A big Mountune custard upgrade gets installed!
I have got my hands on a Mountune cat back exhaust V3 for my MK3 Ford Focus RS! These are often sold out on the Mountune store but I got in there well in advance of planning to install so now I get to complete the install and see how much of an improvement over stock it is!
There are multiple reasons for getting the Mountune V3 Focus RS exhaust including aesthetics with the larger and shinier exhaust tips with laser etched Mountune logo, for a sound upgrade having larger bore pipe work and a specially designed back box design, the sound is tuned for the character of the RS as well as for increased volume and as far as performance goes, it is lighter than stock and removes restriction found in the standard RS exhaust system in terms of the larger bore tubing and the removal of the flat 'pancake' section that exists in the stock setup. This should mean that pickup will feel faster and more eager - something that I will test after the install!
I show the full installation process including removal of the stock Focus RS exhaust which requires cutting it and then removal of exhaust hangers, etc. before then showing how the new Mountune V3 exhaust is installed piece by piece which includes both v-band clamps / connections and more regular type clamps with double slip joints for the different exhaust sections.
I round off this video with some sound comparisons. There is a very scientific (kind of but perhaps not entirely accurate but should give a good indication!) comparison of cold start between stock and V3 RS exhausts with a decibel meter and then a comparison / showcase of some revs!
I also retain the exhaust valve delete from my standard MK3 Ford Focus RS exhaust setup as I have enjoyed having it so I want to see what it is like in comparison when installed in conjunction with the Mountune V3 exhaust!
Valve delete keeps the valve open permanently so the exhaust will be on full loudness always and also will stop the error code caused by the valve sticking ever showing!

- 4.5" laser-etched polished tailpipes
- includes new exhaust valve (motor assembly will need to be swapped from OE exhaust and is shown for illustration)
- v-band / double-slip joints throughout
- high-flow rear silencer design
- 10% lighter than OE system
- supplied with all required clamps and hardware
- compatible with OE downpipe / catalyst and Mountune sports cat

Produced from 304 series, 3” mandrel bent stainless steel tubing, the Mountune V3 cat back exhaust also includes many features used in motorsport applications; each tube joint is connected by either v-band or custom double slip-joint, ensuring the best seal possible while maintaining adjustability and lightness. Large 4.5” laser-etched polished tailpipes join the rest of the system via v-band to allow even easier trim adjustment and future system customisation.

Also, as the exhaust is next to the ground, it will be subjected to weather elements as well as dust, dirt, stones so in order to protect the finish, I ceramic coat using Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour. This is top quality ceramic coating provides a high level of hardness & durability while also being heat resistant providing protection for 2 years!

The v3 tips fill the diffuser way better than the stock tips did. Looks epic and sounds even better.
Hi Adam. Another fantastic video bud. I thought you would of decated it too to unleash those 425 horses from MSD. I was there yesterday with mine. Took the mountune 400 of and put MSD 420 on. It can party now. What a difference. Keep up the good work mate 🤙🤙

@@blinkinbadger6164 I can tell you from experience, there is no sound difference. The only difference is how loud it is. The engine is what dictates the sound of the exhaust, and all modern turbo 4 pots sound more or less the same. A straight pipe may be obnoxious, but it removes all flow restriction, and if you truly care about performance, then removing restriction is more important than sound.

killgorees what are you talking about !? I get 418 bhp wether I run stock cat back or scorpion cat back , my car was run on an independent dyno & I ran 418 on a stock cat back

Cool exhaust. Great quality video. You deserve more subs. I unfortunately, I will have to remove my Mountune exhaust on my Fiesta ST200. Because I failed my MOT in Belgium. Emission test was ok, I doubt they did a noise test. But no paperwork, or E-mark will fail you, is what they claim, despite my proof of warranty. MOT in Belgium is an absolute nightmare with huge inconsistencies.
Just bought a second hand V3 X catback system that's only done 500 miles! Can't wait for it to arrive! 😄

Another great informative video Adam 👍...I fitted my scorpion on ramps on the driveway, that’s a day I won’t forget for a while ! ...are you still on the stock cat ? Mine sounded stunning until I had the sports cat fitted, after that it changed to a tinny louder tone that I just hated, so I went back to stock cat back ( another driveway fitment ) ...the quality of the v3 looks the biz to be fair 👍

The app is called 'Sound Meter' but to be honest, I am not convinced of its accuracy

I'm actually surprised how good it sounds on camera. Tbh, always preferred the sound of the miltek one, I believe it's louder on idle and creates a few more random pops. But very surprised with the sound of the Mountune V3. Completely changes the character of the car👍

I actually prefer the standard sound, the mountune is far to raspy, I run scorpion sports cat with the standard system and it’s lovely and deep, when you get a sports cat added to yours it will be even louder, your neighbours must love you😂
Am I right in thinking that's non resonated? So the louder option. Think miltek has options with and without.
It’s the best thing I ever did.. I got scorpion and it says 90 dB but I was holding my closer to the exhaust then you was

What size v-band for the tips if you don’t mind
Can you put this on a 1.6 mark 3 focus?
Where did you order it from? It shows always out of stock. I live in the United States and I work 15min aways from mountune USA they never have any eta or any infos. I went now with the ETS EXHAUST doesbthe mountune have the ability to be connected on a aftermarket downpipe without the V band connection?

You can do some degree of tuning without hardware yes
Mine has the scorpion sport cat and cat back it was more down to price for me , the mountune 1 does sound good cheers Steve 👍😀

Steve BHP DEVON exhaust sound has got to be one of the biggest opinion gatherers ( if that makes sense ) what one person loves , another hates I loved my scorpion cat back with the stock cat, my mate thought it wasn’t loud enough !?

@@blinkinbadger6164 fords sound deadening is pretty good so seems a bit quiet when the windows are closed, when the valve is closed it sounds like standard to me quiet and sensable, but you get the opposite when the valve is open cheers steve 👍

Hi Francis, I got it directly from Mountune and it was about £1200 so not the cheapest certainly but I think it looks great and all this time later I still love how it sounds

With essentially any aftermarket exhaust for the RS you will be getting larger bore size, removal of the pancake section and a more freely flowing back box all adding up to a reduction in back pressure which will aid in performance, especially when mapped in

Adam Rainey I had been watching both Mountune USA who never had exhaust in stock and was told to look at Mountune UK and now they also never have it in stock. I’ve had my car 3 years now and am getting tired of waiting on them.

Just a few so you see the wetness on the applicator. If you get it dripping out of the bottle and make a little circle then you will be good to go

If you get it back, install autowatch ghost immobilizer. Can't access OBD port or even use the keys to start

Unfortunately ceramic coating doesnt bond to bare surfaces, only painted surfaces

Unfortunately, you are wrong. There are some ceramic coatings that are formulated to bond perfectly to bare metal - not all ceramic coatings are the same. Do your research
