Here I demonstrate one cause of a carburetor that lags excessively when quick abrupt throttle is given. This Honda Shadow VT750 is equipped with an accelerator pump to help with this issue. Here is one that is bad.

Carb. cleaned using carb cleaner in sonic for one hour tested all with wire and air compressor. Fuel pump spraying great, cranks great no choke. Started idle screw at 2.5 now out to 3.5 takes quick throttle and return to smooth idle. Will not take fuel on highway without choke being out ? New jets installed in build, all parts in good shape. Love ALL of your stuff. Please keep up the Great work !!!

Love your videos! I’m trying to diagnose my 1986 Honda Shadow vt 500c. It had a fuel leak from the carburetor; I ran the tank dry, and refilled it, which stopped the leak. But now once I get above 35+ mph, the bike struggles to accelerate, it kinda jerks forward and sputters, and just won’t go faster no matter what gear. I also just changed the spark plugs. Any idea what may be the issue? Clogged carbs? Clogged fuel line? Timing issue? Thanks for any help!

I have a serious question, I have a Shadow Spirit with the same engine. It has a very slight hesitation sometimes, only right off idle. It literally runs great in all other aspects. Would you look at the pilot air fuel mixture and doing a idle drop test or would you look at a accelerator pump starting to go? Are those pumps adjustable at all? I’ve also read the air cutoff valve can cause this issue too? Have you heard of that?

I have an ATV that recently has this problems: - when I accelerate it doesn't pull as strong as it used to (not too noticeable but still) - when I go at max speed (80khm) and release throttle almost completely it only lowers down to like 50-60kmh so it seems like I'm not even holding throttle and it still goes. (I would have to release the throttle completely for it to start slowing down - which it seems like engine breaking is non functional at this point) any ideas? any tip is good!

I cleared out my clogged nozzles with a strand of copper wire (twist tie could also work) bent into a j, it seemed to work pretty well. Also had quite a time when the plug, ball and spring fell into the depths of my ultrasonic cleaner during cleaning. Luckily they were all accounted for after emptying the murky water.

@TheMotorcycleMD i have a 1984 Honda VF700. i have already cleaned the carbs. I have Bench synced, but not synced on bike. i have also checked valve clearance, set to spec 0.005 IN/EX. and new OEM plugs and set gap per spec. she runs and shifts as she should. however at 6600ish. she develops a dead spot. I can accelerate past but she studders. I can feel it, bike bucks. almost like a misfire. this is NOT gear specific. does it on flat roads but ESPECIALLY on hills. gauge redline is 11k but I believe Rev. limiter is set to 9k. Where would you start to diagnose this problem. thank you for your time. and keep the videos coming. i have learned a lot from you.

So,after viewing this video, the actual "cause" of this problem, was the cracking in the rubber of the plunger? Or was it something else? Like a clogged orifice somewhere in the pump (which I don't think it was, after You had already said the lower part of that carb. was clear) Anyway, very helpful video! Thank-You.

Cold weather effects how any carbureted bike fires up and idles. That’s why they come with choke or enrichment systems. This is talking about a constant symptom that wouldn’t work if it was cold or hot.

@@TheMotorcycleMD Hi, thanks for respond. In this version, carbureators don't have acc pump. When i bought it, exhaust system was missing that part called scavenger. Its connecting pipes together and mufflers. Now i made new pipes sort of 2 in 2 with connection betwen them to make it as close to original as possible. I have some leaks on one side of exhaust. Will eliminate it soon. Do you think it may cause dificulties in carb regulation ? Ps. Air filter is all stock and new. Thanks and best regards
