief, Min Young-Jun, implying that he already knew that Mi-Hyun approached him following their bosses orders. It was like "So was Min Young-Jun that put you on this mission, right?" The thing is from the start Mi-Hyun wasn't confortable with the idea of being used to seduce another agent, and it was also stablished that she was one of the best agents, being the youngest to graduate and all. So it's not so farfetched to assume that she was always carrying the same files to actually fail her mission on purpose without being too obvious about it. That's why later on Mi-Hyun and Doo-Sik have that dialogue about a "proposital failure is not actually a failure". But while at that time she thought that they were talking about her current mission of seducing Doo-Sik, the big plot twist of the episode was the reveal that Doo-Sik was actually talking about the "Seagull-Eagle" mission, where he saw her for the first time without her knowing that he was also there, witnessing her "treason".

You're reading too much into the sexism at the workplace thing. Korea is not like america and so are their shows and movies. While they do sometimes address the sexism thing, they do it more subtly and not thumb it in their male audience noses. Not like in American shows where witters now do their best to denigrate men. And bongseoks mom is not written as a Mary sue. I love that about korean shows, which is why I can no longer watch anything coming out of the US. Juwon assumed she was lower ranked because she was lugging files all over the place like a secretary.
