Mounting Leaf Spring Slider Brackets in a Better Way
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I want to show that there is a better way to mount leaf spring slider mounts in without hard welding them. And make them adjustable forward and backwards to adjust for different driving conditions... Hope some of my ideas help someone out there.

Cool, I'm glad you liked it. I hope it helps out... I would put them on. It will really free up the suspension.
Great video

Good stuff .. I bought my slider brackets from funkhouser.. his design bolts on and they have some rake built into them as well… thanks for explaining how they operate…

Just set it up for full compression on bump stops. That’s as far back as it will ever go. No need to adjust after that unless you change springs or bump stops

It's not a bad theory, but you said it. What if you need new springs, and they are slightly different. Even if you don't adjust them, I think they should still be bolted in. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching.
Great vid. Cool dude. Has the slider helped much then with getting your slicks to hook? Compared to maybe just getting your swinging shackles to move freely? Thanks!

Before I had the sliders, I built aluminum bushings that had bearings pressed into them. They moved really free. When I switched to sliders I noticed it left a lot harder, and square.
I youst to race a 71Camaro on circle track. That looks like a much better way to set it up then the way we did it! I think I'll see if I can apply that to my 68 C10.

I'm glad you liked it. It will probably work on most leaf spring set ups.

68 c10 is coil springs not leaf springs.
Looks good man. Have you ever mounted a GO PRO to the under body so you can see how your Camaro sliders look when working? I saw a video on youtube years ago someone did and its amazing how much they move.

No, not yet. I just got a few Go Pros this year. Definitely plan on doing that though, so we can make better tuning decisions.... They for sure move a lot, it's surprising!

@@jimkiernan2855 so I just refreshed myself with that video. They do move some - not as much as I was thinking though. Kinda looks like this person did something similar with the frame-to-bracket mount as you did. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iKRlx8awaZnShtY.html

I've seen them move a lot on radial cars that need the separation. They are nice, because the spring rate doesn't change, like with a swing shackle... It looked like his set up had the ability to move the mount forward.

Why not just center it on the existing frame shackle hole? Great idea and demonstration on the variability to tune leaf springs.

I'm thinking of fabbing something like that, myself. An adapter to mount a slider to an S10 drag truck, via the existing shackle hole.

I guess you could try that it might work. I noticed when I moved weight percentages around it moved the spring eye to far back. Thanks for the complement, and watching.
How long do these bearings last on the street? Is it something you have to maintain often if you use the cfar much?
@jimkiernan2855
10 ай бұрын
I don't know how long they last. I've had them on my car for 5 years, and they are still solid. I would imagine they would last a long time. They are a sealed bearing, and not really hard to change out.
Do you sell these mounts ? I need some yesterday lol.
With the weight of the car on the slider. Do you set the slider bolt center?
@jimkiernan2855
Ай бұрын
No. With all of the weight on the car the slider bolt should be 3/4 to 1 inch from the back. In other word 3/4 to 1 inch of the slot should be showing.
To me the 3/8 of thread just doesn’t seem like enough thread to hold on to these.. you’ve had no issues with that?
@jimkiernan2855
2 ай бұрын
Nope. Never had an issue. They never loosened up, broke, or shifted. I had them on the car like that for 6 or 7 years.

Can I make a longer slider so I don't need to move it forward and aft? I like the adjustable mount. I would probably use it along with spacers to adjust ride height. Instead of blocks at the axle. Anyway do you know if there are any negative effects of longer slider? Thanks
@jimkiernan2855
Жыл бұрын
You could make them longer I suppose. I don't think there would be any negative effects from it. You would just have to make sure there is plenty of room for movement at different weights. I believe I saw some companies making long sliders in the 4X4 offroad world.
