Scott. The building to the right of the RKO Studios was where I worked from 1970-1973. It was KHJ. Radio and Television, channel 9. I worked on the radio side with THE REAL DON STEEL, ROBERT W. MORGAN IN THE MORNING, CHARLIE TUNA and so many others. I used to have lunch at the EL ADOBE often with REGIS PHILIN who had a show called TEMPO co staring RUTA LEE. It was basically the same show he did later with KATHY LEE. I lived at the Paramount Apartments on Van Ness for 6 months and used to walk right in front of the original Paramount gates every day. I was sorry to hear you say that the Valentino Building was going to be torn down. I remember wanting to rent an apartment there soon after getting the gig at KHJ. They had a waiting list of one year so I saved my money and moved to Newport Beach instead. Of course you know that THE NICKODEL LOUNGE was just to the right of KHJ. I have so many memories of being there with DON STEEL and sometimes with MARTIN LANDAU. What GREAT memories. Thanks Scott. Love your channel.

Patricia Medina Not a lot to tell. I met him through Peter Lupus, a friend, and we chatted and hit it off. He was a really nice guy, just as you might expect. I remember he took me to a party at Mike Connors’ house and he was almost the life of the party. He had so many stories. We all sang and laughed, it was a great time. He told me that night that one of his favorite life moments was when he applied to, I think he said, The Actors Studio. He told me that he really wanted it, but there were over 1000 applicants and he didn’t think he’d be accepted. He told me he was “On top of the world” when he was told he and one other actor had been accepted. BTW. The other actor accepted was Steve McQueen. I’m so happy I knew him, and still have to pinch myself that this nobody, me, got to meet and befriend so many celebrities of that era. I’ve had a great life! Thanks for asking, I enjoyed the trip through memory lane. Have fun.

@@henrygonzalez504 Thank you so much, Henry! What a wonderful anecdote. I've always liked Martin - he had such beautiful and intense eyes. I did indeed expect he was a nice guy. Imagine if you had photos to go with your recollections! You could write a book. Be well and happy.

Fun fact: Rose McGowan owns the RKO letters that used to be on the globe. I saw an episode of Million Dollar Listing LA a couple years ago (could've been last year) and they were auctioning off all the stuff in her house. The letters were mounted on a wall by her staircase if you want to look the episode up.

Thanks for some of the history of old Hollywood and RKO Studios Scott. For some reason at 57. I started to be fascinated with old Hollywood, RKO, Laurel Canyon, Sunset Boulevard, It is sad to see so much of Hollywood's history just disappearing. I live in Pa, And my only way to ever see Hollywood is by seeing videos like yours. For which I thank you. I wish I had the means to buy some of Hollywood's history like the RKO letters and other Hollywood memorabilia from being lost or destroyed and of course a few hundred acres of land to display it say like a Hollywood backlot for everyone to enjoy lol. Anyway, Scott. Thank you for keeping those Hollywood stories alive for all of us to enjoy.

Two Lucille Ball stories in my family. One, when my second oldest brother was a baby in the 1950s my mom was in an elevator with him going to a doctors appointment. Lucille Ball happened to be in the same elevator. She told my mom, “Your baby has such nice eyelashes”. I would have crapped my pants. My mom in typical fashion simply said, “Thank you”. The other occasion involved my second oldest brother - He was on the premier episode of the Danny Kaye Show. One of the dads on his little league team was a producer and they had his team come on to sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame dressed up in their uniforms. There were so many A list celebrities there including Lucille Ball. In fact she even signed my brother’s baseball mitt. Problem is he continued to play with this mitt. So much so that the signature eventually wore off. Anyone familiar with the Antiques Road Show will know this was a grave mistake - and something he regrets to this day.
