I presume this is no coincidence. From what I remember Disney goes pretty hard against use of their properties. Looking forward to see where this goes. Certainly not what I was expecting to come from the copyright release :)

why would it make it "better"? Disney specifically allowed copyright to drop so the laws governing it doesnt get extended, allowing them to use other properties like some comic heros they didnt have rights to before now. it was a calculated move, and this game wouldnt exist if the copyright was extended

Well, the graphics are obviously simple because the models are filled with gray colors, but I can’t help but notice that it looks very stylish. I see that the graphics are not the highest quality (in terms of 3D models, as I said earlier), but the authors clearly did it with soul.

The fact they can use the black and white coloring to make it look like they're exploding in ink is a nice touch, it allows them to get away with being completely gory but youtube can't touch them really.

Game with solid art direction have proven themselves before. You can check out Hollow knights, Cuphead, Darkest Dungeon or Disco Elysium. They're all games with very memorable visual that works perfectly with the game's concept.

@@JeremyHall-te4nj I understand that but growing up with all of this it just gives me a weird sense of uncanny valley, not in a scared way but more in like “I can’t believe what I’m seeing” kind of way.

It looks great for an early gameplay reveal. I think I would love to see more of those world elements be rendered a bit differently, maybe done with some stylized cell shading, because it really feels odd to have all this 1920's-30s inspired animations look for enemies and the player and then everything else is just pretty normal 3D assets (unless that's a story element of like some Roger Rabbit situation?)

The assets need to be done in a watercolorish aesthetic to pair better with the toon style. It would also be great to have a few missions in a 2 or 3 tone technicolor aesthetic to reflect the cartoons of the era

Pretty sure the developer did this to mimic how in 20/30's cartoons the background and every element which didn't require to be animated were far more detailed and of a darker color compared to every "moving" thing like characters, doors ecc. ,(,You can see that in this game as even door have a "cell-shaded" look to them.)

It looks like a lot more passion is put in games like these, it looks so good.

This looks so cool! I love how it takes the 30s style animation, gives it an Itchy and Scratchy type violence, and then turns it into an FPS game. This is truly one of the most unique games I’ve seen in a long time.

​@@fuzzywzhenah there's definitely plenty of difference in the FPS genre, if you know where to look Games like COD and Battlefield tend to all turn out similarly, but then you have games like ULTRAKILL and Deep Rock Galactic which are radical departures from most other FPS games.

This is the type of new and interesting different type of games. We should keep getting every once in a while. I would play this. And I hope it comes to consoles.

Now that leaves the debate on whether or not we all accept the thought knowing that there won't ever be anything truly different anymore going forward and that the most innovative things have already come to pass, or if there's still a proverbial envelope out there to push on ways we haven't even begun to comprehend yet. I thought I'd jump in and play devil's advocate because you both make very good points that you think contradict but actually fall in line nicely with each other. Personally I thought the same thing like "oh, yet another FPS game with a new coat of paint." But I realize that's not inherently a bad thing, if they can make it interesting beyond unique graphics. Because unique art styles can't carry something alone and if the gameplay gets stale it'll quickly get forgotten to time amongst the countless others in the sea of endless content. We can all just accept those facts and be happy with things the way they are, or hope to see something truly different and possibly be left disappointed in everything that isn't. I think the answer to true happiness lies somewhere in between.

I'd like to see more of these 2D-3D games, mostly for the aesthetic, not just because they're a technical marvel.

Ahhh the joys of public domain

They should have a finisher ability where if an enemy gets stunned then little birdies start flying around there head and then you can go up to them and finish them off with a comically large hammer.

As a giant fan of classic animation this is probably gonna be one of the best new and unique FPS games out there, especially with the art direction. I'm so glad the art of classic animation has been getting attention with the popularity of games paying tribute to it such as Cuphead and BATIM. (Also that little detail with the MPPDA approval mark was really neat, just noticed that. Really shows the dedication the devs must have put into this game.) Really looking forward to it to coming out!!

@@ClunkisMunk No, I haven't played it, modern horror games aren't really my thing to be honest. I just remember the early marketing as "RUBBERHOSE HOROR" and have also seen a lot of younger people talk about how scary and weird older animation is in relation to this game.

What a beautiful job. Let's just wait and get it out as soon as possible with the development they've done and the trailer. Honestly, we'll wait and take as long as you want to upload the game. The more polished it is, the better it will be. My support for this project obviously comes from half of the English community.

If Toontown crossover this game, it possible happens public domain approach until crazy things more happens.

I love the new variety in indie games these last few years, especially with the oversaturation of horror and RPGs of before.

Loving the juxtaposition with the old-fashioned animation and intense violence. Also the juxtaposition/blend of 3-D and 2-D animation is amazing!

Now they need to add the Steamboat Willie mouse to this.

With the vibes of rubberhose animations and Bioshock style atmosphere and gameplay, this has the makings of something phenomenal

I feel like the bosses could use some work for the 2d style but this is early access gameplay! It looks amazing so far!

Looks fascinating! Though I would prefer if the backgrounds looked more sketchy and paint-like. And maybe if something moves, it could turn into a 2D-looking object. That would make it look more legit. But that's just me. It does look great.
