okay okay okay, I'm convinced. New R1250GS Rallye to be picked up next Saturday morning from Arden, T.Wells. I test rode one 3 years ago but went into denial. In the last 2 weeks I've re-visited the adventure bike thing and test rode most of them then realised what I knew all along. Thanks for all the vid's and helping with my decision making process 👍. Btw I tried the R1250R (after watching your review) and was very very tempted just because of the way the engine works in such a small package but as you pointed out it is a VERY VERY small package.

Just got back from a very similar trip. UK to Croatia using Calimoto on mainly the winding option. Through the Alps and the Dolomites. I did, sort of, get fed up with switchbacks as well. On the return trip I avoided the mountains as much as possible. Didn't see one other British biker all the way there ( including the Euro Tunnel ) and all the way back (apart from the Euro Tunnel, where there was one other biker on the train ). Had a great time though. Hope the keys turn up. That's a very expensive thing to do - losing those keys. Loved Slovenia

Haven't watched to the end yet, so not sure how the hunt for the keys are going. I do feel your pain though! Love keyless for my car, but came to understand already on my first ride with it that it can be a serious issue: While driving the car home, I needed to take a wee, so stopped at a gas station. Somehow I just couldn't find a way to lock the car. The key only have 3 buttons, so how hard can it be, really? Nope, no success on the most logical button. None of the others either. Rinse & repeat a few times while questioning sanity. Sanity gave up and I was left with pure desperation. In the end I gave up and let the state of my bladder take precedence, and left the car unlocked. It all went fine, and when I came back I had to go through the manual - yes, that text based paperwork that is probably autotranslated by a drunk robot in France. Turns out you cannot lock the car with the key, IF the key is inside the car. Brand new car and all the papers and the spare key was in my rucksack in front of the passenger seat. So, I while I was frantically stabbing away on the main key just outside the car's door, the spare key was on the inside and that made car decide that there should be no automagical locking going on.

At teapot probably a warp in one or both front discs nothing to do with the pads. This happens a lot with poor quality material’s you wont get this with breaking wavy disc mine got hot enough to get a purple gold blue colour without warping and they have no ware marks due to using carbon ceramic pads👍 these pads in my opinion have the best feel happy riding enjoy. Ok they don’t last as long but i like to get the bike stopped when needed.

Hi teapot you say your discs are worn uneven I think you ment pads the only way to even out the pad wear is to swap them side to side every 6 thousand miles or soo. I had to do that on my Triumph Explorer. Have had no problems on my GS which has the now no longer fitted Hayes calipers I think you need new discs unless you're pads are contaminated as you say the front brake vibrates or judders. I am coming up to 24 thousand miles with my bike ride 2 up all the time and pads about 2 thirds worn. Hope you get it sorted soon always like your vlogs.

Hi Bruce, Miss Austria so much, it’s been 3 years since our last tour, Hoping to get back there next year. Do you do all your mile eating trips on the BMW OEM seat, I see so many videos on KZread for aftermarket seats because the BMW seat is pants, would be interested to hear your views on this also might be a potential video review for you in the future, looking forward to the next video 👍

Hi, Yep it’s just a stock seat 🤷‍♂️ My bum does get sore on any seat after a good few hours on it, so I just get off and walk about for a few minutes and it’s fine again for another few hours👍

Great video Bruce, but you have confused me with your keys, is your spare a full transponder battery key or is it your grey plastic emergency key, because that one will only work when you hold it in the little round recess under the rear mudguard. Just to let you know if it's a normal spare transponder spare you should not carry both keys whilst riding it can knacker the ignition up. I do carry a full spare hidden some ware on the bike but I wrap it in multiple layers of tin foil to block it's signal. A spare one from your main agent is about £240. Thank you

Yep but then what would you do when you go to start the bike and it won’t start because the key isn’t there… and it’s 160 miles back the way you came at the last fuel stop? 😬 I’ll always have my spare with me on a trip, just in case

@@teapotone if you lost the only key more than around 8ft from the bike then it wouldn’t start so you couldn’t get 160 miles away. 😉 Does the bike have a warning when the key signal has been lost? For example, you drop the key on the ground next to the bike, so it starts, but then ride away! 🫤

It won’t cut out, it just won’t restart when you next switch it off. Yes you get a warning on the dash if it can’t detect the keys, but you get this fairly regularly as sometimes even with the keys in your jacket pocket, I get a warning as the battery degrades.

Keys? I’m guessing you’ve moved clothing and luggage to and from bike, making sure the spare key is not in reach/being used, and then painstakingly moved item up to and away from the bike to see if any item contains the key?

Yep I actually love keyless personally - I just don’t understand why some manufacturers make the ignition keyless, but you need the key to open the fuel cap? WHY?!?! 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤣 The problem comes when you start your bike at home in the garage and the key is not on you but close enough to the bike - such as on a workbench, or in the pocket of another jacket that’s hanging up close enough to the bike. You start the bike and ride off, leaving the key at home. Yes you’ll get a warning on the dash, but I get this fairly frequently with my own bike even when I know I have the key in my pocket (as the battery in the key fob degrades, the effective range will decrease). So I often just ignore this warning on the dash 🤷‍♂️

Bruce, quick question (love the video BTW and looking forward to the rest) When touring whether it be UK or Europe what do you do for security/protection of your bike overnight? Do you book specific bnb/hotels that cater for bikes to be looked up and covered? Or do you have some security gadgets etc? I want to plan some tours and want to know how someone as experienced at touring as you does it. Thanks
