I started oiling my boots years ago. It basically makes them waterproof baring standing in a puddle for to long that is. The one negative I noticed is that if you get to crazy with the oil it will soak all the way through and get into your socks which will end up in your laundry and maybe have your wife asking why her socks now smell like Mobil 1 😀.

People are balking at the motor oil thing, but guess what? It actually works fairly well. A few years back I accidentally spilled an entire 5 gallon pail of Chevron THF-1000 hydraulic oil while refilling the tank on a tractor. The container hit the ground and broke, the lid flew off, and I basically coated myself in the stuff from the knee down. Jeans, socks, and a brand new pair of Justin roper boots. Thought I had ruined them, but once I wiped off the excess they took on a neat sheen and actually became about 90% waterproof, despite not being a waterproof boot. Now, is hydraulic oil, motor oil, etc an ideal boot care solution? Of course not...but if you work around heavy equipment, fuel, grease and oil all day anyway, a coat of oil isn't going to hurt anything, and adds some water repellency while blending out other stains.

I use to work at a scrap yard smashing cars and cutting up stuff , I learned if u mix oil, antifreeze, diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid and then dip your boots in that mixture for about 5 to 10 minutes and then let them dry for an hour in direct sun light they will become 100% waterproof , did that with my matterhorn steel toe metatarsal boots

@@nicholashosslogan3444 that's actually really cool. I work around all of those fluids every day, but rarely at the same time. I just got a new pair of Ariat Workhog XT's that I'm still breaking in, but they are already supposed to be waterproof. I guess we'll see...if they aren't, I might need to whip up a batch of that mixture and give it a go.

As a kid, I remember shoe shine stands in all the hotels, on the streets in the business and shopping districts and they always had customers. But that was 50 years ago and now people wear synthetic shoes, very little leather and they just throw them away when they need new heels and soles. I would like to see the data comparing shoe polish sales today compared to 1960.

They look great. Don't try this if you are going to spend the whole day outside in the sun, those boots will get extremely hot.

I have never used motor oil on my boots on purpose, but it winds up on them from working on cars and working in a factory. I never had any problems with my boots from it.

What brand boots do you like the best?? What would you recommend for mud and water? And also if you get the wet and muddy daily

Well that’s something I have not heard of before...I thought maybe he has boot oil in that can of motor oil? No? All righty then. I guess these boots are now protected against viscosity breakdown!

Hey, I really like your videos, do you work with leather jackets? I have a red skin LJ and would like to know how to maintain it so I could do it myself.
