It is about life and its' continuation.. Real was chosen by the mycelium because she never wanted power and so was best suited to getting it.

Beautiful song and if you pay attention you can see one of her sisters still alive….

This shows how the writers of the final series did not watch went before. Either the mycelium "we" began when this shows or it existested many thousands of years ago. It is one or the other. Retconning does not work in such a short lived series.

But I thought the mother gave the witches their power centuries ago. How can Alder create the mother years later?
