My wife Mary was from the Missouri/Mississippi River near St. Louis...She was Scots/Cherokee, 6 ft tall dark, brunette, pale and quiet as a tomb....She was a STUNNER! I'm short, bald, 5' 8 looking a little like George Costanza (now you get the picture.) She loved me and...I didn't deserve her, (after dating 5 years She asked me ...TO MARRY HER!!!) She lived up to the song and more...but 13 mo.'s After our Daughter was born - Bone Cancer took my beautiful Mary away.....Nobody else like and .... I'll ALWAYS LOVE.... MY Mississippi Queen...

When they were recording this song, their producer/bassist insisted that they do multiple takes of the song. After a while, the drummer started getting restless, and decided to count the song off with the cowbell, creating the iconic intro. The rest of the band liked it so much that they decided to keep it.

This week our group from Sun City, Georgetown, Texas went on a migratory bird hunt. All of us are over 70. At the end of the hunt we were picking up the decoys and getting some photographs. The outfitters guides had been videoing the adventure , All of a sudden we heard "Mississippi Queen" blasting from the blind. One of the guides had brought a boom box for our enjoyment. It was a special ending to a wonderful morning in Texas!

You will never hear a better performance than that one anywhere. My memory is shot now from 5 strokes and 4 heart attacks but I still have that music in my ears today. God was very good to me to let me be there!! Yes R.I.P. Mr. Mountain.

I know what you mean.1973 I was 12 and I grow up with this fantastic music. You are a real rocker.Wish you the best.🎸🙏
I remember my older brother running to dad's Philco to crank up the volume on this tune. There was/is something unique about it from other rock music at the time. The solid drums and bass, over-amped guitar, voice, and lyrics keep this gem a classic. Thank you!!
Listened to this a couple of weeks ago, IN Vicksburg...hit so much deeper even than before RIP Leslie
My buddy an I back in high school named our boat the Mississippi Queen.

Leslie West died yesterday 12-22 2020. He was a giant and had one of the first super groups in the late 60s. This has been a disasterous year. Thank you Sir for your music and blowing my mind. ☮️❤️

Saw him in the 70s in Jackson, Tennessee. Leslie was a big guy who could belt out a song.
“Sir, refills are $1.”
One of the best concerts I had the pleasure of seeing irregardless of how let’s say foggy the memories are.
This Music Video, I love it. It has a very charming style and the music, well, YEAH!
