Motorcycling Across America (US) - EP3 - LA to NY

In September 2019, I left Brooklyn to travel the country alone on my 2008 Triumph Bonneville. Upon leaving, I could never have anticipated everything that I’d encounter over the next month. These videos do little justice to the feeling of driving alone into an endless horizon, the relief of a stranger helping you out of an impossible situation, the suppressing heat of a desert sun on a leather jacket, the desperation of hoping for a gas station around the next corner, the warmth of a motel room after a 7 hour drive through the rain, the conversations had, the loneliness felt, and the joy of completing the last of 9,275 miles. Even so, I hope these glimpses will serve as inspiration for someone to dive headfirst into the unknown and unfamiliar, and for myself to look back and be reminded of the adventure of a lifetime.

That ending when you back your bike up to the same spot you park your bike everyday and notice that your home and Everything looks so familiar. The emotion that overwhelms you knowing you accomplished a big journey and found yourself spiritually is the definition of life. Being Alive and having that emotion and memories is something you will have forever in your life. One of the best feelings you can ever experience. Thank you for taking us on that journey with you..

Aye, Same thing happens after a long passage at sea. The glorious sights you saw, the monster waves you survived, the winds from a storm, the damaged rigging leaving you adrift. Struggling a jammed line inches from death. Almost losing a friend over the side. Then the moment you step foot on the dock...... you can't wait to get out there again. When you walk pass people they have no idea what you have just survived. All those sights and sounds are rushing through your head while you sit there and listen to them jabber about bullshit. God bless our soldiers.

I'm a 64 year old Canadian but I spent my youth in the U.S living two years in Chicago, 7 in California and Colorado for 10 and have travelled across the country several times. This KZread pop-up brought back so many memories that I was just mesmerized, reliving my youth. And loving the soundtrack! I Shazaamed it as I went and will listen to every one of those albums. As well as re-watch the whole thing. And the ending was perfect! Great job.

Hey Jake , what an epic trip! Thanks for taking us along. Brought back a lot of memories ... In 1979 I finished my first year as a HS teacher and had my first summer off work. I had never ridden a motorcycle, so I asked one of my senior students with a bike to show me. After a hour on his bike on the HS track, I took my permit test. The next day I bought a new CX 500. The following day I took my license test, and the next day headed from St Cloud, Minnesota toward San Diego. Young and confident, it was an amazing trip. On the way back I ran out of money, so I could afford gas or food, but not both. I ended up riding 36 hours straight from Salt Lake City to St Cloud and then sleeping for 24 hours! Forty plus years later, it is still one of my fondest memories. Thanks for bringing it back!

My god. I had an almost identical experience from my student days; in 1980 I ran out of money for food so I road 20 hours straight non-stop (except for petrol) from Brisbane to Melbourne (1,800km) on my Trident t150. Got into Melb with $5 left and lashed out and bought a burger:-) I also slept for 24 hours straight and had a sore arse for about a week :-)

Solo riding is so overwhelming over a period of 30 days. the gusty winds, the sharp turns, piercing rain drops, the solace in riding with nothing around, the lovely gesture of people who understand the joy of riding, the random conversation with oneself and lastly hearing the bike roar. All this is something to be felt and I guess you have by far come the closest to make it feel for others. Wonderful..!!

Thank you. I did a similar trip on my Triumph Speedmaster in 2017. I went from Kentucky, north to Canada. From there I road across Canada to Banff. Next down in to Idaho then Spokane, Washington and on to Portland. From there I hugged the West Coast down Washington and Oregon. The Pacific coast in Organ is one of the most beautiful sites. Next I went into California, through Eureka and back out to the coast. I took the same trip across the Golden Gate. From there it was across the desert to Vegas and then the Grand Canyon. Finally, I went through New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and back home to Kentucky. Roughly 32 days of pure bliss. I know that feeling when you pulled back in at home. Thanks for helping me re-live my journey. I didn’t have a GoPro back then. The whole thing is a blessing.

That trip took me two weeks. About 6,000 miles. I drove my Toyota Tacoma pickup. In order to stay close to the Oregon Trail, I took back roads, including dirt roads. I stopped when I wanted. Did what I wanted. It was refreshing. Soul cleansing. Just me and my camera, most of the time. ..........Now, I've bought me a Triumph Scrambler.

That was a fantastic journey. Thank you for sharing this with the world. I wanted to do a ride from Calgary to New York until all this came down. Your series has kept me inspired to make it happen. Honestly was a bit teary when you were at the home stretch and it killed me the moment after you switched off. Ride safe and see you out there, man.

All three videos can be summed up in one word for me, "Perfect". You captured some really beautiful sights, Jake. The tracks you selected brought me in to the moment and I felt like I was right there with you, witnessing such grand beauty. An hour of my life reliving some memories of my own through your eyes. Pulling back in to your neighborhood, I felt it too. Bravo. I have shared your videos......the whole world needs to see them.

I just watched the entire series. You did an amazing job with this. The music selection was perfect. This was truly an inspiration. I love riding long distances as well, but the past few years hasn't allowed it for me. This year I had plans of some more long distance travels (nothing like this journey of yours) but it wasn't in the cards. I was diagnosed with cancer early in the year received chemo every three weeks for 6 months so I didn't get to ride. These videos were so appreciated by me. Keep up the great work. You deserve some kind of award for this work.

Lately I’ve been feeling lost, I lost my bike to a crash last July, it was my fault just young and dumb broke my pelvis luckily that’s all. She gave her life up to protect me. When I watched this video it filled a void in my heart because I always wanted to do this and everyone shut me down telling me it’d be dumb and this and that etc but they just never understood the peace I’m at when it’s just me the bike & the road I’ll be 23 this July and I can’t wait to start my journey this gave me the the extra push I needed thank you
