Weyerhaeuser (one of the biggest timber industry companies in the Pacific Northwest) has replanted over 18 million seedling trees by hand since the blast, which started within months of the eruption. They actually harvested their first trees again from the area in 2005, amazing how fast they grow with all the rainfall and fertile soil.

I visited Mt Saint Helen's 5 years after the eruption. It was very barren, trees blasted to the ground, complete devastation, and no visitor centers. Interesting to see how they have developed the area. I still have some pumice I took from the side of the road. Love your drone footage from the monument.

I was a teenager when Mt. St. Helens blew, lived in Longview and actually on the Columbia river, we saw it blow from our kitchen when on Sunday morning eating breakfast with my parents, drove down to the Cowlitz river to watch all the logs coming down to the Columbia from the mountain. Long time ago now, I know my children will be old men by the time it looks like it did prior to the eruption, it really was pristine beauty back then. Love your videos and we are dreaming of our next adventure in our RV as soon as this pandemic is over. Thanks for the distraction.

Isn't America a beautiful country. I used to live on the bottom of Beacon Rock. I used to climb it every day...wait for my dad to come down the highway and run to the bottom to meet him. The Park Ranger was a family friend. I used to enjoy watching him tie fly's. Fascinated me for some reason. I can remember him taking me on evening rounds. His daughter taught me to ride horses. Took me riding all the time. The park, the rock, and the horse trails were our playground. Those were happy days.

Such a beautiful part of the country, my Grandma lived on the coast just south west of Seattle. She took me to Mt Saint Helens when I was a kid in the early 90s, I came back in the mid 2000s and we actually just missed being there at the same time as you last summer. The wife and I took the kids last August to see the volcano for the first time, it has been amazing to so see nature reclaim the disaster area over the last 40 years and I'm so thankful my Grandma started this experience for me and that's why I want my kids to see this area a few times in their lives. Stay safe Robert and keep up the great content!

To those of us who lived thru this, from Seattle to Portland, this still takes our breath away! I had a friend camping on it that night. Their dog cried all night. The State patrol basically hauled them out and into their own car and chased them all the way down the mountain. They survived but it took over a week for her to stop shaking!

I live live in Vancouver WA and had a live view of the St Helens eruption. Prior thereto, I used to hike St. Helens and have had little interest in revisiting its destruction. This motivates me to take a drive. Most of Mt Reaner NP is closed for repairs at this time, so no loss skipping there. A miracle is documenting in this video: He found a parking spot at Multnomah Falls after 8:00 am in the morning. I would be terrified to drive some of those off-freeway local roads hauling an RV. Great display of eastern Washington.

I wa there when mt St. Helens blew. Our family used to camp there on spirit lake when I was a kid. We even climbed up it when I was 8 yrs old. We could see it’s perfect ice cream cone peak from our home in a clear day because we didn’t live that far from the mountain. It’s so different to go up there now. I think mount rainier is more spectacular now but mt St. Helens will always be my mountain. I was only a couple miles away from it when it blew. Fortunately I was on the south west side. It blew north east. I was 16 at the time. It’s still very beautiful, especially when it’s covered in snow. The original glaciers are gone that kept it snow covered all year. But it’s still an awesome mountain. One of my last memories of my dad before he died was me taking him to the Johnston ridge center because he hadn’t been there since it was built. It was raining like crazy and the mountain was shrouded in clouds. We watched the film. No one else was there except the rangers who weren’t alive when it blew. He was telling them about all our camping trips up there in the 60s and 70s when the clouds parted and showed the mountain blanketed with its first snow of the year. It was amazing. My dad was in his element and everyone gasped to see the mountain in its beauty

LOL I actually shivered when you crossed the Nisqually River... When I was in ROTC Advanced Camp in 1989 at Ft Lewis we had to swim across the Nisqually in an infantry river crossing exercise..JEEBUS that was the coldest water I've ever swam in EVER. Fed by glaciers on Mt Rainier. But the scenery out there...stunningly beautiful.

We lived in Vancouver, WA when St. Helen's blew. We have visited the area many times since then. We have been on the east side-Windy Ridge-long way back, but love the view of the mountain. While living in Vancouver, we made many day trips down the gorge with our children and even now, get down there a few times a year. We live about an hour from Seattle and love the west side of the mountains, but love to get to the east side when we can. Oregon has the same type of geology/topography as Washington...green on the west and much more brown on the east side with a beautiful all its own.

Mount St. Helens was also one of my stops last summer. I made the mistake when googling to pick the Mount St. Helens Institute. Which was only 100 miles from the Johnston Ridge Observatory. When I got to the observatory it was cloudy and I wasn't able to see the crater. So I stayed the night at a campground and was able to see the full mountain when the clouds cleared the next day. I was amazed at the devastation and also the lack of new growth in the area after 40 years. Not to mention the dome in the crater has grown to 67% of it's original size before the blast according to the Ranger. Thanks for posting.

Hi Robert! That was the most beautiful drive. We enjoyed your video of your adventure. My wife has been in Oregon before and I myself have never gone there yet. It has been my long dream to go there and we can't wait to get a trailer and take road trips there. It was quite breathtaking in your video. We are can't wait to see the next video. As always, thanks for having us on your adventure and see you onto the next one. Stay safe. 🤟🏻😊🤟🏻 On the side note, I am mapping out for a summer 2021 trip to the east coast and back.
