Motorola Razr 20 Years Later: Flip Phones Are Finally Cool Again!

Ғылым және технология

It’s been 20 years since the launch of the original Razr V3, and now Motorola is trying to reinvent the flip phone again with the foldable Razr 2024 and Razr Plus 2024. With much bigger cover displays, lots of AI features and sleeker designs, can these foldables stand out against the Galaxy Z Flip 6? I sit down with Ruben Castano, VP of customer experience and design, and Maria Jose Martin, director of North America marketing, to see what sets these foldables apart.

Congratulations to Motorola on their flip phones, they are arguably the best flip phones, again historical, on the market.

i was a razr 2019 user - it's still a perfect phone the screen is still intact i still have my phone. i'm a razr 2022 current user - the hole phone is perfectly fine, screen, processor, battery life. I'LL DEF BE a razr 2024 ultra user. This phone is the best phone for me. It's the result of the evolution. It is what foldable phones must be.

They don't have a long enough security and software upgrade policy. Needs to be at least 5 years and 5 Android upgrades.

The question I have is have they improved the crease where the phone folds? Because I had the Motorola razor Plus 2023 For like maybe four or five months at the most and at the crease on the inner screen I had a big black line to where the inner screen didn't work at all anymore... And Motorola would not work with me on replacing the phone and it was still under the manufacturer warranty so I got upset and turned it in and traded it for the Samsung Galaxy s24 Plus I was very upset I just could not believe it so that's my question?

Durability concerns of the inner display is what keeps me from trying a foldable device.

Owning the 2020,2022 and ultra 40 razr i will skip this 50 ultra due to lacklustre os updates,on the Motorola community forums not one agent can give us any idea when the 40ultra will be getting our android 14 updates,as for security updates i have been getting the bimonthly security updates,im in Australia,as the agents have stated on the forum security updates are done per phone, not the whole region, in America others have the latedt security patches others are still on May 2023,this is the same for all regions, as for me this will be my last razr untill Motorola/Lenova release updates in a timely manner...I hope this helps a few ppl decide.

Folding phone still seem very niche and gimmicky to me. And the crease would drive me crazy. To each their own though... just not for me. That said, this does seem like one of the better ones.

I still feel like this flip style phone is a solution waiting on a problem. I can just pull my candy bar phone out and see and so everything thing instantly! If my phone is on my desk, I can just tap it or it will automatically come in when I get a notification. The other thing I don’t understand about these types of phones are the fact that you lose a lot of the dust and water resistance. Also you gain a crease in the screen. What am I getting back for those short coming?

Slab phones have gotten way too big. All that would be worth it to me to have a phone I can fit in my back pocket without having to worry about it popping out when I simply bend over or having to take it and set it somewhere whenever I have to use a public restroom, or else it WILL fall in the toilet.

@samanthareardon3330 I agree... I have the Moto Razr 2022, and it's been a blessing for taking to the gym instead of my huge candy bar S24 Ultra. It fits neatly in my sweatpants of my zip pocket workout hoodie and doesn't look ridiculous. This years Razor is even thinner when folded... so can't wait to get one!
