    Well as a King main myself, in my experience, it's about space creation while being able to block...You can't do that with jaguar step alone. Getting away from someone with jaguar step usually ends up with you getting hit with a mini float combo at range zero; if they decide to go for a good mid poke with forward momentum. So KBD and BD in general were way better options for King. But now, with King's BD super nerf, you can't create any space fast, and I hate it. So I started backdashing once ~then immediately~ backwards jaguar stepping.

    To add on about the King backdash. This is actually an improvement from CNT if you ask me. CNT I couldn't even do a singular backdash for an okay distance, it was literally like a little baby step. So at least this current iteration we can cover an okay distance if we don't try to cancel the dashes.

    It's nice to see lili given more movement/spaceing in her KBD, it really fleshes out the idea of what lili is actually suppose to be like; opening space quickly to whiff the opponent. TK7 lili backdash was decent but risky at the same time because on how fast you do it which makes her more vulnerable to moves like df2. When it came to other characters I never had that issue of getting punish while constantly KBD.

  • @rensmasteredarchives6796

    @rensmasteredarchives6796

    7 ай бұрын

    @@sobervision1049 Jin is a generalist-THE most complete generalist. He was always good at defense and turtling too, especially in T7 since his right leg moves were almost ridicolously overtuned as neutral control and keepout tools for most patches and, even when nerfed, were still amazing. The most whiff punishment-centric characters were Heihachi (who's gone), Kazuya (who has received some tools to compensate), Bryan (who's a keepout god but also has great pressure tools), Hwoarang (same as Bryan) and Armor King (who was a generalist like Jin but had inferior tools in exchange for better combos and throws, and who's probably in DLC jail). All other defensive forms of gameplay were chiefly gimmick based with stuff like Asuka parries, Maven disappearing in thin air or Yoshi's flash. That shit is still in the game, turn stealers are still very much a thing. Personally I would've preferred making good movement easier. I think a game where you don't need to KBD but you're just spamming normal backdashes and sidesteps and still getting big wide movement is inherently more interesting than shitting out plus frames with heat and then doing some mix, throwing enough shit at the wall that some of it will stick. It's boring and it's more akin to what 2d fighters do. I was really hoping T8 would have simplified movement mechanics and bigger movement for a lot of reasons, including helping casuals get into it, but it seems like they just want you to spam your big plus frame particle effect move with no flaws and then do a 50\50, which is pretty fucking lame.

    I'm debating getting into Tekken on this one, and I gotta say, I don't really see the appeal of having a special backdash that's harder to do. Although, as an outsider, I'm not sure how hard it actually is. Some people act like a quarter circle in Street Fighter is hard. But if it's something I wouldn't be able to do after trying for a reasonable amount of time, I'd rather they just made regular backdashes good.

  • @PhiDX

    @PhiDX

    I don't think it's hard to do. It's just a proper skill and requires training. It also shapes so much of Tekken's interactions; players moving on a certain "rhythm" are sometimes easier to fight. Pakistan and Korea almost have completely separate rhythms, and that's heavily built on KBD!

  • @NYG5

    Kazuya always should have had the best movement of all the Mishimas and Jin. Heihachi was brute force, Jin had better speed than Heihachi but needed flurries instead of one two power attacks like Heihachi. Kazuya never had Heihachi's strength or Jin's speed and pokes, he's never been able to outstrength either of them. That's why his pokes are worse than either and his power moves aren't as strong as Heihachi, but he is the original Devil so he should have more inhuman movement, and it also should be part of his human game. His body was broken multiple times as a child and an adult, he should rely more on not getting hit and landing calculated shots.

T6 had very strict timing even for iSW combo enders and T7 kept the same difficulty but with the combo ender difficulty removed. Now in T8 good lord, the input window for buffering the damn thing is larger than the grand canyon. Along with the attacker having less to worry about on wake up it turns kings oki into a menace. @sky-oq5mr it even worse for Bryan. And the bad thing is, it seemed like most players realized it. I had a jin, Kaz, Law and claudio staying dead in my face every time I backed away to make space because they knew they could get away with it. Characters like Raven , are even worse. Don't get me started on the jailing moves too!

    It's kind of a bummer that T7 is the bar we're hoping for when it would be great if the bad KBD characters were on par with the best in T7. They just need a limiting factor on how many you can do consecutively, rather than negating the short area effectiveness. But I love that movement and tools in general feel far less homogenized than T7.

    If they insist on surprise sexing Kazuya with nonstop buffs and useless moves, they could at least give him the best backdash and sidestep out of all of the male characters. They don't want to give him pokes, throws, panic moves, and he's supposed to be a defensive character? Then give him the movement.

    In my opinion Raven is a very underrated and unique character indeed, but to do very good with him you need to play very risky, because many of his moves end in his backturn where he's very vulnerable, you need to be very versatile and unpredictable with him, I mainly use him because he resemble Naruto characters in his fighting style and because of his unorthodox approach, for me he's B+ and maximum A in the right hands of use in the Tier List, because he's the type of High Risk-High Reward character. ☯️ 🤷🏻‍♂️

    @@PhiDX It doesn't change the fact that he's still not an S tier character in many regards... the only thing that they buff are his pokes, his Soulzone Stance it's leagues better than Master Raven's Haze Stance because the transition of moves are coming quicker, but he still has no 15 frame launcher or a solid 15 frame punish, his hopkick remains to be a joke of a oribital heel, but that's all fine because not every character in the game should have the same tools, so he still remains to some degree very unsafe. His one good low down 3 use to be plus but got nerfed, so now his neutral lows are't very solid and all of his stance lows are launch punishable. All of his shadows are 14 frame punishable so it is more in the opponents favor to interrupt him, he also lost his Magic 4, d/f4 and qcf 1 no longer launches on hit or counter hit, his backturn grabs are gone, because you can do now only generic grabs from his BT. So they turned him into an unsafe character relying mostly only on his mix ups gimmick to do very good with him in the right hands of use of course. So when most characters in this game are mix up characters they just get more reward and less punishment. If they at least made some of his shadows -12 on block then I think that it would make him a lot better, other than that he's gonna rely mostly on his Shenanigans. 🤷🏻‍♂️✌️

    @@awaisakram8573 I won't bother mentioning his backdash, as that's the obvious tip of the iceberg. With that said. King's lost launchers: CH db3 CH ff1 (This is admittedly still strong with the guaranteed elbow) SS2 natural (This should never have been a thing it's SO cheap in 7, but still) CH b1. He now has to commit to the -12 double high string. His CH shove (ff1+2) now scales back the damage of his follow up considerably. He already had the weakest guaranteed wall damage in Tekken 7 and they nerfed his wall travel along with his wall damage. And now with the nerfed heat system he pretty much cannot use heat to extend combos in 75% of scenarios. In exchange, he got unbreakable, conditional throws, better power crushes, and that crazy heat move that deals 64 damage. Also they made his muscle-armor follow up -9 so it's safe, and he got the universal buff to his side step. This likely isn't everything (for example f+1+2 got faster and better), just the main noticeable things. But basically, King's lost his fundamentals and they doubled down on his weaknesses. Overall it's really difficult to say he's buffed. He got more gimmicky in exchange for gutted neutral. And history has taught us gimmicky grapplers generally do not do well in the long term.
