Mount Everest Base Camp Trek 2024| Full Video
My first ever hiking and that too, to Everest Base Camp. I got sick in between but found the motivation to complete the trek and reach the base camp. This is a video I made with all the videos that I recorded during the trek. I hope you will enjoy it.

A very enjoyable video and am glad you are okay! Curious though - I know that this trek doesn't invole any technical skills or climbing but you do have to be quite physically fit to do it, and there's no telling how one's body will react to the altitude. Why did you not do any treks leading up to this once you had decided to do this? Why were you comfortable with this being your maiden trek, because if it was your first, it also meant that you didn't know how your body would hold up with trekking in general, let alone with the altitude? I noticed you are from Bangalore and there are so many treks nearby, did you not consider doing some to prepare yourself for the walks at least?

Hi, how are you? Thank you for your kind words. I’m not really a trekking enthusiast. I just wanted to go at least to the base camp, as I developed some fantasies about Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam etc. after reading "Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer. I was of course worried about the altitude. My only confidence was riding motorcycle through Umling La Pass in 2022, and it is at higher altitude than Everest Base Camp. But like an idiot, I learned the hard way that riding and trekking are both different. So, why I didn’t do any treks before this, I don’t really know. Mentally, I was there way before. Just took the body later! As you have mentioned physical fitness, I think Cardio in the gym helped me. And I walk a lot inside the city in Bangalore as well. I'm basically from the coastline in Kerala. Maybe spending time in the water has helped as well. I think it's mostly about your legs and lungs.

Hi Chris, how are you? I did not take any medicine for altitude sickness beforehand. But I got the signs of sickness (headache & vomiting sensation) when I reached Gorakshep and I took medicine from my guide that night (after finishing Everest base camp) and the next day I was fine again and trekked back to Lukla. I'm not sure which tablet it was! (most probably diamox) But I’m sure you’ll be fine without any medication. All the best Chris.

Hello Suraj, how are you? Yes, we had an experienced guide for the group. And it's not mandatory to have a guide for EBC, you can go solo as well. I went in February, and it was not crowded at all. It was only our group at the base camp when we reached there.

Congratulations 🥳 on your success. Liked your slow narration. Some questions 1) which month did you climb & did u need any additional gear for snow? 2) did u get to shower beyond namche. What was the cost? 3 ) did u use sleeping bags? Or just liner.

Ravi ji, thanks for the kind words. The trek was in the last week of February. It was almost dry everywhere until Dingboche (6th day). Even after that, it was so bright during the daytime that by noon the trail was dry again. So we didn’t need much extra gear specifically for snow. I managed with 2 layers of clothing. About shower, I didn’t shower beyond Namche Bazaar but my crazy teammates did. So, yes, facilities are available. I took the package through Himalayan wonders (69k, excluding airfare both ways of course). I was always wearing 3 layers at night, so a sleeping bag was not needed. But Gorakshep was unbearable so I used it there.

@@Soliloquy_101 1. Cold obviously! At Gorakshep it went down to -18/-19 if I’m not wrong. But I’m sure you can manage it! 2. I used thermal socks. It manages moisture and holds warmth well, in my opinion. I think cotton socks will do good as well, but I have some sweat issues with them. 3. I think you can go all the way to base camp without a guide. Last year, Nepal announced a ban on solo trekking. But I think Everest Base Camp was an exception in that. Please do research and make sure before you go. And I wish you all the very best! Have fun

Is a porter or guide required for this EBC trek, as per the latest regulations, or may we do it without them -Solo?

  • @14doxx

Hey there! From what I read online I can see that solo trekking is not banned in Sagarmatha National Park region. That means we can still trek solo to EBC. But all this news is from 2023 publishing. I just reached out to some official I met there. I'll let you know what he says. Edit: Just got confirmation that we can still do solo trekking to EBC!
