A lot of people seem to misunderstand the story here. Samara was not abused by the Morgans. Samara was relentlessly tormenting them with her nightmarish images day and night. She ruined their lives by driving their horses insane and making them commit suicide. None of us would have been able to endure having to live a constant nightmare with a psychic killer demon-child

You're just as pathetic as the "demon" you despsie. And I have to admit, challenging as it is internally, if I had to choose between killing the likes of them to prevent more destruction and sparing her for more destruction, I would take the one life if it means saving many. Once you look deep enough, you really feel bad for her. She's got great psychic powers that can do serious damage, but she never learned how to control it, so it controlled her. She never intended to kill people but she knew she was going to because she didn't know how to make it stop. Can't imagine what she was going through in the psych ward, and in her family life.

The Story: It’s about this girl named Samara. She got possessed by a spirit. The Dad was afraid of her so she didn’t let her go to school. But the mother still loves her even though she’s evil. But when Samara was at the hospital, the dad told the mother to kill her. So while Samara was singing to herself. The mother pushed her down a well. But she still loved her. When Samara died, Samaras spirit took her revenge. So she has been killing people the whole time. Edit 2: I found the real story on google,thanks to all of you for correcting me! Samara was born to a woman named Evelyn. Her father was a priest named Burke who held Evelyn captive in the dungeon of a church. He raped Evelyn when she was eight months pregnant and she fled to a hospital run by nuns. After struggling with the pain of childbirth, she gave birth to Samara but found that her baby would not cry. Samara apparently told her that a demon was born inside her and the only way to be rid of it was to drown her in a pond outside. Whether or not this was Evelyn's own psyche or Samara's powers telling her to do this remains unknown. A nun spotted Evelyn attempting to drown Samara and led a group of nuns to stop her. Samara was to be adopted all the while Evelyn was to be sent to a mental home. Samara in the Eola County Psychiatric Facility Samara was eventually adopted by Anna and Richard Morgan and taken to live on their horse ranch on Moesko Island. However, as she grew older, Samara's powers began to develop and grow, unintentionally frightening her parents by burning images into their minds. The island's doctor sent them to Eola County Psychiatric Hospital for treatment. Anna was treated for depression and suicidal thoughts, whilst Samara was treated differently, examined and observed for hours on end. She displayed her psionic powers by burning images on transparency materials and film. Doctor Scott interviewed Samara who responded that Richard plans to leave her in the hospital. Doctor Scott eventually died, likely killed by Samara's powers. On the contrary, Richard eventually had Anna and Samara discharged and took them back to the ranch. To prevent Samara from harming anyone, Richard moved her into the ranch's barn, turning the top floor into her isolated bedroom with a ladder as the only means of access. Left alone, Samara had only a television set for company. She also burnt an image of a tree onto a wall, hidden behind wallpaper. Samara was awaken at night by the ranch horses. Out of anger and jealously, Samara mentally attacked the horses with her psionic powers. The horses went insane and committed suicide by jumping over a cliff, their corpses found on a beach below. At least twenty-seven horses died, and the newspapers called it an epidemic. Anna was overcome with grief by the deaths and was sent back to the psychiatric facility for several days. The ranch was walled in for five weeks by health experts, but they could not find any source of the deaths, unaware of Samara's presence. Samara and Anna moments before Samara is pushed down the well. Anna was released from the hospital five days later. To escape the chaos, the family visited Shelter Mountain Inn. Anna revealed ulterior motives for going to the mountain. One sunny day, Samara stood before an old stone well admiring a tree on a hilltop when Anna appeared behind her, commenting on how peaceful the place was. She suddenly produced a black plastic garbage bag and suffocated Samara with it and then knocked her out with a rock. Apologizing to Samara, Anna pushed her down into the well. Recovering quickly, Samara awoke to witness Anna sealing her in the well. Anna committed suicide moments later by jumping off a cliff. It is unknown if Richard was aware that Anna planned to kill Samara but returned to the ranch alone. Samara spent the next seven days trying to escape the well by scaling the walls, only to fail and break off her nails and fingertips in the process. She eventually drowned on the seventh day. However, her spirit lingered on, longing for help and attention. A set of rental cabins were built around the area, Cabin 12 built on top of the well. With a television and a VCR set placed right above the well, Samara managed to transfer her nensha abilities and likely her own spirit into a blank video cassette, creating the curse of the video tape.

Creepy. I never realized what Samara is singing. I just Googled Samara Quotes and here's what she's singing: Samara: [singing by the well] : Here we go, the world is spinning. When it stops, it's just beginning. Sun comes up, we all laugh. Sun goes down, we all die...

This scene, when observed deeply, the doctor is holding onto fluoroscopy, which is similar to what is used in a VHS tape. The doctor has a camera behind him facing Samara, with a television on the desk to monitor the recording. Why is this so? Because Samara was “burning” or somehow putting images onto these types of objects including in her mothers head. So they were studying her, to see what could happen if they questioned her, and see if she was to perform these actions in front of her, and explain these images she created in the doctors hand. In conclusion, my theory is it might be possible that the cursed tape was actually created by Samara in the hospital, even though some scenes in the tape show future events. This could mean Samara planned for everything that happened to her, such as her mother pushing her down the well then committing suicide. This would explain why the tape was at shelter mountain inn. The Morgan’s had rights to view the tape and took it with them to shelter mountain, and clearly this lead to Anna murdering Samara shortly before committing suicide.

I think it’s the clothes that she’s wearing, they have that type of style. Kind of like vintage. Because just like now ppl buy vintage clothes that look like they’re from the early 1900s or 1800s back in the 70s and 80s when this is supposed to be taking place also bought clothes like this bc it’s a trend. One of my favorite subtleties in this scene (that they don't show in this video) is before Rachel watched this video, she notices a centipede on the file and it has the jump scare music with it. My neighbor had a house from 1850 and it’s got a well like this in the basement. And the upstairs has something going on. Twice now the cabinets were found all open in the upstairs kitchen. Last night someone kept knocking at the upstairs balcony door. The neighbor also said he’s seen eyes. I can’t remember, but I think previous neighbors said something similar about upstairs.

So Samara’s full backstory is that her mother was graped by a priest, and then held captive until she carried to full-term, after that Samara was adopted out to the Morgans, but from the moment she was conceived from the moment her mind started to develop it was a seed of hate, she wasn’t some misunderstood victim. She was the monster in the closet. When her mother realized that, she did what she could to try and stop it, but still carried the guilt of killing a child that one was unavoidable . What she didn’t understand was that in killing Samara she didn’t stop her evil. She set it free from the physical body that held it in place.

I think people sometimes deliberately don't consider just to not listen to have something to laugh on the inside about because of understanding. Some people live in denial of other people's bullshit while others are in denial that they're causing the bullshit, probably because of trying not to cause the bullshit to have to care about then they get bent out of shape about having to care about the bullshit and other people just make sure that they don't lose a friend and handle the burden just to not explain because then they'd be saying something that the other people don't know to other people who don't know consciously because the subconscious mirrors the conscious especially when contradicted (frustration.) watching this movie an a 12 y.o gave me nightmares for weeks

The tape, plus her death really hurts too much for me to watch. I understand that Samara never sleeps and she won’t stop killing, but what if there was a way to try to help her see good in others and there’s still some good people that knows about her story and wants her to be at peace and not hurt anyone else. In the second movie, she wanted to be a child again and went after Rachel’s son. The reason why was after Rachel found her body in the well, Samara’s spirit became attached and wanted Rachel as a mother instead and she wanted a do over at life. If she was reborn as an infant again, she would probably be happy, but her power, not being able to sleep at night and her fear of water makes it hard to raise her right so I kind of don’t blame everyone for what she did. But yeah, those are my thoughts and why I see different from others.

My family is horrible so I have long silky straight black hair and when I don’t brush it when I’m at home my hair usually does what it wants and that usually means that my hair is in my face because it doesn’t know how to stay away from my face unless a headband is physically holding it back or unless I have my hair done which I never do unless I go to school or if I go out anyways sometimes I want to go to the bathroom at midnight and I don’t know what people are doing up at midnight but one day my mom was using the bathroom when I got up to go so I waited for her outside the bathroom she comes out and her mouth drops open because I scared her because my hair was in my face and the lights were turned off and all she saw was black hair in front of her face as she was coming out the bathroom I scared her boyfriend the same way before I’ve also scared my aunt before so now whenever I’m at home doing nothing I stay in my pajamas all day long and I don’t do my hair because why I’m at home doing nothing there’s no need and my mom always tells me OK I get that we are at home and there’s no need to look presentable because you’re not going anywhere but at least put a headband on you look like samara Morgan her boyfriend has also told me this look it’s not my fault that my hair is so straight and thin that it does what it wants but sure I guess I’ll go get a headband so my hair is not in my face and so I don’t look like the girl from the ring

according to richard morgan and samara's biological mother, she wasn't supposed to live; her only purpose was to bring pain. samara knew that she was going to be killed and that's why she didn't resist when anna tried to suffocate her. she could torture more people in her true evil spirit form, so you're not supposed to have pity for her, although i can understand why you feel like that. i actually thought she was innocent for a long time before i rewatched the movie again and realized that samara is pure evil

@@holy-bagels My grandma would tell us that when she was about 3-4 years old (something like that) her older brother and sister would pick her up and sit her down on a tree branch high enough so she would be too scared to jump down, and they'd wait for the train to come by. They would take her down when they felt like it. I think I recall her saying they'd also put her ON the train, but she'd jump off. They were trying to get rid of her. I always thought her brother and sister were mean to do that to her (esp. because they did it to her more than once), but then when I think about how annoying and evil my grandma is sometimes I think that maybe they saw something in her at an early age that they wanted to stop. My grandma is like the living Samara. She's brought people a lot of hurt. As a kid she had the long black hair and pale skin just like her too. When they were adults her older sister insisted on wanting to go to the Sacramento river. So, they went there. My grandma's son was drowning. My grandma doesn't know how to swim. And, her sister that knew how to swim told her she was drinking too much to go in the water to try to save him. So, they all watched him drown and die. I always wonder if that was another smite attack at my grandma. I always noticed that my grandma had bad feelings toward that sister of hers. I didn't hate any of them. I didn't have bad feelings to my grandma's sister (or brother) that did that to her as a kid (& as a parent losing her kid). But, I always wonder what else kind of bad blood they had between them, and how deep it goes. Sometimes people we know are more evil than we can possibly imagine. Sometimes you don't have to go far to see or hear a horror show.
