Me and my cat used to watch this together, it was his favourite. He either heard the music and came running onto my lap to watch or he would sit on my lap and attentively stare at the laptop screen then look up at me as a hint to put his favourite video on. Miss that little dude.

I'm impressed with how impressed we are with this. We as humans look at this little mouse and we think, oh how smart he is. He can be behaviorally trained to jump through hoops just like the rest of us, opposing thumbs or not. Big deal, I can drive a car to my slavery, 9 to 5 Monday through Friday. This little guy is actually smarter.

obviously some sort of scent trail left for him, noticeable by his pauses, and how you redirect him around the loop (since the trail would split at the cross-section

What a smart little guy! BTW - as KZread is wont to do - they changed the music to your video; now, instead of the Olympics theme song, it's backed by something called "Northern Sleep". It's actually pretty cute the way it is, but I'm guessing that it doesn't convey the level of excitement you intended. Apparently you can apply to use copyrighted material; I would recommend that, or finding another trumpet-y song, because this mouse is Olympian!

I'm not sure that 'laying a scent on the track' would work..in a few cases he could have easily gone around/under as opposed to over objects, I'm thinking he ran the course in a closed maze, and later removed parts as it learned the course. What's important here is that it's entertaining to watch. Enjoy the mystery of how it was done and "just" applaud the mouse and it's owner for being so entertaining. Well Done Brain Storm !! Bravo!! I'd love to see more :)

I'm pretty sure the there was a scent trail painted. Because if you look closely, the only part that required assistance from the owner was the "loop" part. and if you think about it, when you have a loop, the scent will be in a circle, which will destroy the leading factor. The course is set distance apart, so the scent will not affect other part of the trail. The entire time mouse was just sniffing and getting hit on where he should go next.
