Motorman's detailing secrets

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Whenever I get caught in the rain, it makes a terrible mess out of the bike. Therefore, I have to get out the hose, the bucket, the soap and some wax. Using the procedure you see in this video, in no time, the bike will look like new. The motorcycle jack was purchased at Harbor Freight. I forgot to add, this offer is good for DOMESTIC orders only. Shipping international orders costs way too much, you're better off buying the downloads.

try using a good quality wide paint brush with the soapy water, for getting into all the small nooks and crannies like engine fins, etc. that a sponge can't reach. Makes for a quick and thorough cleaning process. I also use an electric leaf blower to blow out all water from the bike.

@darren watkin This is just my two cents worth but I don't use air compressors for drying due to the fact that they can blow oil and moisture out of the hose. They can also blow water into places it should never be like under gaskets, past o-rings or into bearings. Just food for thought. Ride safe!

I rode to a small town west of where I live the other day. 10 minutes before I arrived in that town, it rained. The weather man never gave it a chance to rain that day. I parked the bike and went into a restaurant in town. 2 hours later, it was still raining. I checked the radar and it showed rain across most of the state. The worst part was, that small town had some chert pits (dirt/clay and rock). The trucks had been coming in and out of those pits for the whole 2 hours I was in the restaurant. By the time I got home, my Limited looked like I had been in a dirt bike race. That was the worst my bike has looked since I’ve owned it.

Depends on the paint condittion, what you do is a beautiful job! If a paint job is oxidized and needs a lot of attention, i go over it with green can of Dupont no.7 cleaner, then right over that with Carnuba wax. With that base down, do your bike just like on this video. Zip wax, by itself doesnt really do a whole lot, but add a teaspoon of Carnuba to that mixture, and the chemicals in Zip Wax will liquify the Carnuba and make it a lot easier to put on. Carnuba is the best water repellant . Zip wax has very little of it. Just enough to legally say it has it. By adding a teaspoon of Carnuba to what it already has, improves it 900%.

8:04 I’ll be honest. I never really washed my motorcycles. Even my brand new ones. I should have, but rarely did. I didn’t drive a car, so I was always on it. In the rain, snow, all kinds of weather. But when I did, I used a blower to dry. Works amazing! Great vid!

I'll have to try the TW wash and dry product....but two things; one -that bike wasn't dirty...not even close....I used to live in Florida and if you don't ride in the rain, your bike never gets dirty. Now I live in the NW where it rains all the time...two- just a little tip, leaf blowers work okay but a compressed air line works better because it's more concentrated and directional. Gets in the little cracks better. Your welcome. ;-]

Is that a siren hook up on your front right crash bar? Or is that now integrated to your horn?

Hey Jerry, I always enjoy your videos. I have the same bike as your wife's. '12 Cop bike. Do you have a recommendation for where I can get some saddle bag inserts. Driving me crazy. I hate the blank look, but the after market stuff I'm seeing sucks. Thanks and you both ride safe !

Reaper Ronin dilute it for it will strip wax full strength and it ain't cheap so diluted it lasts much longer.

Hello! What is best to use for restoring faded paint on the plastic parts of the bike?

  • @motorman857

If it's black plastic, ''Back to Black'' works great. If it's paint on plastic, you'll need a polish, or a polishing compound. There are hundreds to choose from. Start with the least aggressive.

Hey Motorman! Love your videos! I'd really like to take your class in person, but Yuma is a long way from Port Richey. So, I just bought the "Ride Like A Pro" and "Mean Streets 2" videos. Question, what kind of jack are you using for motorcycle maintenance? I've been looking for one, but there's too many choices. Could really use a suggestion from someone who's been there, done that. Thanks!
