    I only got into that last season- somehow missed it in previous seasons but the Y-chutes were quite fun and VERY uncrowded compared to some other Epic resorts in CO where you still have to wait your turn even after 30 minute hikes.

    Beaver Creek is without a doubt my favorite ski resort. They opened the 250 acre McCoy Park for family skiing January 2022. And don’t forget the Birds Of Prey, an advanced area that is the location for one of the great World Cup Tour events, the men’s Downhill and Super G.

    Yes, my wife and I did McCoy Park one morning last week. BC bills McCoy as the only North American bowl specific to green level. Nothing "above" the park so it doesn't get overrun by bombers moving from one location to another. The one lift never got busier than a two or three minute wait (mid-week)..... mostly skied directly onto the lift. Almost all green rated on the map, only two trails had any grooming. That was a PLUS for me. Just after a day old 12" dump, most of the Park was still untouched as Green skiers/boarders usually prefer corduroy.... like my wife. This made a huge portion of the Park pow-heaven and was very enjoyable for me. Even my wife ventured into the pow; honestly a great place to get introduced to skiing powder if your trip timing hits a storm or two. The one downside is returning to base at the end of the days via only catwalks (I think) for the beginner skier. Doable, but like some catwalks in other resorts, has a few short challenging sections. Middle intermediates will find no such problems.

    I guess my trip snowboarding at Beaver Creek while staying at a friend of friends simple but nice and large enough condo in Avon was the best vacation of my life. Now, this was around 2007-ish, which means I was in my early 20’s and living “my best life,” as they say😊. We dished out the cash for lessons, which I recall being very expensive; however, it was worth every penny. Most of us spent our recreational time on the lake wakeboarding, and almost the whole group had only snowboarded on terrible fake snow that's mostly like melting ice at the only place to ski or snowboard in my wonderful state of Alabama. It was the only time in my life when I was clearly better at a sport than my friends, so I remember every minute, I promise (I couldn't get in the van because my head was suddenly so big, lol). So after a morning's lesson with only one exception: we could ride well enough to enjoy ourselves. Growing up water skiing and wakeboarding probably helped. Without the lesson, the trip would have been a waste of money. Lastly, it's stunningly beautiful and I don't recall the month we went but it snowed every day for a few hours at least. My first trip up the mountain it really started snowing really heavily and at the top we had “snow thunder and lighting” so after riding our way down the staff made us go in some building. Truly one of the happiest or fun and almost emotional moments of my life was carving my way down the mountain in heavy snow with great friends in such a beautiful place as that. Owe and we were gonna go ride in Vail and did go to the town to some restaurants and bars where we were so lucky to see the band Better Than Ezra doing a show outside in the middle of the town where they had set up a big stage in the street. Then when they finished we walked into a bar and Shawn Mullins was playing. That was just pure luck. Anyway we were so happy with Beaver Creek that it wasn’t necessary to use our lift pass for Vail. I kinda regret not but only because I’d like to have seen it.

  • @AlanLamb11

    @AlanLamb11

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah, unfortunately I used to say Vail was one of the best resorts in CO when there is POW but the last few years the crowds are heavier and making me reconsider that evaluation- Beaver or A-Basin are the best alternatives on POW days now if you can't make it to Wolf Creek or Silverton (kinda unlikely for a day trip).

  • @Fresh_Goo

    @Fresh_Goo

    As someone from Denver, I really hate this attitude. Your point that a more crowded resort is skied out faster is valid, but blaming it on tourists is so stupid and mean spirited. It would be just as skied out if every expert skier showed up one day, or one season a bunch of locals picked up the sport. And if you're worried about skiing around newbies, why are you going to BC, the most family oriented resort in CO? Piss off

  • @PeakRankings

    Hey Jeremy, the Red Buffalo area does have an easy way down called Dally. However, it's long and flat, so beginners may not like the length. You can avoid that trail by downloading the Centennial lift. One note-while Red Buffalo is great for beginners, we strongly advise starting out at the Haymeadow bunny hill for true first-timers. It's important your kids get at least somewhat comfortable on skis before going outside the learning area.

    I’m usually the odd one out related to BC opinions, but I disagree with just how highly you rated BC. It appears BC is rated 6 points higher than Palisades Tahoe? That seems to be a stretch IMO. I really enjoy the cookies at BC, the great tree skiing in Royal Elk glades and other hidden areas, the lack of crowds, and steep moguls at Grouse mountain. However, I would rate the moguls at BC notably lower than Mary Jane, Taos, and A-Basin. I overall find BC to not have enough challenge. The Stone Creek chutes are so short and are often very thin- IMO. Expert terrain at other CO resorts (Crested Butte, A Basin, Telluride, even Breck) holds a notable edge over BC.

  • @PeakRankings

    @PeakRankings

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the feedback Andrew! Ultimately, we arrived at Beaver Creek's rank thanks to its top-tier facilities, high-speed lifts, lack of lift lines, and extremely demanding expert terrain. It's really hard to find another mountain that has all these traits combined. While not the most challenging CO resort overall, we'd actually say that Beaver Creek has the most demanding mogul runs of any resort we've tried in the state, simply due to the sheer length of the pitches on Birds of Prey and Grouse Mountain. Agreed that the Stone Creek Chutes are on the shorter side-and you have to look for the most technical lines in there.

  • @andrewsteward7830

    @andrewsteward7830

    It’s great that you’re doing a well-rounded ranking. For me, yes Grouse mountain and Birds of Prey are steep but A-Basin and Crested Butte are on another level for challenge. I actually find some areas of Vail are more challenging than Beaver Creek, such as the Northwoods cliffs. If it were me I would give Crested Butte the highest ranking in Colorado due to challenge. I was bummed to see Crested Butte at the bottom of your Colorado list. But like I said it’s good that you incorporate lots of different factors into your rankings.

  • @PeakRankings

    @@andrewsteward7830 fair enough! To each their own, and that's why we break down our rankings by category. If we were to break our Colorado rankings down only by challenge, Crested Butte would be first, with Telluride, A-Basin, Aspen Highlands, and Aspen Mountain all ranked above Beaver Creek as well.
