𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘺….
A distress call came in from a hiker who had just completed the Mount Larcom climb, they stumbled upon a dog in bad shape near the top of the mountain. Unsure of who to call, they reached out to Council for help. ☎️🐕
Our Customer Solutions team quickly contacted our Local Laws Department to see if we could assist. It was an out of the ordinary request, but once the team heard the distress call, they quickly drove out to Mount Larcom to see if they could help.
Local Laws Officer Nanthus made the trek up the mountain to locate and rescue the dog, Chief.
Chief showed signs of dehydration, heat stress and shock, with worries he wouldn’t survive the trip back down the mountain. Nanthus gave him water and placed Chief in a sling for the tricky descent.
Officers Emanuele and Sue greeted Nanthus and Chief near the foot of Mount Larcom, where they gave him more water and Chief started to respond. Fortunately, Chief found the strength to walk the rest of the way on his own.
Once back in Gladstone, Officers were able to reunite Chief with his owner, Robert, who was overjoyed to see his lost dog. 🐶❤

Robert shared that his other dog Sophie was also missing. Fortunately, Sophie was also found the next day hiding in rocks at the very top of the climb.
We’re pleased to report both Sophie and Chief are now home safe and sound.

🌄 Climbing Mount Larcom is no easy task for people or for pets, the 12klm trail is managed by the Department of Resources.
