Wow, first time watching your videos (it just showed up in my feed) and honestly I’ve never had much interest in traveling to this part is the world. But I’ve got to say, this piqued my interest. Many beautiful spots, nice modern and clean places to stay and eat, and friendly, welcoming people. Not to mention, pretty cheap! Thanks for the insights into a new potential travel destination for me!

As someone considering longer term stays I like the trips into the grocery stores and seeing real time costs of everyday food items. Don't be shy ablout drilling down into those costs on a few more staple items! Love the location and there's no doubt it's gonna blow up with the Mandalika development and race track et al.

FYI. What you've saw in this video is "Kuta Mandalika" which is one of the popular tourist spot in Lombok island, Indonesia. Not the Kuta Bali one. So basically they're not balinese but Sasak people. Sasak is the ethnic group in Lombok.

Thanks for sharing wonderful memories Peter! Ironically, sitting almost alone on nearby Tanjung Aan beach at North end (with just 1 beach hut warung and a solitary fisherman) I was reminded of Playa Del Carmen 20+ years ago. Can see here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6lmpZKTmsmxf7A.html Meanwhile, yes, just over the next bay Kuta Mandalika & area is rapidly changing (but still has a village by the sea vibe and waaaaay chiller and nicer than Kuta Bali imho;)

Indonesia really is the perfect place to visit except for the 30 day visa. 🤪I’ve only been to North Sumatra so far. Palau Weh, Danau Toba, + Bukit Lawang were my fav spots…palau weh was quiet + dreamy, didn’t want to leave. I would love to spend 2 months on Lombok + Gilis but there are 5 of us, expensive visa runs to KL 😅 but maybe worth it 🤔, thks for sharing!

The number one problem with staying long term in Indonesia is that its not easy to get a Long Term Visa, regardless of Nationality.. A Business Visa can cost a lot as well as a Retirement Visa, Im unsure of what they cost these days as SE Asia Visas are changing fast but it would be easy enough to find out how you can apply for one, how much it costs and if you have to do a Visa run out of the country every 3-6 or 12 months. If you visit the place then that sort of information could be found easy.

  • @SideTripLife

I showed visa options in an earlier vid (but should have also added here as you correctly point out). So for more visa info, I'll copy n paste my response to another commenter below, hope this helps: ---------- Indonesia Visas? Most just use the 30 days on arrival visa ($35) and renew for another 30 days and then via visa runs to re-start (flight to Singapore etc). There's also a B211 Visa (meant for offshore workers) cost approx $300 for 180 days (valid for 60 days but can be extended twice). Indonesia is also rolling out a 5 year 'second home' visa for those with 130k in the bank. Beyond visa on arrival, most use local visa agents for longer term stays.

Went there in 2010 while living in Mataram. Loved all the places we went on Lombok, but Kuta was a little more rustic than most. It was the overlooked and more rural beach on the island. But we knew there was a plan for investment in infrastructure and development. Good for the people and the economy…but another place built for tourists that lost its character. So it goes.

1st visit to your channel. Nice relaxing style, not too rushed, good titles to help understand local things. New Subscriber and liked. Trying to decide on Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand or ??? Happy Trails from Florida (Merry Christmas from WDW)
