This video stands out how important is the making of molds to get a tailor-made cover for a motorcycle seat. If we get a precise mold the cover should snugly fit over the foam seat with a minimum of effort.
Moreover, it is also a review of 'basic sewings and trims' we have seen on another videos. We would realize they are the same used on the most humble or luxurious seat.
The cover was thoroughly foamed with a 3 mm thick foam as a lining. An exception on top where I used a 1 cm foam for the raised channels. No sewing was used for it. To form the channels the lines on leather were 'heat pressed' onto a thick muslin fabric. To do the strong attachment I used a 'polyurethane gtransparent glue' which is mostly used by shoemakers on shoes and sports tennis manufacture.
The two 'piping trims' were done following the technique shown on former video (non-pip inside).
It also should be noted the use of a 'leather skiving machine' to ease the procedure on leather upholstery.
I hope you enjoy the video and find it useful!
Cesar

WoW - what a wonderful craftsmanship!
That Kawasaki green and black is a personal favorite. You do such a nice job of fitting your seat covers, you never seem to need to reach for the heat gun. 😁
That is not a seat, it is art and needs to be hung in a museum.

Hello John, Thanks so much for kind comment! I have tried to emulate those old cars whose seats had 'heat pressed channels'. Furthermore, I used to do it on motorcycles seats, at the beginning of the eighties. I had a bigger machine at that time and all the seat pleats came out at one go. Above all, it is just an application of basic sewings we can find in a humble and the most luxurious car. I think it depends on how to put them together. Merry Christmas!

Hi John, Thanks for kind reply. Moreover, I would be glad to join the Lucky Needle Upholstery Forum. One more of your great efforts to create this forum for the sake of enthusiasts and passionate people in the upholstery trade. I have been checking interesting topics off and on, but not lately. I would be glad to participate and share some ideas. As we all know, we never stop learning from each other and should update ourselves everyday. BTW I just saw a related thread of this december 2018 to heat pleating. Such a coincidence! It would be interesting to contribute with some useful information.

Looks absolutely amazing and i'm probably going to implement some of these design choices on my bike, how ever why green folds do not seem to have any foam in them and further more this design has serious flaw where when it rains these folds collect the water and it will seep to foam from the seams. It would be best to treat the seams with some leather grease or oil to prevent water getting in.

OEM seats have a plastic liner over the foam. That would be the best soultion.
